TRANSCRIPT GUIDE
ACCREDITATION – Elizabethtown College is accredited by the
Middle States Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools as a
private, liberal arts, degree granting institution at the associate,
baccalaureate, and master levels. In addition, many curricula are
accredited by their respective associations.
TRANSCRIPTS – Official transcripts issued to a student will be
stamped “Issued to Student.” Official transcripts of records prior to
Fall 1992 and all Bachelor of Professional Studies programs will be
issued on white paper with black type with the Registrar’s signature in
red and the seal of the College. Transcripts of records dated from Fall
1992 to present will be printed on Scrip-Safe security paper with blue
ink. All unofficial transcripts will be marked “Unofficial Copy”.
SEMESTER HOUR CREDIT – Credit is indicated in terms of the
semester hour. A semester credit hour represents a unit of curricular
material that normally can be taught in a minimum of 14 hours of
classroom instruction plus appropriate outside preparation or the
equivalent as determined by the faculty.
GRADE POINT AVERAGE CALCULATION – The grade point
average is dependent upon the credits attempted and the quality points
earned. To determine the quality points earned for a semester multiply
the credits for each course by the quality points for the grade earned in
the course, sum the results and divide by the total credits attempted in
the semester. Grades of F or WF are included in the calculation.
Grades of W, WIP, I, P, NP, #FG, grades marked with an * or Audit
are excluded.
COURSE NUMBER SYSTEM – Courses numbered below 100 are
remedial and do not count toward graduation requirements; freshmen
level courses are 100-199; sophomore level courses are 200-299;
junior and senior level courses are 300-499; graduate level courses are
500-799.
ACADEMIC STANDARDS – Students in academic good standing
maintain a minimum 2.0 cumulative grade point average and are
eligible to re-enroll. Students with a cumulative GPA of less than 2.0
are in unsatisfactory academic standing and may be subject to
academic probation or dismissal and must petition the Academic
Standing Committee for readmission.
REPEATED COURSES DESIGNATION –
* - Course retaken; not included in GPA or hours earned
R - Course repeated; included in GPA and hours earned
GRADING SYSTEM – Effective Fall 1987

HONORS PROGRAM – Honors courses offered prior to Fall 2002
are noted with the letter “H” prior to the subject code. Honors courses
offered from Fall 2002 to present are noted by course title. Honors
courses provide students with much greater freedom for class
participation than in traditionally taught courses.
EMERGENT SCHOLARS – A full-time student who having
completed at least 42 credits in three consecutive semesters at the
College, has achieved a cumulative GPA of 3.75 or higher.
GRADUATION HONORS – At the time of graduation, an
undergraduate student who has achieved a cumulative quality point-
credit ratio of 3.60 is graduated cum laude, a ratio of 3.75, magna cum
laude, and a ratio of 3.90, summa cum laude.
STATUTE OF LIMITATIONS OF F GRADES – A student who is
readmitted to the College after an absence of five successive years
may, upon fulfilling certain requirements, have previous grades of F
removed from the cumulative GPA and replaced with an #FG grade.

In addition, many curricula are accredited by their respective associations. TRANSCRIPTS – Official transcripts issued to a student will be stamped “Issued to Student.” Official transcripts of records prior to Fall 1992 and all Bachelor of Professional Studies programs will be issued on white paper with black type with the Registrar’s signature in red and the seal of the College. Transcripts of records dated from Fall 1992 to present will be printed on Scrip-Safe security paper with blue ink. All unofficial transcripts will be marked “Unofficial Copy”. SEMESTER HOUR CREDIT – Credit is indicated in terms of the semester hour. A semester credit hour represents a unit of curricular material that normally can be taught in a minimum of 14 hours of classroom instruction plus appropriate outside preparation or the equivalent as determined by the faculty. GRADE POINT AVERAGE CALCULATION – The grade point average is dependent upon the credits attempted and the quality points earned. To determine the quality points earned for a semester multiply the credits for each course by the quality points for the grade earned in the course, sum the results and divide by the total credits attempted in the semester. Grades of F or WF are included in the calculation. Grades of W, WIP, I, P, NP, #FG, grades marked with an * or Audit are excluded. COURSE NUMBER SYSTEM – Courses numbered below 100 are remedial and do not count toward graduation requirements; freshmen level courses are 100-199; sophomore level courses are 200-299; junior and senior level courses are 300-499; graduate level courses are 500-799. ACADEMIC STANDARDS – Students in academic good standing maintain a minimum 2.0 cumulative grade point average and are eligible to re-enroll. Students with a cumulative GPA of less than 2.0 are in unsatisfactory academic standing and may be subject to academic probation or dismissal and must petition the Academic Standing Committee for readmission. REPEATED COURSES DESIGNATION – * - Course retaken; not included in GPA or hours earned R - Course repeated; included in GPA and hours earned GRADING SYSTEM – Effective Fall 1987 Grade A Distinguished 4.0 A- 3.7 B+ 3.3 B Above Average 3.0 B- 2.7 C+ 2.3 C Average 2.0 C- 1.7 D+ 1.3 D Poor 1.0 D- 0.7 F, W/F Failure 0.0 W Withdrawal/Passing I Incomplete P Pass NP Non-Pass (Failure) AUD Audit WIP Work In Progress #FG Forgiven Grade FORMER GRADING SYSTEM Grade A Distinguished 4.0 B Above Average 3.0 C Average 2.0 D Poor 1.0 F, W/F Failure 0.0 I Incomplete P Pass NP Non-Pass (Failure) AUD Audit HONORS PROGRAM – Honors courses offered prior to Fall 2002 are noted with the letter “H” prior to the subject code. EMERGENT SCHOLARS – A full-time student who having completed at least 42 credits in three consecutive semesters at the College, has achieved a cumulative GPA of 3.75 or higher. GRADUATION HONORS – At the time of graduation, an undergraduate student who has achieved a cumulative quality point- credit ratio of 3.60 is graduated cum laude, a ratio of 3.75, magna cum laude, and a ratio of 3.90, summa cum laude. STATUTE OF LIMITATIONS OF F GRADES – A student who is readmitted to the College after an absence of five successive years may, upon fulfilling certain requirements, have previous grades of F removed from the cumulative GPA and replaced with an #FG grade.
