Simulation technologies are becoming more and more important when it comes to development processes, process optimization,
mechanical strength examination, accident analysis and lots of other technical questions. To deal with these
application areas, the Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) is increasingly gaining importance for figuring out solutions
for technical problems.
The weyer group has been deploying the
CFD technology for years in order to deal
with a variety of ways of looking at a
problem. This procedure has proven to be
a very good alternative since the
experimental research of complex fluid
flows requires a highly sophisticated
technique and is sometimes downright
impossible to execute.

Process Capability Analysis in Single and Multiple Batch Manufacturing SystemsDr. Amarjeet Singh
Any process, manufacturing or service in operations
is subject to constant variation. The underlying principle of
variation is any process / rather all processes are subject to
changes occurring due to the magical 5 M’s that make the
basis of operations management namely: Man, Machines,
Materials, Methods and Money.
This paper discusses about establishment of a
capable process, by means of stabilizing the 5 M’s and
studying the variations which occur by going deeply into the
well known term used in operations: RCA : Root Cause
Analysis.
Experimental Plans and Intensive Numerical Aided DesignIJERA Editor
This paper deals with new methods to optimize design and subsequent phases, notably in SMEs specialized in manufacturing. SMEs use numerical simulation to verify that the design meets the expectations of the specification, following the current traditional process: CAD model, simulation of its behavior, changes in the CAD model... This process suffers from a number of drawbacks: no overall multi-criteria vision, use of CAD software, by nature "constructive, not considering the overall objectives (even with integration of the parameters or with considering the downstream phases). The research centre DINCCS led several projects, relying on industrial cases to consider more efficient approaches. It is proposed to reverse this process by making intensive simulations, based on trade knowledge, before design itself. In order to plan the great number of simulations, automatically designed plan of experiences are used. We discuss the application of this approach to intensive simulations. The stakes are crucial for SMEs, particularly manufacturing ones. Using numerical simulation (optimization) intensively, before setting the CAD model, they can get unexpected gains (mass, better use of the means of manufacture...). The results show that the proposed approach is a very promising new way of computer aided design..

Small scale industries produce certain products depending on the type of industry they have established. If these small scale industries decide to become medium scale certain changes have to be incorporated in plant layout to meet certain requirements. Certain changes include change in layout design, introducing new machines and equipments in the industry in order to produce new component .To implement these changes in the company we have to get information regarding the new component the company would produce based on this information we have design new plant layout. The purpose of this project is to plan a suitable plant layout which could meet company requirement. To design a new plant layout we are using Delmia as the simulation software. DELMIA Production System Simulation allows the process planner to validate the manufacturing system dynamically. Product flow and operation time, as well as scheduled maintenance and random equipment failure events, are simulated to help the planner understand how they will impact the system’s capacity. Process planners can determine if changes to the system are needed to achieve the desired production demands.

Since 2010 the weyer group has been offering and successfully providing a range of engineering, qualification and advisory
services for the customers in the pharmaceutical as well as in the fine-chemicals industry in Switzerland, Germany and
France, who are planning or constructing production or developing plants for active ingredients or final dosage forms.
In the early 1990s the weyer-group received
its first orders from pharmaceutical
industry customers. At that time it was
primarily about projects and consultancy
referring to waste air purification, storage
of hazardous liquids and explosion prevention
and protection.
Burnings in industrial estates cause damage amounting to billions every year. If people are hurt or injured, investigations
will always be implemented in order to find out whether the management has arranged in advance for all necessary precautionary
measures concerning fire protection. Even if the tangible assets are normally subject to insurance cover, the
effects on business, like e.g. a long-term loss in production with all its consequences are often underestimated.

Tank farms are of great significance in supplying both industry and the national economy in its entirety. On account of the
quality of the stored products, the equipment and safety matters are subject to very high conditions and requirements.
The weyer group is able to produce a long-standing and extended treasure trove of experience with regard to the planning
of new tank farms and also for their redesigning. Our clientele comprises businesses from the petroleum industry and the
oil industry, the pharmaceutical industry and the fine chemicals industry as well as solvent traders and waste disposal companies.
Hence, we are familiar at the best with the wide range of demands on engineering and advisory service.
The professional execution of a system analysis is an indispensable act when it comes to the professional construction of
pipe systems in plant engineering, and in many cases it is even demanded by law. The weyer group is in the position to
look back on many years of experience in the field of stress calculation for pipe systems. By means of a documented engineering
procedure which is strictly conforming to the law, an organizational fault with regard to plant safety and environmental
protection can be excluded at an early stage of the ongoing planning phase. For this purpose, state-of-the-art
software tools like CAESAR II, which is specifically tailored to execute pipe stress calculations, as well as various 3D-design
software tools will be deployed. The advantages of a system analysis are, among other things, lower capital costs and
reduced maintenance expenses, a safe operating of your plant and an optimized design of all joining pipes.
Documented evidence with regard to the adherence to the required safety integrity level (SIL) within the scope of the
safety life cycle has to be delivered in order to proof that the imple-mentation of safety systems (Safety Instrumented
Systems SIS) in the process industry has been executed according to professional standards. When carrying out the hazard
analysis and the risk assessment, safety functions (Safety Instrumented Function SIF) will be estab-lished and evaluated
against a required SIL. The achievable SIL both for systematic defaults and for random failures can be established for each
safety function being carried out by means of a safety system. The established SIL has to be in conformity with or better
than the required SIL. The engineers of the weyer group will establish the respective SIL-level of the plant, taking the data
delivered by the manufacturers as the calculation base.
Prevention of water pollution | weyer specialweyer gruppe
There is no life without water. Hence, the prevention of water pollution both for drinking water and for processing water
as well as the preservation of aquatic ecological systems is a central duty of environment protection. Plant-related prevention
of water pollution, i.e. the safe handling of substances harmful to water both in the industrial and in the commercial
sphere is a core competence of the weyer group.
The small city of Basel is very well known within the pharmaceutical and the fine chemistry industries – far beyond
Switzerland’s and Europe’s boarders. Those industry branches have a 200 years history in the town at the southern Rhine, and the weyer group has participated in it for over 20 years.
Internationally speaking, the weyer group has been active for over 30 years for industrial clients, among others of the chemical, petrochemical, petroleum, logistics and waste disposal sectors. Furthermore, the group has been providing engineering and consulting services for the pharmaceutical ndustry in the areas of plant safety and environment
protection, as well as design and construction of tank farms for solvents and other dangerous liquids. Already since the end of the eighties, the weyer group has successfully executed projects for clients in...
An essential part of the overall expenses of industrial enterprises are the logistics costs – and taking into account the
trend in energy prices this is certainly on the increase. Combined with the demands of service quality this results in substantial spheres of activity and optimisation for many enterprises.
Compliance means the abidance by law and observance of regulations within an enterprise. According to §§ 9, 30 and
130 of the German Administrative Offences Act, the management of a company has to make sure that the activities of
the company are in conformity with the law. If transactions do not comply with the duties in terms of organisation,
selection, instruction and control, severe penalties might be imposed on the enterprise, the company management and
the executive personnel as well.
In line with a concept to prevent incidents the legislative body requires operators of systems
subject to statutory order on hazardous incidents to prepare a systematic analysis
of hazard sources for the systems concerned.
An established method governmentally acknowledged is the application of a HAZOP
study (Hazard and Operability), in Germany also known as the PAAG procedure.
In accordance with a specified scheme a team assumes operating modes for the existing
or planned system which deviate from the nominal condition. The team also tests
how these operating modes can be developed, which consequences they could have
and which remedies are necessary, available or to be arranged.
For our clients, engineering services from the weyer group mean complete support during all project phases, from requirement-
oriented process development and the design of machinery and apparatus, to ensuring fulfilment of the statutory
requirements in respect of the construction and operation of the plant.
In particular, the public-authority management offered by the weyer group gives our clients the necessary planning security,
since possible cost items, e.g., from the field of plant safety, can be detected at an early stage.
Particularly in the early phase of a project, important decisions have to be made which have a considerable impact on
both later investment and the operating expenses of a process plant. By including the weyer group in this phase, it is
assured that, not only in terms of costs, but also of the project schedule, optimum general conditions for the client will
be met...

Enterprise Excellence is Inclusive Excellence.pdfKaiNexus
Enterprise excellence and inclusive excellence are closely linked, and real-world challenges have shown that both are essential to the success of any organization. To achieve enterprise excellence, organizations must focus on improving their operations and processes while creating an inclusive environment that engages everyone. In this interactive session, the facilitator will highlight commonly established business practices and how they limit our ability to engage everyone every day. More importantly, though, participants will likely gain increased awareness of what we can do differently to maximize enterprise excellence through deliberate inclusion.
What is Enterprise Excellence?
Enterprise Excellence is a holistic approach that's aimed at achieving world-class performance across all aspects of the organization.
What might I learn?
A way to engage all in creating Inclusive Excellence. Lessons from the US military and their parallels to the story of Harry Potter. How belt systems and CI teams can destroy inclusive practices. How leadership language invites people to the party. There are three things leaders can do to engage everyone every day: maximizing psychological safety to create environments where folks learn, contribute, and challenge the status quo.
Who might benefit? Anyone and everyone leading folks from the shop floor to top floor.

application areas, the Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) is increasingly gaining importance for figuring out solutions
for technical problems.
The weyer group has been deploying the
CFD technology for years in order to deal
with a variety of ways of looking at a
problem. This procedure has proven to be
a very good alternative since the
experimental research of complex fluid
flows requires a highly sophisticated
technique and is sometimes downright
impossible to execute.
The experts of the weyer group have a rich
faculty of know-how and a high degree of
expertise at their command in order to
deploy this state-of-the-art simulation
technology. The professional application
of the numerical simulation has become
an indispensable instrument for the
acceleration of development processes,
for the optimization of procedures and
products and for the verification of safety
measurements.
It furthermore allows for a significant
reduction of development risks. Hence,
the CFD has become the standard tool
when it comes to finding ways of posing
fluidic questions and solving problems
related to mechanical strength properties.
Considering all these aspects, the weyer
group is in the position to support clients
from a great variety of lines of industry in
their processes to develop new products,
in their efforts to plan and optimize plants,
to execute accident analysis and to solve
problems related to mechanical strength.
The CFD-simulation is used in several
different application areas:
• Calculation of the line of flow,
the pressure decrease, the heat
transmission of gases and fluids.

nificant competitive edge towards your
competitors.
3 Quality improvement
The simulation allows for the detection of
weak points at prefabricated parts and ex-
isting components. Hence, points in need
of improvement like, e.g. turbulences in
components or dissolving processes inside
fluid flows can be detected. A correspond-
ing modification at the parts and compo-
nents can be executed immediately so that
their functioning will be optimized.
4 Gaining better insight
The simulations visualize, for example, se-
quences like velocity fields inside fluid
flows. They will put you in the position to
obtain a deeper insight into the decisive
parameters of your system. This is of par-
ticular importance when it comes to
complex processes which, for technical
measurement reasons, are often hardly ac-
cessible.

Benefits from simulations
À Saving of costs
À Saving in time
À Quality improvement
À Gaining better insight
À Secure system operation
1 Saving of costs
At the early stage of the component design
you will be able to display various designs
so that a preselection can be carried out.
By means of the simulation the advantages
among the possible alternatives will
become recognizable. The time and effort
for the construction of prototypes or the
execution of sophisticated experiments
can be significantly reduced and even be
cancelled respectively.
2 Saving in time
The simulations will already be carried out
during the development phase. The prop-
erties of your component can thus be ana-
lyzed in each stage of its development.
Herewith, the development time will be
shortened, since the modeling and simula-
tion, based on CAD-data, can be executed
faster than the repeated construction of
new models and prototypes. The product
cycles will continuously become shorter
and so, this gain in time saving for the

nologies you will be able to describe pre-
cisely the impacts of potential accidents.
These results enable you to develop corre-
sponding counter measures so that a secure
system operation and a proper procedural
process can be guaranteed. In doing so, it
doesn´t matter whether it is the dispersion
of toxic gases, a fire, explosion effects or
questions concerning structural dynamics:
We will provide you with the appropriate
solution for any of these problems.
