2. Obesity is defined as an abnormal amount and distribution of body fat leading to a body
mass index (BMI) of at least 30 kg/m2. It has become a worldwide epidemic at present
due to a wide range of factors including a diet of calorie-dense foods, lack of physical
exercises, overall sedentary lifestyle and a genetic predisposition.
