The government of India plans to phase out all government vehicles and replace them with electric vehicles over the next decade. It will establish hundreds of charging stations and require all new vehicles sold in India to be electric by 2030. Major automakers like Renault, Mahindra, Maruti, Tata, Toyota, and Hyundai are developing electric car models for the Indian market to transition the country to more sustainable transportation. Experts say India needs a vehicle scrappage policy to remove older, more polluting cars currently on the roads to help increase demand for electric vehicles and reduce oil imports.
