1. ECOO 2010 Logo Concepts
by the TGJ4M class, The Linden School
2. Alannah
For my logo design, I took a picture of a globe and focused on North America. I did this because the conference is happening in
Ontario, however people from all over North America, or even the world are welcome to come to the conference or see live streams
of it online. The globe also shows our interconnection to one another and how we are inspired by what is around us. In order to
focus on the live stream aspect of the conference, I created a network cable that is circling the globe, acting like the speed of light.
The network cable also represents how we are able to connect to one another through technology (i.e. the internet). From Ontario, I
added the WiFi signal to show that the conference is in Ontario, so that is where all the action and streams come from. Adding in
both the WiFi signal and the network cable show new and old technology and how technology is constantly changing.
The words “Inspire, Connect, Teach” and where they are placed on my logo also amplify these points. For example “Inspire” is
above the world, “Connect” is on the network cable, and “Learn” is near the base of the world. This also shows how learning has the
biggest impact on all of us and that is why the conference exists. I wanted to display the year of the conference and that it is an
ECOO conference, so I added in “ECOO 2010” to the base of the globe in a smaller font to give the viewers some more information
about it.

Rationale: I used a style based on straight lines because I wanted to focus on
the straightforwardness and simplicity of technology. The honeycomb shape
shows connectedness. And the image of the Earth (the Blue Marble map) to
show the global aspect of the company. I also included another version of my
logo where I use an archaic map from the 16th century map maker Ortelius.
This was my first version of the logo and I used the old map to show the
expansion of knowledge and the rapidity of growth, such as the growth of
technology.

While designing my logo, I looked at several different options. I wanted something clean and different.
Though my logo is not computer related, I found when I did try things with technology related photo's it
was to clunky. That's when I got the idea to use an airplane. Airplanes are completely based on computer
technology and I wanted a display that will come out of people going to computer classes and learning
computer skills. I thought that the blue would go nicely against a white back drop and that utilizing the jet
stream as line to write “inspire, connect, learn” on was an effective way to really get the message across.

For this logo, I wanted to create a good representation of the three words used to describe what the
organization wishes to accomplish; Inspire, Connect and Learn. I decided to make a representation of
each word. For inspire, I made spotlights; for Connect, I made a puzzle piece; and for Learn, I made a
computer mouse. I decided not to use a font, but to create a pixel-like interpretation of the name, to help
emphasize the technology aspect of the organization. I noted that the colour orange was requested, so I
made one with orange and gray, and the other a completely different colour scheme which I thought would
be a bolder display of my logo. This, of course can be changed to to any other colour if you wish.

My logo is simple and clean and incorporates the slogan of the conference “inspire,
connect, learn” without actually using the text. I used the WiFi symbol because I feel that
it represents the idea of interconnection through technology- more specifically the
connections made and the knowledge gained via the internet. Considering the
conference is all about learning from one another and interfacing through technology, I
felt that this symbol would be both easily understood and look visually interesting. As
well, the font is bold and large and would appear nicely on a screen and in print alike.

Rationale: I based my logo design on the idea of a light bulb because it is the universal
symbol for idea and knowledge, which to me is a very important aspect of ECOO. Also in
the center of the light bulb I used a serial connector on the right and a USB connector on
the left. These represent the technological aspect of ECOO. Inspire, Connect, Learn are
all incorporated into my logo in different fonts to visually demonstrate what each word
means in relation to ECOO's mission.

Rationale: For my design I decided to show the direct “connection” (no pun intended) of technology
and learning. All of the words were made to represent network cables (please note the network connecter
at the end about to connect to the brain). As stated the colour orange was liked so I used the exact orange
that was used in last year's design. I began working on this keeping the 2009 logo in mind, therefore I
apologize that I used “teach” instead of “learn”. If you chose this design I will gladly fix it. Thank you

Rationale: My Logo design for your company represents the technology aspects by connecting
with people across the world and especially networking with teachers and students over Ontario, inspiring
your new methods of teaching. The logo I designed is a web cam with a design of the world, i chose this
because i thought it best represents connecting with people anywhere, anytime in the world and it is a
really good piece of technology to connect with people, teach/ learn to use various technology to form new
bonds around the world, and inspire new ways of teaching.

Rationale: I was focusing on drawing part, and I used Inkscape to colour them.
Basically this drawing part shows that human and computer combined. Teachers, and
students are enjoy to learning through the technology because it is comfortable, easy to
do and fun. If you see human's eyes, you can see that computer code number. which
means that we understand technology. And memory chips represent that we easy save
and work through the technology.
