INTERNATIONAL UNDERSTANDING?
Education for international understanding (EIU) is an approach to
education that aims to promote peace and cooperation in a globalized

It does this by teaching students about different cultures and perspectives,
and by helping them to develop the skills and knowledge they need to
interact with people from other cultures in a respectful and productive way.

necessary to be active and engaged citizens in a globalized world.
• The curriculum should be based on the principles of international understanding, including:
Respect for all cultures and religions.
Tolerance of differences.
A commitment to peace and cooperation.
The curriculum should also be relevant to students' lives and experiences.
It should provide opportunities for students to learn about and celebrate the diversity of the world.

• This can be done through:
Studying the history and culture of different countries.
Participating in activities that promote understanding and respect for diversity.

learn about and understand other cultures, and to become active
global citizens.
EXAMPLES OF EDUCATION FOR INTERNATIONAL

One example of education for international understanding is the study of foreign
languages. Learning a foreign language helps students to understand the culture and
history of the people who speak that language.
Another example of education for international understanding is the study of world
cultures. This can be done through courses in anthropology, sociology, or history.
Education for international understanding can also be promoted through extracurricular
activities, such as student exchanges and international clubs. These activities give
students the opportunity to interact with people from other cultures in a personal way.
THE ROLE OF TEACHERS IN PROMOTING EDUCATION
FOR INTERNATIONAL UNDERSTANDING
• Teachers play a vital role in promoting education for international
understanding. They can do this by:
Integrating EIU into their curriculum.
Using EIU-related resources in their teaching.
Engaging students in EIU-related activities.
Modeling EIU in their own behaviour.
THE ROLE OF PARENTS AND COMMUNITY MEMBERS IN
PROMOTING EDUCATION FOR INTERNATIONAL
UNDERSTANDING
• Parents and community members can also play a role in promoting
education for international understanding. They can do this by:
Talking to their children about the importance of understanding other
cultures.
Supporting EIU programs and initiatives.
Volunteering their time to EIU-related organizations.
THE IMPORTANCE OF EDUCATION FOR INTERNATIONAL
UNDERSTANDING IN A GLOBALIZED WORLD
• Education for international understanding is more important than ever in a
globalized world. In a world where people from different cultures are
increasingly interacting with each other, it is essential that we have the skills and
knowledge to understand and respect each other.
• Education for international understanding can help us to build a more peaceful
and just world. It can help us to reduce prejudice and discrimination, promote
tolerance and understanding, and build bridges between cultures.
CALL TO ACTION
We all have a role to play in promoting education for
international understanding. We can support EIU
programs, donate to organizations that promote EIU, and
talk to our friends and family about the importance of
understanding other cultures. Together, we can build a
more peaceful and just world.
CONCLUSION
Education for international understanding is an important part of preparing students for the
challenges of a globalized world. It can help them to develop the skills and knowledge they
need to interact with people from other cultures in a respectful and productive way. Education
for international understanding is also important for building a more peaceful and just world. It
can help us to reduce prejudice and discrimination, promote tolerance and understanding, and
build bridges between cultures.
We all have a role to play in promoting education for international understanding. We can
support EIU programs, donate to organizations that promote EIU, and talk to our friends and
family about the importance of understanding other cultures. Together, we can build a more
peaceful and just world.
