Panel Discussion: Technology Trends and the Future of EducationGeorge Veletsianos
ย
The HKAECT conference in June 2019 in Hong Kong featured a panel discussion on technology trends and the future of education led by George Veletsianos, a professor and Canada Research Chair in Innovative Learning & Technology at Royal Roads University in Victoria, British Columbia. The panel discussed the rise of online learning both within and outside of universities, flexible learning, openness, and collaborative course design and development.
The Chinese Ministry of Education approved Stevens Institute of Technology to continue offering two graduate programs - in telecommunications management and photonics and microelectronics - through a partnership with Beijing Institute of Technology in Beijing, China. This makes Stevens one of the first American universities to be re-accredited in China. Over 160 Chinese students have already graduated from the programs, with 40 more expected to enroll in the fall. The degrees earned in China are identical to those earned in the United States.
Moving Forward With Technology Increasing Student Achievement discusses how technology can improve communication, support professional development for educators, and help students learn life skills while increasing motivation. The document cites research showing that technology implementation significantly improves communication between home and school, leads to more student-centered learning activities when used for professional development, and increases both student self-value and achievement when used to support collaborative and computer-based instruction. It concludes that technology can help students today and in the future, so schools should adopt these practices.
This presentation was held at the final meeting of #IDPbyNMR (www.IDPbyNMR.eu), a Scientific Initial Training Network #ITN supported by the European Union #FP7 #MarieCurieActions. It is summary of 10 years experience in training #graduates of European Universities in skills complementary to the work in research.
The document is a syllabus for a Science, Technology & Society course at the University of Nueva Caceres. It outlines the course details including objectives, topics, outcomes, and assessments. The course examines interactions between science, technology, and society and seeks to develop reflective knowledge in students. Key topics covered include intellectual revolutions, indigenous science, human flourishing, information age, biodiversity, genetics, nanotechnology, and climate change. Students are assessed through presentations, essays, recitation, quizzes, and exams. The syllabus provides the framework for students to understand impacts of science and technology on society.
Presentation titled "Innovation in the Teaching of Sustainable Development in Europe: The Case of ISLE Erasmus Network". SPDECE 2012 Symposium, Alicante, Spain, 14/6/2012 (http://transducens.dlsi.ua.es/congress/spdece2012)

The Evolution of Kanazawa Technical CollegeRobert Songer
ย
In April of 2018, Kanazawa Technical College (KTC) will open the new school year as International College of Technology Kanazawa (ICT). The educational program planned for this transformation is radically different from anything a Japanese 5-year College of Technology (or Kosen) has tried before. It combines an intensive education on a boarding-style campus with compulsory overseas study and collaborative projects from local communities and industries in a primarily English curriculum. How does a school originally founded to produce factory workers in the Kosen system evolve into an internationally-minded, interdisciplinary engineering school with a focus on authentic design projects? This talk will illustrate the social, organizational, and human factors that have driven KTC to become international in a comparison of the historical context of the Kosen system to modern drivers for change.
