A Strategic Approach: GenAI in Education
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

- 3. • People used to think the earth did not move and the sun moved around us • Today we know that it is the Earth that moves around the Sun thanks to Galileo • When the Earth moves, it also rotates or turns around
- 4. • Because the Earth rotates, night and day happen in different places
- 5. • AXIS is a line that runs from the top of the earth to the bottom • The Earth’s axis it tilted (not straight up and down)
- 6. • Earth is tilted at about 23.5 o • Some scientist think that the Earth was hit by a large rock that pushed it to the side • It has stayed like that since it happened
- 7. • The earth rotates, but it also revolves around the Sun • ROTATE means to spin, revolve means to go in a circle around the Sun
- 8. • The whole trip around the Sun takes 3651/4 days. • The 1/4 day is why in February we have 29 days every four years • The whole trip around is called an ORBIT
- 9. • The world is divided into many parts • The equator divides the Earth into two parts: the northern and southern hemispheres
- 10. • Why is it summer in one hemisphere when it is winter in the other? • One part of the year the sun is closer to the northern while the other it is closer to the southern hemisphere
- 11. The Moon • The moon looks big from Earth but it is much smaller than the stars and the Sun • It looks close because it is about 384,000 km away from the earth
- 12. • The moon is about ¼ the size of Earth • If the Earth were a basketball, the moon would be a tennis ball
