Directions: Scan the grid of letters below carefully and attentively. Identify the words that
are connected to today’s lesson. Encircle the word that you will find. The words may appear
horizontally, vertically, or diagonally.
Objectives
What is fiction?
• Fiction is defined as prose based on the author’s imagination. It
means, such stories never happened in real life. Types of literature in
the fiction genre include the novel, short story, and novella. The word
is from the Latin fictiō, “the act of making, fashioning, or molding.

Elements of Fiction
1. Characters – are the people, animals, or aliens in the story. Readers
come to know the characters through what they say, what they
think, and how they act.
There are 6 types of Characters:
Flat Character Protagonists
Static Character Antagonists
Round characters Confidante

2. Plot- a series of events and actions that occur in a story
a. Exposition
b. Rising action
c. Climax
d. Falling action
e. Resolution

3. Conflict- opposition of forces or characters
a. Man vs. man
b. Human vs. society
c. Human vs. nature
d. Human vs. self
Flashback- shows the past events which causes the story to happen
Foreshadowing- shows hints about the future
Resolution – ending of the story– I think sa plot ini pero labadi ang

4. Settings- refers when (time) and where (place) the story happened.

5. Theme – it is the center or the main idea of the story
Characteristics of a theme:
1. It the main idea.
2. Expressed in the form of statement, not word.
3. It is a view of life.
4. No theme is identical with moral or lesson.
5. A revelation of a human character
6. Does not rely on facts that are not stated in the story
7. Not a familiar saying
