Testimonials from current students praise the opportunities to gain knowledge and experience success with support from instructors.
In 2015, three economies in China participated in the OECD Programme for International Student Assessment, or PISA, for the first time: Beijing, a municipality, Jiangsu, a province on the eastern coast of the country, and Guangdong, a southern coastal province. Shanghai, which, like Beijing, is also a Chinese megacity of over 20 million people, has participated in PISA since 2009. These four economies alone are home to more than 233 million people – more than the entire population of Brazil, nearly three times the population of Germany and nearly four times the population of France. What do we know about the largest education system in the world? A system that is educating 260 million young people, and that employs 15 million teachers? Not very much. This paper aims to change that. It provides a broad overview of how China’s education system is organised and operates, and how reforms, both past and current, have reshaped education in China over time. The report then examines in greater detail education in the four economies within China that participated in PISA 2015. It provides the context in which China’s participation in PISA – and its results in PISA – should be interpreted.

CIEE and Johnson and Wales University have collaborated for the past two years to develop a freshman study abroad program called "Expanding the Freshman Experience." This session will focus on how they created best practices related to transitioning from the more traditional faculty-led program to a collaborative, non-faculty-led program that serves an underrepresented population. Attendees will learn how to design a program that meets the unique needs of freshman students and encourage them to safely leave their comfort zone. Special consideration during this session is given to the developmental phase of emerging adulthood in the design of program components, overall tone, and expectations.
Immediacy, Engagement, and Immersion: Critical Pedagogy and the Study Abroad ...CIEE
Intentional, critically informed pedagogies are a means of developing and shaping the kinds of transformative experiences students should have. While much of the work in the field of international education emphasizes formal assessments, we’ll focus on critical pedagogy and how to best shape experiences that promote experiential learning, immediacy, engagement, and immersion that is both self-reflexive and respectful. We’ll consider approaches and methodologies that can be used for specific study abroad programs and the ways in which an ethos of deeply intercultural and experiential learning can inform campus and curriculum internationalization efforts.
China's education system has been experiencing major challenges in the last two decades, which have, unfortunately, not been tackled properly and deeply enough to disappear. Also, those challenges are only known by a few since the collection of data in China is almost impossible, except in the Shanghai and Beijing regions.
The two main challenges that China is currently facing are, on the one hand, an exam-oriented system, making life a nightmare for high school students and on the other hand, the development of major inequalities of performance between urban and rural regions.
As a result, our group of students came up with policy recommendations for the Chinese government to include to their undergoing reform plan, which you will discover in the last part of the PowerPoint.

Experiencing tough history and indigence after war, investing in and training human resources became a
priority task for the government. Education has thus been key in the reconstruction and growth of the

ELEMENTARY EDUCATIONThe Master of Education in Elementary Education, offered by the Dr. Helen Marshall Caldwell School of Education and Psychology, consists
of thirty-six (36) credit hours, minimum, which includes a culminating action research project. As identified in our unit's conceptual
framework, the Teacher Education Program at Elizabeth City State University represents the knowledge, skills, and dispositions that we
believe to be essential for effective teaching and decision making, attained through a collaborative relationship between the University,
the Local Education Agency, the community, and family. The conceptual framework also directs the teacher education program by
informing the decisions that faculty make regarding teaching and evaluation. Toward this end, our conceptual framework identifies three
types of knowledge: content knowledge, professional knowledge, and pedagogical knowledge, that all candidates in our program will
attain. In addition, successful candidates will demonstrate the six critical skils: reflective practitioners, proficient technology users,
competent evaluators, advocators for diversity, effective facilitators, and critical thinkers.
