My client is seeking a Safety, Occupational Health and Environmental Leader.
The SHE (Safety, Occupational Health and Environmental) Leader has total SHE
responsibilities for the facility and provides leadership to insure site compliance with
governmental regulatory requirements and company Corporate Standards as related to the
Safety, Occupational Health, and Environmental arena. The SHE Leader works under
administrative direction of the Plant Manager and a direct report to a regional SHE Leader.
The role and the responsible organization manages, monitors, audits, leads and provides
consulting for all aspects of SHE services for the site. Services include: safety, industrial hygiene,
occupational health, process safety, environmental, fire protection, emergency planning and
response, distribution, ergonomics and security. The position leads development of strategy to
meet corporate governance and regulatory needs and to develop key systems working across
businesses and entities at the site.
Typical duties but not limited to the following:
Manager, develop, implement, and administer plant safety and industrial hygiene programs
within the operations manufacturing organizationto meet Corporate and Site General Safety
and Occupational Health PSG's (Policies, Standards, and guidelines);
Insure compliance with OSHA requirements and state and local regulatory requirements.
Develop, implement, and administer plant regulatory programs in accordance with corporate
guidelines. Insure compliance with EPA, state, and local requirements relative to air permits,
hazard communication, hazardous waste management and sewer discharge.
Lead Site Process Safety Management related activities, audits and reviews, and implementation
of related improvements.
Manage and lead incident investigations, reporting, record-keeping, and metrics according to
corporate guidelines
Facilitate the creation and implementation of employee safety training programs
Serve as the plant resource regarding best work practices
Provide administrative oversight to other members of the site SHE teams
Manage the SHE organization budget
Oversight of the site CAR management system
May have global or regional responsibilities to include:
Site contact and coordinator for 2nd and 3rd party SHE & PSM related audits
SHE related Networks
Develop, update and coordinate implementation of written Safety and Occupational Health
programs for the site;
Coordinate the development and dissemination of employee safety and health performance
metrics and communications;
Provide technical oversight and set strategies for IH sampling and analytical methods;
Conduct statistical analyses, review and interpret data, and communicate results;
Provide technical oversight for Safety & Occupational Health record storage and retention;
Provide safety and IH direction to manufacturing, lab, and R&D groups;
Investigate chemical exposures and recommend upgrades;
Conduct noise monitoring (surveys and/or dosimetry) and IH oversight on Hearing
Conservation Program and selection of hearing protection;
Represent site as Central Safety, IAQ Team, Site Safety Activities and Ergonomics team
resource;
Provide continuous improvement to system to select, procure, and maintain PPE;
Work with Medical to determine the appropriate medical surveillance for site employees and
provide support to Safety and Illness Investigations / Classification;
Provide expertise in regard to IH existing and proposed standards, laws and Corporate
guidelines and technical advances/findings, developing compliance and technology updates as
applicable;
Provide S&OH audit support and leadership for the business unit.
MUST HAVES:
* Bachelor’s degree in Safety or Health, or related technical field;
* Five (5) to ten (10) years of progressively more responsible work experience in safety related
management or line leadership with safety emphasis;
* Preferred, Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) certification or CIH eligibility or Certified
Safety professional (CSP) certification / CSP eligibility;
* Line management experience in high hazard process manufacturing environments;
Knowledge of:
* Safety, Occupational Hygiene, Contractor Safety, Occupational Health, Process Safety
Management, Fire Protection, Environmental, Distribution, Ergonomics, Driving Safety,
Training; Federal, state and local SHE regulations and agencies.
Skill in:
Industrial background with knowledge of operations and maintenance of plant equipment;
Maintaining awareness of the importance of the belief “that all injuries can be prevented.”
