With the passage of the Energy Consumer Protection Act, 2010 (ECPA), consumers have enhanced protections with regard to energy re-billers, their marketing practices, and re-billing contracts entered into after January 1, 2011. The webinar presents information to help consumers recognize the need for caution if contacted by an energy re-biller, and to be better informed about their rights if they find themselves trapped in an unfavourable re-billing contract. Pay Day Loans Slideshare Version

Ofcom is funded by industry fees and government grants. It operates under the Public Interest Disclosure Act. BCAP codes are the regulations that ads must follow to avoid being pulled for being offensive or misleading.
Department of Defense Publishes Proposed Rule on Counterfeit Electronics
The Department of Defense published a proposed rule to amend the Defense Federal Acquisition Regulation Supplement in order to implement sections of the 2012 and 2013 National Defense Authorization Acts related to countering counterfeit electronics in the DOD supply chain. The proposed rule would shift liability for replacing counterfeit parts to contractors and require them to have systems for detecting and avoiding counterfeit parts. It defines key terms and makes costs from counterfeit parts unallowable, taking into account a safe harbor provision. The rule would significantly impact DOD suppliers by increasing compliance costs and liability risks for any counterfeit parts placed in the supply chain.

Competition in Australia is regulated primarily by the Competition and Consumer Act 2010. This Act prohibits anti-competitive conduct such as cartel conduct, misuse of market power, and agreements that substantially lessen competition. Conduct can be either a per se offense if it is obviously anti-competitive, or a conditional offense if it lessens competition. Key regulatory bodies that enforce competition laws include the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission, Australian Competition Tribunal, and National Competition Council.
ITU 37/2016 final
The First-tier Tax Tribunal issued two important decisions. The first concerned whether services provided by two companies took place in the UK or outside based on place of supply rules. The Tribunal concluded the companies had a fixed establishment in the UK, so supplies were in the UK and subject to UK VAT. The second concerned whether the customer in an insurance agency case was the insurer or insured person. Based on the contract, the Tribunal found the customer was the insurer. Finally, HMRC announced plans to extend the disclosure regime for tax avoidance schemes to VAT and indirect taxes in September 2017.

Consumer protection act,2019

Issues of electronic contracts
1) Electronic contracts are standard form contracts with non-negotiable terms formulated by one party like a manufacturer or service provider. The Information Technology Act, 2000 recognizes the validity of e-contracts.
2) E-contracts can be formed via email exchanges or through websites using clickwrap, browsewrap, or shrinkwrap agreements. However, e-contracts raise issues around jurisdiction, capacity to contract, consent, and meeting of minds.
3) The Information Technology Act and Indian Evidence Act provide for the validity and evidentiary value of e-contracts in India if they meet requirements for identification of parties, subject matter, signatures. However, the laws do not address all aspects of online contracts.

The Consumer Protection Act, 2019 updates and replaces the previous Consumer Protection Act. Key changes include renaming District Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum to District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission, increasing the appeal period to State Commissions from 30 to 45 days, and revising the pecuniary jurisdiction of consumer commissions. The new law provides greater protections for consumers, encourages online dispute resolution, and regulates e-commerce and misleading advertisements. Corporates are now responsible for exercising greater care regarding product quality, safety, and addressing consumer complaints to avoid costly litigation.
