In today's live there is more number of wastes are produced and they are not properly disposed due to improper disposal many pollution were made and the all living organisms were affected.

COURSE TITLE : MUNICIPAL SOLID WASTE
MANAGEMENT
2. INTRODUCTION
• Improper handling of solid wastes leads to potential risk to the environment and public
health. Direct health problems will mainly causes to workers, due to contact with wastes.
• The main risk to public is arises to public from breeding of vectors, primarily flies & rats.
It also affects aesthetic & beauty of the cities.
• Uncontrollable hazardous wastes from industries mixing up with the municipal wastes
cause heavy metal mixing and create potential health ricks to the human beings.
3. WASTE
It is defined as any unwanted or useless material such as rubbish ,trash, refuse, garbage,
junk.
TYPES OF WASTES
• Solid waste.
• Liquid waste.
• Gaseous waste.
• Chemical waste.
• Biodegradable waste.
• Bio-chemical waste.
4. SOLID WASTE
• It is defined as the non-soluble materials ranging from municipal garbage to
industrial waste that contain complex & some hazardous substances.
TYPES OF SOLID WASTE
• Household wastes.
• Industrial wastes.
• Bio-medical wastes.
• Infectious wastes.
• E- waste.
5. WASTE GENERATION
Year Per Capita Waste Generation (g/day) Total urban municipal
waste generated (Mt/year)

7. REASONS FOR IMPROPER DISPOSAL OF WASTE
• Increase population.
• Rising of urbanization.
• Change in life style.
• Food habits.
• Industrialization.
8. DAMPING OF WASTES
• Nowadays wastes are damping in the
improper manner.
• The most of the recyclable wastes are
not recycled. They are damped
outside the cities.
• Those wastes were burned and it
causes pollutions & produces odour.

10. PUBLIC HEALTH EFFECT
• The volume of waste is increasing rapidly as a result of increasing of population and improving economic conditions.
• The increased volume of wastes is posing serious problems due to insufficient workforce and other constraints in disposing of it properly.
• Burning of some solid wastes produces noxious fumes.
• Contamination of ground water.
Consequences of improper management :-
• Disease vectors & pathways.
• Flies.
• Mosquitoes.
• Roaches.
• Rodents
11. OCCUPATIONAL HAZARDS
• Workers handling wastes are at risk of accidents related to the nature of material and a
need of lack of safety precautions.
• The sharp edges of glass and metal and poorly constructed storage containers may inflict
injuries to workers. So, there is a need to were gloves, masks, and be vaccinated.
• The infections may spread through handling of wastes.
• Accidents may occur during handling of wastes.
• Apart from these some animals were also act as a carriers of disease.
12. ENVIRONMENTAL EFFECT
• Air pollution.
• Water & land pollution.
• Visual pollution.
• Noise pollution.
• Odour pollution.
• Explosion of hazards.
14. We can build a house with waste plastic bottles.
15. RECYCLE
• Use shopping bags made of cloth or jute.
• We can recycle things made up of glass, metals, plastic etc.,
• We need reduce the usage of plastic.
• We can conversion of solid organic wastes in to useful liquid fuels by pyrolysis.
16.
17. CONCLUSION
• Damping of wastes in an improper manner will leads the human being to face the world
with the harmful diseases. It may affect all the living thing in the world.
• The food chain will be affected, water, air& land will be polluted and at last the we don’t
have clean air to breathe , clean land to live, clean water to drink & food to eat.
• So, please avoid plastic and dispose the solids in proper manner and give the earth as good
place to survive to next generation.
