Eagles have exceptionally keen vision, with eyes that can be up to 5 times better than human vision. Their retinas have more light-detecting cone cells which allows them to see more colors and detect UV light. Most eagle species live in Eurasia and Africa, with only a few found in North and South America and Australia. Eagles have strong talons and feathers but resemble vultures in build and flight. Their diet consists mainly of live mammals and birds, which they hunt, as well as carrion. Some eagle species are endangered due to hunting by humans, though bald eagle populations in the US have rebounded to over 300,000.
