Evaluation Wikipedian-in-Residence National Library & Archives of the Netherl...
The first Wikipedian-in-Residence (WiR) of the Netherlands (Hay Kranen) started working for National Library (KB) & National Archives (NA) on Oct 7th 2013. Early Oct 2014 his residency ended after almost a year.
In Part 1 of this (Dutch language) document we evaluate the (effect of the) WiR project from the perspectives of KB, NA, Wikimedia Netherlands (WMNL) and the WiR himself. We discuss what has been achieved and if this met the expectations of the project as defined in the beginning of the project. From this evaluation the project team makes a number of recommendations for future collaboration of KB and NA with Wikimedia/pedia.
In April 2014, management of KB, NA and WMNL verbally agreed to continue and strengthen their wiki-collaboration after the WiR project would end. Based on this intention and the recommendation from Part1, in Part 2 we discuss the interests and priorities of the parties involved in future collaboration.
Finally, in Part 3 we discuss how these interests and priorities will be fulfilled by activities and projects of KB, NA and WMNL in 2015

De Koninklijke Bibliotheek en het Nationaal Archief zijn de eerste Nederlandse erfgoedinstellingen die een Wikipedian-in-Residence in huis hebben gehaald. Het afgelopen jaar heeft deze huiswikipediaan een brug gebouwd tussen de rijke collecties van de KB en het NA en het hergebruik van deze content op Wikipedia. Na een korte inleiding op de wereld achter Wikipedia laten Tim en Olaf zien hoe het project de kennis, vaardigheden en bewustwording over ‘Wiki en erfgoed’ binnen en buiten de instellingsmuren heeft vergroot en hoe de content van beide instellingen wereldwijd breder toegankelijk en herbruikbaar is gemaakt. With the progress of era, the development of the society, the establishment of market economy, internal quality and external quality is good or bad, will directly related to people's development and success in society, strengthen the civilized behavior nurturance education is not only we need to carry forward the traditional virtues, the physical and mental development of students.
Schools in the community culture are also an important factor of the school culture. Community influence school education culture in two ways: one is the community environment affect the students. Hope Scholars Program Description
The Hope Scholars Program provides educational support to underprivileged youth in Cape Town townships to help break the cycle of poverty through their communities. - 3. National and International Economy With the economy declining, less money is being spent on education As of January 2009, 164 school districts in the US have gone on strike
- 4. Predicted U.S. Debt 2014: 106.7% of the GDP To save money, the government will begin budgeting for smaller amounts and cutting programs Less money for Department of Education to distribute to schools Less money for school districts to hire or keep teachers less teaching positions available
- 5. Predictions: As school funding decreases, services decrease (ie student transportation, arts programs) more and more parents will withdraw their children from public schools leading to a growth of home-school and private school programs Less children will be attending brick-and-mortar public schools
- 6. Stagnant schools, changing world Schools are established to produce university professors The hierarchy of education is identical throughout the world Emphasis is placed on mathematics and language Followed by humanities, with arts at the bottom
- 7. Stagnant Schools, Changing World “We don’t grow into creativity we grow out of it. Or rather we get educated out of it” – Ken Robinson The world is becoming much more interconnected and multimedia oriented (this project is an example) Music, art etc are “not on the test” and are, if not discouraged then not promoted enough
