2. 1. Introduction
FAO (2016) : cost of production for 1 tone of
grain maize: USD 138 in Brazil, 142 in the
USA, 225 in Thailand, 275 in the Philippines,
282 in Indonesia but USD 329 in Vietnam.
The cost production components in maize
production in Mekong delta of VN (Ho Cao
Viet et al, 2014), in average cost of fertilizers:
30.0 - 35.5 %; labor cost: 38.2%;
mechanization: 5.0 to 8.7 %;
3. 1. Introduction (Cont)
To increase efficiency of fertilizer, lower cost of
production,
study of slow/controlled-release fertilizers (SCRF),
combined with nano endophyte and micro
nutrient Bioplant Flora (Ukraine), and
Amistartop325SC (Syngenta) were conducted
to investigate their effects on agronomy and yield
of MN585 maize hybrid in the Mekong delta of
Vietnam during 2016-2018.

16. 4. Discussion
Thanks to using SCRF only one time during
planting maize enough nutrients for the
whole crop, it saved labor cost and higher
economic efficiency compared to conventional
fertilizer doses with 3 or 4 times of
application .
17. 5. Conclusion and suggestion
Using SCRF was more efficient and labor saving
than conventional fertilizer application. It is
suggested that larger scale of demonstration
of using slow/controlled-release fertilizers or
nano endophyte should be conducted in
different soil types.
