ACCREDITATION: Southeastern Louisiana University is accredited by the Commission on Colleges
of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to award the Associate, Baccalaureate, Master's
and Specialist degree levels. In addition, many of the colleges and academic departments are fully
accredited by their individual accrediting agencies. Refer to the University Catalogue for further
details.
CALENDAR: Unless otherwise noted, all course work completed at the University is under the
semester system, thus, the unit of credit is the semester hour.
GRADING SYSTEM: Effective Fall Semester 1961 Southeastern Louisiana University is on a 4 point
grading system. Prior to Fall 1961, the University had a 3 point system. The following grade notations
are used in calculating the Grade Point Average (GPA - the quotient of total quality points divided by
total hours attempted).
Grade Quality Points per hour of credit
A - Excellent 4.0
B - Good 3.0
C - Average 2.0
D - Lowest Passing Grade 1.0
F - Failure 0.0
P - Passing 0.0 Not used in computation of GPA

CUMULATIVE GRADE POINT AVERAGE: The cumulative grade point average is computed on
all hours attempted.
ADJUSTED GRADE POINT AVERAGE: Effective Fall 1994 through Spring 2004, the adjusted
grade point average is computed on all hours attempted, less a maximum of 15 hours of D's or F's that
were repeated in the Fall 1994 semester or later.
GPA FOR DEGREE(S) AWARDED:
The GPA listed for Degree(s) Awarded may be the Cumulative GPA, the Adjusted GPA, or the Degree
GPA. The Degree GPA is applicable only to undergraduate degrees and is calculated using the last
grade earned for courses within a curriculum. The GPA used for the degree is determined by the
academic department at the time of graduation checkout.
CLASSIFICATION:
Freshman: 0-29 hours earned Sophomore: 30-59 hours earned
Junior: 60-89 hours earned Senior: 90 or more hours earned
Graduate: earned Bachelor’s degree
COURSE NUMBERING SYSTEM:
001-099* Undergraduate - Transitional Courses
100* Transitional prior to Summer 1979; Freshman level Summer 1979 and later
101-199* Undergraduate - Freshman Level
200-299* Undergraduate - Sophomore Level
300-499* Undergraduate - Junior and Senior Level
500* and above Graduate Level
*An "X" after the course number indicates that the course was taken off-campus.
*A "G" after the course numbered below 500 indicates that the student received graduate credit for the
course.
*An "R" after the course indicates that the course was repeated under the Fall 1994 repeat policy.
*An “M” after the course indicates miscellaneous credit.
HONORS COURSES: Honors courses are designated by the letter
"H" after the course number, or by the prefix HONR at the course
name. Honors courses may be specially designed for students in the
honors program; interdisciplinary courses that explore subjects in
diverse contexts; or regular courses with an option to complete
special research projects in order to earn Honors credit. Students
taking Honors courses must obtain authorization from the Director of
the Honors Program and/or the academic department.
REPEATED COURSES: Southeastern Louisiana University allows
students to repeat courses. The last grade earned stands as the official
grade, however, effective Summer Semester 1981 all grades for the
course will appear on a student's transcript and all hours attempted
and total quality points will be used in calculating the cumulative
grade point average. Prior to the Summer 1981 semester, when a
course was repeated, only the last grade earned was used in
calculating the cumulative grade point average.
TRANSFER WORK: Transfer courses are evaluated and all
acceptable transfer hours and quality points are used in calculation of
the grade point averages. Repeated transfer courses are treated the
same as courses taken at Southeastern Louisiana University.
ACADEMIC PROBATION/SUSPENSION: The cumulative grade
point average was used to determine academic probation/suspension
prior to Fall 1994 and then reinstated in Fall 2000. From Fall 1994
to Summer 2000, the adjusted grade point average was used. When
the student’s cumulative grade point average is 10 or more quality
points below a 2.0, the student is placed on academic probation. The
student remains on probation as long as the semester grade point
average is at least 2.0 and until the cumulative grade point average is
raised to 2.0. While on probation, if the semester grade point
average drops below 2.0, the student is suspended. The first
suspension is for one semester, the second and succeeding
suspensions are for one full year. Students under suspension may
attend the summer session to raise the cumulative grade point
average. If the cumulative grade point average is not raised to 2.0,
the suspension remains in effect.
CONTINUING ENROLLMENT POLICY: A notation pertaining
to the student's standing and "eligibility to return" to Southeastern
appears at the end of the record.
ACADEMIC RENEWAL: A student who has not been enrolled in a
college or university for five consecutive calendar years may petition
for academic renewal (the disclaiming of all coursework attempted at
all colleges or universities prior to the five year period). Prior
Southeastern work will appear on the academic record but will not be
used in computing the grade point average. The academic renewal
decision is final and irreversible.
TRANSCRIPT VALIDATION: An official transcript is printed on
secure paper, does not require a raised seal, and is valid only when it
bears the signature of the appropriate university official. Copies
issued to students will have "Issued to Student" printed on the
transcript. NOTE: Official transcripts of records dated before Spring
1993 may be Black and White. Any transcript that is not on secure
paper is valid only when it contains the raised seal of Southeastern
Louisiana University and the signature of the appropriate university
official.

CLASSIFICATION: Freshman: 0-29 hours earned Sophomore: 30-59 hours earned Junior: 60-89 hours earned Senior: 90 or more hours earned Graduate: earned Bachelor’s degree COURSE NUMBERING SYSTEM: 001-099* Undergraduate - Transitional Courses 100* Transitional prior to Summer 1979; Freshman level Summer 1979 and later 101-199* Undergraduate - Freshman Level 200-299* Undergraduate - Sophomore Level 300-499* Undergraduate - Junior and Senior Level 500* and above Graduate Level *An "X" after the course number indicates that the course was taken off-campus. *A "G" after the course numbered below 500 indicates that the student received graduate credit for the course. *An "R" after the course indicates that the course was repeated under the Fall 1994 repeat policy. *An “M” after the course indicates miscellaneous credit. HONORS COURSES: Honors courses are designated by the letter "H" after the course number, or by the prefix HONR at the course name. Honors courses may be specially designed for students in the honors program; interdisciplinary courses that explore subjects in diverse contexts; or regular courses with an option to complete special research projects in order to earn Honors credit. Students taking Honors courses must obtain authorization from the Director of the Honors Program and/or the academic department. REPEATED COURSES: Southeastern Louisiana University allows students to repeat courses. The last grade earned stands as the official grade, however, effective Summer Semester 1981 all grades for the course will appear on a student's transcript and all hours attempted and total quality points will be used in calculating the cumulative grade point average. Prior to the Summer 1981 semester, when a course was repeated, only the last grade earned was used in calculating the cumulative grade point average. TRANSFER WORK: Transfer courses are evaluated and all acceptable transfer hours and quality points are used in calculation of the grade point averages. Repeated transfer courses are treated the same as courses taken at Southeastern Louisiana University. ACADEMIC PROBATION/SUSPENSION: The cumulative grade point average was used to determine academic probation/suspension prior to Fall 1994 and then reinstated in Fall 2000. From Fall 1994 to Summer 2000, the adjusted grade point average was used. When the student’s cumulative grade point average is 10 or more quality points below a 2.0, the student is placed on academic probation. The student remains on probation as long as the semester grade point average is at least 2.0 and until the cumulative grade point average is raised to 2.0. While on probation, if the semester grade point average drops below 2.0, the student is suspended. The first suspension is for one semester, the second and succeeding suspensions are for one full year. Students under suspension may attend the summer session to raise the cumulative grade point average. If the cumulative grade point average is not raised to 2.0, the suspension remains in effect. CONTINUING ENROLLMENT POLICY: A notation pertaining to the student's standing and "eligibility to return" to Southeastern appears at the end of the record. ACADEMIC RENEWAL: A student who has not been enrolled in a college or university for five consecutive calendar years may petition for academic renewal (the disclaiming of all coursework attempted at all colleges or universities prior to the five year period). Prior Southeastern work will appear on the academic record but will not be used in computing the grade point average. The academic renewal decision is final and irreversible. TRANSCRIPT VALIDATION: An official transcript is printed on secure paper, does not require a raised seal, and is valid only when it bears the signature of the appropriate university official. Copies issued to students will have "Issued to Student" printed on the transcript. NOTE: Official transcripts of records dated before Spring 1993 may be Black and White. Any transcript that is not on secure paper is valid only when it contains the raised seal of Southeastern Louisiana University and the signature of the appropriate university official.
