2. SWACCH BHARAT ABHIYAAN
Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, or Clean India Mission, is
a nationwide cleanliness campaign initiated by the
Government of India. Launched by Prime Minister
Narendra Modi on October 2, 2014, which coincided
with the 145th birth anniversary of Mahatma
Gandhi, the campaign aims to achieve the vision of a
clean India by addressing various sanitation and
cleanliness issues.
3. What is the keynotes of SBA?
1 Elimination of open defecation: One of the primary goals is to promote
the construction of toilets in rural and urban areas, thereby eliminating
the practice of open defecation which poses health hazards and
environmental pollution.
2 Solid waste management: Encouraging proper waste disposal methods
and promoting recycling and reuse to manage solid waste in cities and
villages effectively.
3 Awareness and behavior change: Creating awareness among people
about the importance of cleanliness, hygiene, and sanitation practices
through campaigns, workshops, and educational programs.

infrastructure such as community and public
toilets, waste management facilities, and
promoting sustainable sanitation practices.

institutions at various levels, including local
