ALL ABOUT
EASTER
By Robert & Tate
Easter
Easter is when Jesus dies and
resurrects from the dead. He died
on the cross and resurrects from the
tomb. For Christians the egg is a
symbol of Jesus' resurrection, as
when they are cracked open they
stand for the empty tomb.
Shrove Tuesday
 Another name for Shrove Tuesday is
Pancake Day. It is was called
Pancake Day because a woman
made pancakes and when it was
time for the Church she took her
pancake and frying pan with her. To
start Lent, Christians use up all the
rich foods such as eggs and sugar.
Lent & Ash Wednesday
 Lent starts on Ash Wednesday and the
main colour of Lent is purple. On Ash
Wednesday people get a cross on
their forehead from holy water with is
made from water and ashes. They are
saying sorry for the things they have
done wrong. Christians will remember
how Jesus spent 40 days and night in
the wilderness by giving up one of their
favourite foods – usually chocolate!
Maundy Thursday
 Maundy Thursday is all about when
Jesus had a last meal with his
disciples. Christians know this meal as
“The Last Supper”. They had wine to
represent his blood and bread to
represent his flesh. Jesus washed the
feet of his disciples.
 The Queen in Britain gives Maundy
money to pensioners in specially
made red and white leather purses.
GOOD FRIDAY &
EASTER SUNDAYGood Friday: On this day Jesus was
crucified on the cross. It is a sad day for
Christians so there are no flowers or
decorations in church. Christians eat hot
cross buns to remember this day.
Easter Sunday: This is a much happier
day fro Christians because they
believe Jesus rose from the dead. Bells
are rung in church and flowers
decorate churches.
Have a good
Easter holiday!
