2. Create and Publish an online art gallery with examples and commentary that demonstrate and understanding of different historical periods, cultures, and countries. (1,2) The students could hold a bake sale to fund a summer trip to The Democratic Republic of Congo. Once there they could help in construction projects, helping AIDS patients, working in a school… All the while they would be maintaining blogs, vlogs, and video footage of their experiences and understanding.   Or, they could just cut and past some pictures from online and write in some descriptive caption.
3. Select digital tools or resources to use for a real-world task and justify the selection based on their efficiency and effectiveness. (3,6) Students could use email, online videos and DVD’s to lobby their elected officials to make their college education more affordable. If they are in their 50’s and still paying off school loans then it was not effective.
5. Identify a complex global issue, develop a systematic plan of investigation, and present innovative sustainable solutions. (1,2,3,4,) The issue would be something large such as global hunger. Some of the possible contributing factors such as government subsidies, The World Bank, population, IMF, poverty, corruption, social program etc. could be divided up amongst the students and using email, blogs, Google Docs, Wiki’s, etc. they could collaborate on solutions in a final report.
8. Model legal and ethical behaviors when using information and technology by properly selecting, acquiring, and citing resources. (3,5) James Frey To show students how not to write, research, and present information they could be assigned to research examples of bias, lies, and other unethical behaviors vying for their attention in TV, radio, internet, film and novels. They would catalogue the varying offences depending on the degree and type of examples.  Michael Moore Ann Coulter

  • 1. (National Educational Technology Standards) For Students Grade Level 9-12 NETS A Small Perusal of Student Performance Indicators By Justin Hoskins
  • 2. 2. Create and Publish an online art gallery with examples and commentary that demonstrate and understanding of different historical periods, cultures, and countries. (1,2) The students could hold a bake sale to fund a summer trip to The Democratic Republic of Congo. Once there they could help in construction projects, helping AIDS patients, working in a school… All the while they would be maintaining blogs, vlogs, and video footage of their experiences and understanding. Or, they could just cut and past some pictures from online and write in some descriptive caption.
  • 3. 3. Select digital tools or resources to use for a real-world task and justify the selection based on their efficiency and effectiveness. (3,6) Students could use email, online videos and DVD’s to lobby their elected officials to make their college education more affordable. If they are in their 50’s and still paying off school loans then it was not effective.
  • 4. 5. Identify a complex global issue, develop a systematic plan of investigation, and present innovative sustainable solutions. (1,2,3,4,) The issue would be something large such as global hunger. Some of the possible contributing factors such as government subsidies, The World Bank, population, IMF, poverty, corruption, social program etc. could be divided up amongst the students and using email, blogs, Google Docs, Wiki’s, etc. they could collaborate on solutions in a final report.
  • 5. 8. Model legal and ethical behaviors when using information and technology by properly selecting, acquiring, and citing resources. (3,5) James Frey To show students how not to write, research, and present information they could be assigned to research examples of bias, lies, and other unethical behaviors vying for their attention in TV, radio, internet, film and novels.
