Future 100 2021 by WUNDERMAN THOMPSON INTELLIGENCESoftserve
The document discusses trends in gaming and virtual events in 2021. As in-person events are sidelined due to the pandemic, gaming platforms are transforming into cultural centers where people can gather virtually. Companies like Xsolla and Teooh are seeing explosive growth in their virtual event platforms that use 3D avatars. Conferences, festivals, and brand launches are turning to gaming as the new third space to engage existing and new audiences through virtual experiences.
2015 International CES - What I learned at CES and what brands have to knowMatt Doherty
For the past three years I’ve attended International CES. Each year I break down the show into larger thematic takeaways and trends that every brand should know. I look for the bigger picture and implications of technology moving forward and unveil the opportunities at hand over the course of the four day conference. Give it a read. Get inspired by something. And if you have any questions give me a shout out on Twitter (@themattdoh). [Written and designed by Matt Doherty]

1. Augmented reality (AR) modifies a user's perception of the real world by overlaying virtual objects. While AR provides benefits like data visualization and education, it also enables privacy and surveillance concerns.
2. People using AR technology are often unaware of future challenges, like companies having influence over private data and vulnerable privacy. The Google Glass project demonstrated these issues, with users feeling their privacy was at risk.
3. AR has both positive impacts like improved data visualization and navigation, as well as negative impacts including privacy intrusion, disturbing ads, and enabling the abuse of publicly available personal information. Managing these tradeoffs will be important as AR is adapted in more areas of life.

Mastering Digital Transformation for your businessScopernia
This document discusses preparing for digital transformation through digital transformation modeling (DTM). It begins by outlining 7 metaphors - The Glass House, The Package, The Frog, etc. - to understand the impacts of changes driven by digital transformation. It then provides examples of how each metaphor could impact businesses. The document advocates for using DTM, which involves trend watching, defining business impact scenarios, and gaining insights, to help businesses prepare for an increasingly digital future and the ongoing changes it will bring. DTM can help identify where businesses may be disrupted and determine if they are ready to deal with issues like increased transparency, new competitors, and changing customer relationships.
Andraž Zorko: The End Of Research As We Know Itvalicon
The document discusses how research and media are changing due to new technologies like the internet and social networks. It predicts that by 2025, virtual realities and consumer robotics will be mainstream, and adequate hardware to support human-level AI will be available at consumer prices. Traditional media measurements will become impossible and media will need to focus on one-on-one communication and tracking effects rather than exposures. Researchers will need to analyze digital trails, social networks, and track effects of past communications to build models and predictions.
Business disruption - How disruptive is your business?Torben Rick
(www.torbenrick.eu) - A decade ago business disruption was the rare exception – now it is a reality that companies face on a regular basis. How disruptive is your business?
The document discusses 13 mobile trends for 2013 and beyond. Some key points:
- Everything Is Connected: Machine-to-machine communication is maturing, enabling objects like washing machines and coffee makers to communicate wirelessly. Cars are also becoming mobile devices with built-in connectivity.
- Everyone Gets Connected: Efforts aim to connect the next billion users in developing regions by expanding 3G/4G networks and designing more accessible hardware/software.
- The Mobile-Driven Life: Younger generations expect constant connectivity. Mobile will become the primary screen and starting point for brands. Consumers will get personalized recommendations and offers tailored to their location and profiles from connected devices like cars.
The document provides a monthly snapshot of mobile news, views, events and developments locally and abroad. It summarizes that there are now over 1 billion smartphones worldwide, mobile networks in South Africa are racing to launch 4G services, and mobile phones were crucial for following the Red Bull Stratos space jump and Hurricane Sandy. It also summarizes several industry events that took place in October and statistics on mobile phone ownership from a South African census.
This document discusses key IT trends for co-creation, including mobile computing, cloud computing, social technologies, and intelligent devices. These technologies will impact industries and business models. Digital transformation and collaboration will be important. The presentation emphasizes innovating with others through cooperation.
This document discusses various technology, business, and entertainment blogs. It provides information on popular tech blogs like Gizmodo, GigaOM, and ZDNet which cover news, reviews, and analysis of technologies. Business blogs mentioned include Quora, PandoDaily, and WiseBread which offer advice and insights for entrepreneurs. Entertainment blogs profiled are the London Theatre Blog, Juggling.TV, and PuppetVision which cover performing arts, juggling videos, and puppetry respectively. The document also summarizes Google Docs and its main functions as a free online word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software that allows for collaboration. It briefly describes LinkedIn as a business-oriented social media site primarily used for professional networking

Living IT in the Digital Era discusses how technology has advanced rapidly in recent decades. Mobile phone ownership has grown from 1 million users in 1990 to over 6 billion today. Humans now create more data in just two days than was created until 2003. No human has beaten a computer at chess since 2005. Every two minutes we now take as many photos as all of humanity did in the 1800s, with over 880 billion photos taken in 2014 alone. Business wants to build and protect their brand through amazing new services enabled by disruptive technologies like the internet of things, cloud computing, and robotics. The pace of disruption is faster than ever before, with innovations becoming superior and cheaper from day one in some cases. CIO priorities

With the annual hype fest known as the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) finishing up last week, now seems an instructive time to reflect on the hype cycle around technology and trends.
Many mistaken predictions all point to the imperfection and impermanence of the prediction business. For tech trends in particular, such as those being hatched last week at CES, it’s a perilous endeavor with few (if any) sure-fire winners and even fewer all-knowing prognosticators.
So what - why does it matter if you don't identify and understand disruptive innovation in the 21st century:
Leaders are distracted by all of the calls of "disruption". (Think "Dug" from the move UP, "squirrel!"
Learn to quiet the hype and the distractions.
There is a process to disruptive innovation that can be learned, Pattern of Disruptions.
This process has held up time, industry, and market. It can be tracked over centuries in many cases.
This process can be demonstrated. (1) Identify disruptive innovation, using the Pattern of Disruptions (Here's a link to my article that explains it https://thenextish-com.medium.com/disruptive-innovation-took-a-turn-d4d87d7d094a)
(2) Understand how to act with strategic clarity to create and to expand markets.
(3) Develop foresight to anticipate disruptions.
Assessing the risks of AI catastrophe - presentation given by David Wood on 1...David Wood
How should we respond to claims that forthcoming new versions of AI pose unacceptable risks of human catastrophe?
These slides were presented at a London Futurists webinar on 16th March 2024, by David Wood, chair of the organisation. They are an updated version of a presentation he originally shared at the recent BGI unconference in Panama City, https://bgi24.ai/. That talk was described by a number of participants as "the best of the entire event", but others said that it was "a mistake that so much time was given to this subject".
Ahead of this webinar, the talk given in Panama was significantly revised in light of feedback received at the BGI unconference.
The talk aims to improve understanding of which risks are the most credible and serious (as opposed to fanciful or unfounded). It also reviews a variety of options for how to respond to these risks. This includes varieties of so-called "accelerationism" and "singularity activism".

The Future of AI: Scenarios, Ethics, and RegulationsDavid Wood
The document discusses various scenarios related to the future of artificial intelligence (AI). It notes that AI capabilities are increasing quickly and may lead to both better and worse outcomes depending on human choices. Within a few years, AI could match or surpass human-level intelligence and creativity, disrupting many fields and taking over most jobs. However, AI systems today still sometimes operate in unexpected or harmful ways. The document argues that more focus is needed on understanding AI risks and safety to ensure AI is developed and used beneficially. Strong oversight and controls may be needed to prevent unintentional or malicious outcomes from advanced AI. Overall, the future remains uncertain but positive outcomes are possible through openness, cooperation, and prioritizing safety

The Abolition of Aging - An update for 2022.pdfDavid Wood
Slides used by David Wood, Chair of London Futurists, in his presentation on 24th March 2022 for the Church of Perpetual Life. The presentation weighed up arguments for and against the possibility of widespread low-cost access, by 2040, of treatments providing comprehensive rejuvenation (reversal of aging) in both body and mind. In particular, the presentation looks at how that balance of probabilities has shifted in the six years since these arguments were first aired in the 2016 book "The Abolition of Aging".

This document outlines practical steps to improve public perception of the future in order to positively impact the future. It recommends (1) clearly seeing a set of future scenarios and thoughtfully assessing them, (2) uncovering constructive options for action, and (3) openly, vividly, and credibly communicating about the future through trends awareness, imagination, consideration of convergence, objective monitoring, experimentation, roadmapping, and collaboration. The goal is to counter short-term thinking, champion long-term responsibility, and inspire bridge-building toward desirable futures.

Essentials of Automations: Exploring Attributes & Automation ParametersSafe Software
Building automations in FME Flow can save time, money, and help businesses scale by eliminating data silos and providing data to stakeholders in real-time. One essential component to orchestrating complex automations is the use of attributes & automation parameters (both formerly known as “keys”). In fact, it’s unlikely you’ll ever build an Automation without using these components, but what exactly are they?
Attributes & automation parameters enable the automation author to pass data values from one automation component to the next. During this webinar, our FME Flow Specialists will cover leveraging the three types of these output attributes & parameters in FME Flow: Event, Custom, and Automation. As a bonus, they’ll also be making use of the Split-Merge Block functionality.
You’ll leave this webinar with a better understanding of how to maximize the potential of automations by making use of attributes & automation parameters, with the ultimate goal of setting your enterprise integration workflows up on autopilot.

Bram Verhoef, Head of Machine Learning at Axelera AI, presents the “How Axelera AI Uses Digital Compute-in-memory to Deliver Fast and Energy-efficient Computer Vision” tutorial at the May 2024 Embedded Vision Summit.
As artificial intelligence inference transitions from cloud environments to edge locations, computer vision applications achieve heightened responsiveness, reliability and privacy. This migration, however, introduces the challenge of operating within the stringent confines of resource constraints typical at the edge, including small form factors, low energy budgets and diminished memory and computational capacities. Axelera AI addresses these challenges through an innovative approach of performing digital computations within memory itself. This technique facilitates the realization of high-performance, energy-efficient and cost-effective computer vision capabilities at the thin and thick edge, extending the frontier of what is achievable with current technologies.
In this presentation, Verhoef unveils his company’s pioneering chip technology and demonstrates its capacity to deliver exceptional frames-per-second performance across a range of standard computer vision networks typical of applications in security, surveillance and the industrial sector. This shows that advanced computer vision can be accessible and efficient, even at the very edge of our technological ecosystem.

21. Accelerating progress
• A desktop PC purchased in 1989 came equipped with
a 20 megabyte hard disk
• A USB external hard disk purchased in 2009, for
roughly the same amount of money (taking account
of inflation), was 2 terabytes in size
• That’s an increase of 100,000 times over 20 years
• Broadly equivalent to hard disks doubling in size,
without the price increasing, every 14.5 months over
that 20 year period

36. The Singularity (S^)
• We can no longer predict what happens next
• Computers / robots more intelligent than humans
• More generally intelligent than humans
• They can create even better computers / robots
• => Rapid, recursive, self-improvement cycle…
• Super-intelligent systems could solve many existing
deep human problems (disease, death, economics…)
• But first we have to get there… (perhaps 15-30 years)

39. The Humanity+ vision
• Humanity is on the brink of a momentous leap forwards
in evolution
– If we are wise and strong, we can make that leap
• This evolutionary transformation takes advantage of
rapidly improving technology
– Technology that arises from positive virtuous cycles and
unprecedented interdisciplinary convergence
– This technology will grant us awesome powers: the power to
capture ample energy from the Sun, the atom, and beyond; the
power to synthesise new materials to rejuvenate our
environment and fuel our societies; the power to realise an
unparalleled abundance of health, security, vigour, vitality,
creativity, knowledge, and experience

40. The Humanity+ vision (continued)
• But technology is a two-edged sword
– Alongside the potential for transcendent improvement lies the
potential for existential destruction
– We face fearsome perils of environmental catastrophe,
unstoppable new plagues and pathogens, rampant
unemployment and alienation, the collapse of world financial
markets, pervasive systems of unresponsive computers and
moronically intelligent robots that act in frustration to human
desires, horrific new weaponry that could easily fall into the
wrong hands and precipitate Armageddon, and intensive
mechanisms for draconian surveillance and thought control
• Continuing the status quo is not an option
– Any quest for sustainability of current lifestyles is a delusion. We
cannot stay still, and we cannot retreat. The only way to survive
is radical enhancement – moving from Humanity to Humanity+
