This study compared passive and active macroinvertebrate collection methods along the Susquehanna River in Pennsylvania. Passive methods included rock baskets and Hester-Dendy samplers, while active methods used D-frame nets and Serber samplers. The diversity, pollution tolerance, and taxonomic composition of collected macroinvertebrates were analyzed. Results showed that active methods captured a more diverse set of organisms but passive methods also provided valuable data. Both collection types should be used to fully understand macroinvertebrate communities in non-wadeable rivers.

This study compared the movement of wild-caught guppies from Trinidadian rivers to laboratory-reared guppies in a circular flow tank. The tank was divided into zones of different water flow speeds and each fish's movement was video recorded for 5 minutes. While the total distance traveled did not differ between groups, the laboratory-reared guppies had a higher mean velocity in the faster flow zones, suggesting differences in rheotactic behavior when facing currents. This preliminary data will inform a larger study on how predation level and habitat affect guppy rheotaxis.

They analyzed otter populations using camera traps, spraint markings, and genetic analysis along transects covering on-site and off-site water bodies. The analyses found that otters use the quarry lagoons for breeding and dispersing into surrounding areas, demonstrating these habitats provide essential resources. Habitat suitability and ecological connectivity models identified forested buffer areas and vegetation cover and opportunities to enhance connectivity between suitable habitats both within the quarry and beyond.

White River had the highest percentages of pollution-tolerant organisms and Chironomidae, and lowest EPT, indicating most impairment. Percentage of pollution-tolerant organisms increased with higher phosphorus levels at most sites.

Even with the most aggressive mitigation of CO2 emissions (RCP 2.6 scenario), preliminary results suggest three of the four species are predicted to experience habitat expansion, which could lead to greater disease incidence in the region and beyond. This is one of the first studies to predict potential expansion of tropical disease vectors and reservoirs within the tropics under climate change.

The study analyzed daily discharge data from over 1700 gauging stations in France, Spain, Australia, and the United States to classify rivers as perennial or intermittent. This study evaluated five Dunedin streams using the Maori Cultural Health Index (CHI) and compared the results to scientific measurements of stream health. CHI assesses stream health from a cultural perspective based on three components: traditional Maori site associations, resource gathering status, and eight cultural indicators. The study found significant correlations between CHI scores and macroinvertebrate community index and EPT richness at natural stream reaches, supporting the use of CHI as a predictor of stream health. However, no significant relationships were found between CHI and scientific measurements at urban stream reaches. The results indicate CHI is a suitable measure of stream health for natural streams but should be used cautiously for streams in poorer condition.

This study assessed water quality in Mormon Coulee Creek in Wisconsin by collecting Ephemeroptera, Plecoptera, and Trichoptera (EPT) insects from tile traps in the creek over three collection periods. EPT numbers were highest near the headwaters and declined further downstream, indicating higher water quality upstream. Substrate type also influenced EPT numbers, with more found in areas with pebble and cobble substrate. Overall, the data suggests that regions furthest from the mouth have the highest water quality, declining with increased distance from the headwaters.

This document presents a research proposal that aims to estimate fish community diversity in the Sepetang River in Perak, Malaysia through chemometric approaches. Specifically, it will compare the forecasting capacity of fish diversity using multiple linear regression (MLR) and artificial neural networks (ANN). The research will collect data on water quality parameters and fish diversity indices at various sites along the Sepetang River. MLR and ANN models will then be developed and evaluated to determine which approach more accurately predicts fish diversity based on water quality inputs. The best performing model could provide a reliable tool for regulating and managing local fish resources.The National Water Census
The National Water Census aims to provide stakeholders with tools to assess current and future water availability. The Delaware River Basin Focus Area Study is testing these tools at a local scale. It is developing water use databases, models to estimate streamflow and evaluate land use/climate change impacts, and relationships between streamflow and aquatic ecology to inform management decisions. The results will be delivered through online applications to help users construct local water budgets and test scenarios.

This document summarizes a study that characterized the spatial and temporal patterns of intermittent rivers globally. The study analyzed daily discharge data from over 1700 gauging stations in France, Spain, Australia, and the United States to classify rivers as perennial or intermittent. Of the 1684 stations considered, 455 were classified as intermittent, having on average at least 5 zero-flow days per year. The analysis found that over 50% of intermittent rivers in the database were located in Australia, while proportions in Spain and France were 25% and 7%, respectively. Intermittence demonstrated high seasonality varying between countries. Links between climate variability and intermittence were not straightforward and varied between countries. This study evaluated five Dunedin streams using the Maori Cultural Health Index (CHI) and compared the results to scientific measurements of stream health. CHI assesses stream health from a cultural perspective based on three components: traditional Maori site associations, resource gathering status, and eight cultural indicators. The study found significant correlations between CHI scores and macroinvertebrate community index and EPT richness at natural stream reaches, supporting the use of CHI as a predictor of stream health. However, no significant relationships were found between CHI and scientific measurements at urban stream reaches. The results indicate CHI is a suitable measure of stream health for natural streams but should be used cautiously for streams in poorer condition.

This doctoral thesis examines sustainable resource use through several case studies, including analyses of resource flows in the Canton of Geneva and evaluations of space life support systems. Four case studies analyze the metabolism of copper, phosphorus, wood, and lithium in Geneva, constructing dynamic models to project resource flows over decades under different scenarios. A case study compares the physico-chemical ARES and biological BIORAT life support systems in terms of resource use and energy consumption. The results show that following population growth would multiply resource use by 2030 and 2080 in Geneva. Recycling could decrease phosphorus imports but health impacts require study. This study assessed water quality in Mormon Coulee Creek in Wisconsin by collecting Ephemeroptera, Plecoptera, and Trichoptera (EPT) insects from tile traps in the creek over three collection periods. EPT numbers were highest near the headwaters and declined further downstream, indicating higher water quality upstream. Substrate type also influenced EPT numbers, with more found in areas with pebble and cobble substrate. Overall, the data suggests that regions furthest from the mouth have the highest water quality, declining with increased distance from the headwaters.

This document presents a research proposal that aims to estimate fish community diversity in the Sepetang River in Perak, Malaysia through chemometric approaches. Specifically, it will compare the forecasting capacity of fish diversity using multiple linear regression (MLR) and artificial neural networks (ANN). The research will collect data on water quality parameters and fish diversity indices at various sites along the Sepetang River. MLR and ANN models will then be developed and evaluated to determine which approach more accurately predicts fish diversity based on water quality inputs. The best performing model could provide a reliable tool for regulating and managing local fish resources.The National Water Census
The National Water Census aims to provide stakeholders with tools to assess current and future water availability. The Delaware River Basin Focus Area Study is testing these tools at a local scale. It is developing water use databases, models to estimate streamflow and evaluate land use/climate change impacts, and relationships between streamflow and aquatic ecology to inform management decisions. The results will be delivered through online applications to help users construct local water budgets and test scenarios.

The sources of the Moroccan Middle Atlas suffer not only the effects of anthropogenic pressures, but also those of climate change whose impact is difficult to predict. Our goal is to better understand the succession of processions fauna of the upper Guigou. It is a compendium comparative between the benthic fauna collected towards the end of the years 70 (1979) in the sources Arbalou Abrchane, Tit Zil and the Wadi Guigou. As well as those harvested in the same sites, thirty-four years after. This revealed a significant drop in dissolved oxygen concentration decreased from 7.4 (mg/l) in 1979 to 2.52 (mg/l) in 2015. We have also raised an increase in the workload in chlorides and major elements. Benthic fauna, a significant change in population since 1979, with the appearance and installation of more than a dozen of taxa were identified (Simulium pseudoquinum, Gammarus gauthieri, Phagocata sp., Dugesia gonocephala). Some of these species have become invasive, such as Amphipod crustaceans Gammarus gauthieri, either very abundant as Simulium pseudoquinum. We note the effect “medium” for the direct selection of the species. Other indirect effects due to the reduction of the three dimensional biogenic structures would have limited recognizably State niches by polluo-sensitive species (Ephemeroptera, Heteroptera, Coleoptera and Trichoptera) and could contribute to the total disappearance of all order plecoptera in favour of a dominance of the polluo-tolerant species (Oligochaetes). Over a period of 35 years, there is a deterioration of the health of the aquatic ecosystem studied, a State of art reflected by a decline of the benthic community that lives there.

The degradation of surface water quality in Cameroon is linked to the absence of a functional waste management strategy. For such a strategy to be efficient, a general understanding of aquatic ecosystems will be of importance, these management strategies are particularly lacking in the eastern part of the country. To better understand and appreciate the ecosystems in the town of Bertoua, five ponds where chosen for the physicochemical and zooplankton communities analysis. Sampling on these ponds was conducted from March 2016 to April 2017 on a monthly basis. Samples for physicochemical analysis were collected at 20cm below water surface at the middle of each pond and measured were done following the recommendations of Rodier and Alpha. Biological samples were collected by filtering 50 liters of water through a 64µm mesh opening sieve. Identification was done using standard methods and identification keys. One-way ANOVA analysis was conducted to assess the potential differences between the different ponds base monthly observations. Although they are all hypereutrophic, with regard to the values of the physicochemical parameters, the five ponds showed no significant difference between them but, the structure of the zooplankton community remains very diverse. 118 zooplankton species have been identified in the five ponds. The distribution of zooplankton in these hydrosystems was mainly governed by the presence of organic matter. This study sheds light on the status and biological diversity of ponds in eastern Cameroon, data on which to rely to develop management strategies.

The study compared macroinvertebrate communities in 4 urban streams and 4 forested streams in Vermont. Species richness did not significantly differ between urban and forested streams, but EPT richness (pollution-intolerant taxa) was significantly lower in urban streams, supporting the hypothesis. Dominance (proportion of the most abundant species) did not significantly differ. The results suggest EPT richness better distinguishes urban from forested stream quality than other metrics and that urban streams lack characteristics like forested riparian zones that support diverse EPT communities. Further study of specific taxa and agricultural streams was recommended.

Alrededor de 30 millones de colchones llegan al final de su vida cada año en la Unión Europea y gran parte de ellos acaban en vertedero o son incinerados.
Este tipo de residuo genera problemas muy importantes en vertederos, ya que ocupa un volumen muy elevado, genera inestabilidades en el vaso de vertido y aumenta el riesgo de incendios por recalentamiento del material férrico que contienen o por combustión espontánea de determinados materiales como el látex.
Esto supone un verdadero problema medioambiental y la búsqueda de una solución para el reciclado de estos colchones es clave para poder alcanzar los objetivos de reciclado para 2030.
En respuesta a esta necesidad, nace el proyecto ORACLE, en el que se están desarrollando núcleos de espuma de alto valor añadido a partir de colchones fuera de uso (CFU) para su reutilización en los sectores de la construcción y el descanso.
El uso de núcleos de poliuretano (PUR) reciclado proveniente de colchones representa una gran oportunidad para el impulso de una construcción sostenible, ya que permite mejorar aspectos tan importantes como el aislamiento y el confort acústico o la durabilidad en el reves-timiento de paredes y suelos.
Como resultado del proyecto ORACLE, el material reciclado de colchones se podrá reintroducir en el propio sector del descanso. De este modo, un residuo generado en las ciudades se convierte en materia prima en la edificación de esas mismas ciudades, creando sinergias entre los sectores del descanso y la construcción y promoviendo la economía circular.

Distrito Digital Comunitat Valenciana junto con la UPV Campus de Gandia, el Ajuntament de Gandia, Safor Salut e Innsomnia, han organizado la jornada E-Health Gandia Demo Day que se celebró el jueves 15 de junio a las 10.30h, en el Aula Magna del Campus de Gandia de la UPV.
Durante la jornada se presentaron los resultados de los pilotos llevados a cabo por las empresas del programa de Innovación Abierta eHealth que fueron elegidas para testar sus soluciones en centros de salud públicos así como se compartirán los resultados y la repercusión del programa en su conjunto. Además, se dieron a conocer ejemplos de algunos proyectos de impacto en el sector de salud que se están desarrollando en la universidad y en el ecosistema cercano a través del programa Safor Salut. A continuación, tuvo lugar la presentación de las nuevas empresas que se están adhiriendo al hub de Distrito Digital de Gandia.

El objetivo del proyecto CaboRorcual, de carácter multidisciplinar y en marcha desde 2021, “es analizar las poblaciones de rorcual común (Balaenoptera physalus) -el segundo animal más grande del planeta después de la ballena azul- que migran por el Cabo de la Nao e identificar hacia dónde se dirigen”, según Eduardo Belda profesor e investigador del Campus de Gandia de la Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV).
Por otra parte, además de aportar información sobre los movimientos y las rutas migratorias de estos animales, se evalúan “los posibles riesgos para la conservación de esta especie en la zona debido a la actividad antrópica, en particular, la asociada al tráfico marítimo y al ruido submarino”.

Antecedentes y objetivos del proyecto CaboRorcual Campus de Gandia - Universitat Politècnica de València
Personal investigador del Campus de Gandia de la Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV) lidera y participa en el proyecto CaboRorcual, con el que se ha estudiado el rorcual común (Balaenoptera physalus), el segundo animal más grande del planeta después de la ballena azul, a su paso por el Cabo de la Nao y el Canal de Ibiza, así como los factores que amenazan sus poblaciones, cuya especie está catalogada como en rango de vulnerable.
El proyecto, bajo la coordinación del investigador y profesor del campus, Eduardo Belda, experto en el marcado y seguimiento de especies marinas, cuenta con la colaboración de la Generalitat Valenciana, los ayuntamientos de Dénia y Xàbia, la Fundación Balearia, la asociación EUCRANTE, el Instituto Español de Oceanografía y la Fundación Oceanogràfic, que participará en algunos de los aspectos más novedosos del trabajo como la toma de muestras biológicas y el marcado satelital de los animales.
El proyecto cuenta con el apoyo de la Fundación Biodiversidad del Ministerio para la Transición Ecológica y Reto Democrático.

La conferència inaugural ha sigut a càrrec de la ministra de Ciència i Innovació
El Campus de Gandia de la Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV) ha celebrat la seua tradicional conferència inaugural. Amb aquest acte, que ha congregat personal i alumnat, autoritats locals, comarcals i provincials, representants d'associacions i empreses, ha sigut inaugurat el curs acadèmic.
L'esdeveniment ha estat presidit pel rector de la UPV, José E. Capilla, qui ha manifestat que “el Campus de Gandia, multidisciplinari i obert, és clau per al desenvolupament social i cultural de la UPV en la seua vertebració, a través del territori valencià”. És “font de talent i innovació, i representa el ferm compromís amb la comunitat universitària, amb Gandia, la Comunitat Valenciana i amb la societat".
El Campus de Gandia, una aposta de futur
Víctor Sánchez, subdirector 1r/Cap d'Estudis i director en funcions de l'Escola Politècnica Superior de Gandia (EPSG), ha ressaltat que aquest “ha sigut un any excepcional en termes de projectes i finançament". "El volum econòmic d’R+D+i es va situar per damunt dels huit milions d'euros, una xifra molt superior a la registrada en 2020”. A més, "l'IGIC ha aconseguit situar-se entre les 25 primeres estructures d'investigació, de les més de 80 presents en la UPV” i “des de la Unitat Mixta d'Investigació en Tecnologia per a Estudis Marins s'està desenvolupant projectes científics de gran entitat”.
Així mateix, ha recalcat l'esforç realitzat “per tal d’augmentar la nostra oferta de títols”. "El Màster Universitari en Professor d'Educació Secundària ha entrat en la fase de disseny del pla d'estudis per a la seua posterior sol·licitud de verificació”. I, en els pròxims dies, “es rebrà la resposta a la sol·licitud de verificació del Màster en Intel·ligència Turística”. “El Campus de Gandia és un campus que mira a la mar com a aposta de futur”, ha afirmat. Per tant, “hem sol·licitat autorització per implantar el Grau en Ciència i Tecnologia del Mar”.
Per a Sánchez, “som una institució educativa i volem formar persones capaces de transformar la societat”. Igualment, ha tingut paraules d'agraïment per a les càtedres i els seus patrons, “vaixell almirall de les nostres relacions amb l'entorn”, per a l'Ajuntament de Gandia i el conjunt empresarial, al qual ha convidat a fi que “aposten pel talent del Campus de Gandia”.

Neonatal nurseries often suffer from excessive noise pollution. Noise pollution encompasses two concepts, noise and vibration. The latter can be transmitted into the incubators of admitted neonates and the main source, although not the only one, is the motor of the incubator equipment itself.
The usual equipment of a room includes alarms, pulse oximeters, infusion pumps, etc., and has not been designed with the environmental comfort of patients in mind, nor has the room environment, such as central air conditioning. The geometrical shape of the incubator closure and the mechanism for attaching this type of alarm to the incubators, as well as the design of the motor and the motor's mounting, can amplify certain frequencies of airborne noise and vibrations.
According to studies carried out in situ, these levels may exceed the levels indicated in the international standard ISO 2631-2: 2003 and the different national regulations in force in each country. In the case of Spain it is the Royal Decree 1367/2007, which establishes the acoustic quality objectives for noise and vibration in the interior space of buildings for housing, residential, hospital, educational or cultural uses.
Research staff from the Universitat Politècnica de València and the Foundation for the Promotion of Health and Biomedical Research of the Valencian Community FISABIO has developed a methodology to measure the vibrations transmitted to newborns inside incubators to propose the most appropriate solutions.
The methodology takes into account the sources of vibration, spatial conditions of the rooms, the complete design of the neonatal incubator, the position of the incubator motor and the position of the neonatal patient during admission.

El Campus de Gandia de la Universitat Politècnica València (UPV), en el marco de la Semana de la Ciencia 2022, acoge la exposición “Alexander von Humboldt: en la naturaleza todo está conectado”, del 21 de octubre al 11 de noviembre en la Sala de Usos Múltiples. El objetivo es acercar la figura del naturalista alemán a estudiantes, a toda la comunidad universitaria y a la sociedad en general.
Esta muestra fue proyectada por el Museo de Ciencias Naturales del Ayuntamiento de València en el año 2019, para celebrar el 250 aniversario del nacimiento del Humboldt, y cuenta con el apoyo de la Fundación Banco Sabadell, la Fundación Española para la Ciencia y la Tecnología (FECYT) y la Delegación del CSIC en la Comunitat Valenciana-Casa de la Ciència, encargada de organizar la itinerancia de la muestra.

Píldora tecnológica sobre aspectos clave para el desarrollo de apps en el sector salud, el jueves 30 de junio, de 13:00 a 14:30 horas, de forma presencial en el edificio de Fomento (Gandia) y emisión on-line por zoom.
En el mercado, hay más de 165.000 aplicaciones relacionadas con la salud, y la cifra va en aumento. Estas herramientas facilitan el control, la comunicación y la información de nuestra salud. La gran mayoría están dedicadas a áreas de bienestar, dieta y ejercicio, y el 22%, aproximadamente, están destinadas a enfermedades, manejo, y control del tratamiento. Con las apps se brinda la oportunidad de identificar posibles problemas de salud, de una forma temprana, hecho que motiva a adoptar una mejor conducta en la salud.
El desarrollo de apps para el sector salud representa una excelente oportunidad de innovar en la mejora de la salud de la población, así como en la reducción de costes y tiempos en la asistencia sanitaria, y de forma particular en los entornos de asociaciones de personas y pacientes.
Durante la píldora abordaremos los conceptos básicos del desarrollo de las aplicaciones en el sector salud, para disponer de información sobre cuando tiene sentido desarrollar las aplicaciones propias, cuándo recurrir a las aplicaciones existentes, qué aspectos deben ser tenidos en cuenta para su éxito, así como principales repositorios.
El objetivo final de esta jornada es aportar información que incentive la propuesta de proyectos de investigación e innovación por parte de personal sanitario, personal investigador universitario, asociaciones de personas y pacientes, ayuntamientos, mancomunidades y empresas.

La pandemia de la Covid-19 ha puesto de relieve la importancia de contar con un sistema sanitario robusto, dotado de los recursos y medios técnicos necesarios para atender a la ciudadanía. Una crisis sanitaria como la actual agrava los problemas de listas de espera, ralentiza pruebas, la situación de pacientes crónicos y reduce las visitas médicas por dolencias más allá del coronavirus. De ahí la importancia de contar con soluciones tecnológicas que ayuden a la detección precoz de enfermedades y patologías.
En la actualidad existen muchos dispositivos y aplicaciones con este fin, además de la posibilidad de desarrollo de soluciones a medida para cada enfermedad, y que permitirán una mejora de la calidad asistencial y de la gestión hospitalaria. “En estos momentos disponemos de las capacidades científicas y tecnológicas para resolver casi cualquier reto e integrar soluciones disruptivas. Tan solo falta identificar los casos de interés”, han señalado desde el quipo técnico de Safor Salut.
En este contexto, el evento tiene por objetivo aportar información que incentive la creación de nuevos proyectos de investigación e innovación colaborativos basados en esta tecnología por parte del personal investigador del Campus de Gandia (UPV) y del DS Gandia, Hospital de La Pedrera, empresas de la Safor y asociaciones de pacientes.

The debris of the ‘last major merger’ is dynamically young
The Milky Way’s (MW) inner stellar halo contains an [Fe/H]-rich component with highly eccentric orbits, often referred to as the
‘last major merger.’ Hypotheses for the origin of this component include Gaia-Sausage/Enceladus (GSE), where the progenitor
collided with the MW proto-disc 8–11 Gyr ago, and the Virgo Radial Merger (VRM), where the progenitor collided with the
MW disc within the last 3 Gyr. These two scenarios make different predictions about observable structure in local phase space,
because the morphology of debris depends on how long it has had to phase mix. The recently identified phase-space folds in Gaia
DR3 have positive caustic velocities, making them fundamentally different than the phase-mixed chevrons found in simulations
at late times. Roughly 20 per cent of the stars in the prograde local stellar halo are associated with the observed caustics. Based
on a simple phase-mixing model, the observed number of caustics are consistent with a merger that occurred 1–2 Gyr ago.
We also compare the observed phase-space distribution to FIRE-2 Latte simulations of GSE-like mergers, using a quantitative
measurement of phase mixing (2D causticality). The observed local phase-space distribution best matches the simulated data
1–2 Gyr after collision, and certainly not later than 3 Gyr. This is further evidence that the progenitor of the ‘last major merger’
did not collide with the MW proto-disc at early times, as is thought for the GSE, but instead collided with the MW disc within
the last few Gyr, consistent with the body of work surrounding the VRM.

Immersive Learning That Works: Research Grounding and Paths Forward
We will metaverse into the essence of immersive learning, into its three dimensions and conceptual models. This approach encompasses elements from teaching methodologies to social involvement, through organizational concerns and technologies. Challenging the perception of learning as knowledge transfer, we introduce a 'Uses, Practices & Strategies' model operationalized by the 'Immersive Learning Brain' and ‘Immersion Cube’ frameworks. This approach offers a comprehensive guide through the intricacies of immersive educational experiences and spotlighting research frontiers, along the immersion dimensions of system, narrative, and agency. Our discourse extends to stakeholders beyond the academic sphere, addressing the interests of technologists, instructional designers, and policymakers. We span various contexts, from formal education to organizational transformation to the new horizon of an AI-pervasive society. This keynote aims to unite the iLRN community in a collaborative journey towards a future where immersive learning research and practice coalesce, paving the way for innovative educational research and practice landscapes.

The binding of cosmological structures by massless topological defects
Assuming spherical symmetry and weak field, it is shown that if one solves the Poisson equation or the Einstein field
equations sourced by a topological defect, i.e. a singularity of a very specific form, the result is a localized gravitational
field capable of driving flat rotation (i.e. Keplerian circular orbits at a constant speed for all radii) of test masses on a thin
spherical shell without any underlying mass. Moreover, a large-scale structure which exploits this solution by assembling
concentrically a number of such topological defects can establish a flat stellar or galactic rotation curve, and can also deflect
light in the same manner as an equipotential (isothermal) sphere. Thus, the need for dark matter or modified gravity theory is
mitigated, at least in part.

Phenomics assisted breeding in crop improvement
As the population is increasing and will reach about 9 billion upto 2050. Also due to climate change, it is difficult to meet the food requirement of such a large population. Facing the challenges presented by resource shortages, climate
change, and increasing global population, crop yield and quality need to be improved in a sustainable way over the coming decades. Genetic improvement by breeding is the best way to increase crop productivity. With the rapid progression of functional
genomics, an increasing number of crop genomes have been sequenced and dozens of genes influencing key agronomic traits have been identified. However, current genome sequence information has not been adequately exploited for understanding
the complex characteristics of multiple gene, owing to a lack of crop phenotypic data. Efficient, automatic, and accurate technologies and platforms that can capture phenotypic data that can
be linked to genomics information for crop improvement at all growth stages have become as important as genotyping. Thus,
high-throughput phenotyping has become the major bottleneck restricting crop breeding. Plant phenomics has been defined as the high-throughput, accurate acquisition and analysis of multi-dimensional phenotypes
during crop growing stages at the organism level, including the cell, tissue, organ, individual plant, plot, and field levels. With the rapid development of novel sensors, imaging technology,
and analysis methods, numerous infrastructure platforms have been developed for phenotyping.

The pygmy halfbeak Dermogenys colletei, is known for its viviparous nature, this presents an intriguing case of relatively low fecundity, raising questions about potential compensatory reproductive strategies employed by this species. Our study delves into the examination of fecundity and the Gonadosomatic Index (GSI) in the Pygmy Halfbeak, D. colletei (Meisner, 2001), an intriguing viviparous fish indigenous to Sarawak, Borneo. We hypothesize that the Pygmy halfbeak, D. colletei, may exhibit unique reproductive adaptations to offset its low fecundity, thus enhancing its survival and fitness. To address this, we conducted a comprehensive study utilizing 28 mature female specimens of D. colletei, carefully measuring fecundity and GSI to shed light on the reproductive adaptations of this species. Our findings reveal that D. colletei indeed exhibits low fecundity, with a mean of 16.76 ± 2.01, and a mean GSI of 12.83 ± 1.27, providing crucial insights into the reproductive mechanisms at play in this species. These results underscore the existence of unique reproductive strategies in D. colletei, enabling its adaptation and persistence in Borneo's diverse aquatic ecosystems, and call for further ecological research to elucidate these mechanisms. This study lends to a better understanding of viviparous fish in Borneo and contributes to the broader field of aquatic ecology, enhancing our knowledge of species adaptations to unique ecological challenges.

With increasing population, people need to rely on packaged food stuffs. Packaging of food materials requires the preservation of food. There are various methods for the treatment of food to preserve them and irradiation treatment of food is one of them. It is the most common and the most harmless method for the food preservation as it does not alter the necessary micronutrients of food materials. Although irradiated food doesn’t cause any harm to the human health but still the quality assessment of food is required to provide consumers with necessary information about the food. ESR spectroscopy is the most sophisticated way to investigate the quality of the food and the free radicals induced during the processing of the food. ESR spin trapping technique is useful for the detection of highly unstable radicals in the food. The antioxidant capability of liquid food and beverages in mainly performed by spin trapping technique.
