We celebrate Easter in April or May to commemorate the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Traditions include painting eggs, baking bread, attending church with candles, eating special foods like mageiritsa soup, and gathering with family to celebrate Christ being alive again after his crucifixion and suffering.

We celebrate the resurrection of Jesus

We paint the eggs in red, like Jesus’ blood, we
bake “tsoureki” and on Sunday midnight we go to
the church holding our Easter candles. After that,
we return to the house, we eat “mageiritsa” and
we clink the eggs. The next day, we impale lamb
and we celebrate all together.

7. Why do we celebrate easter?
Because, after the suffering of Christ, we
want to celebrate that he’s alive again.
