Julian Watts - The Value of Standards and why GIS and AM practitioners should...GeoEnable Limited
Standards provide recognized best practices and guidelines but exceeding standards can provide greater value. Three sentences:
Standards establish a baseline for asset management practices, processes, and systems but exceeding standards through proactive maintenance, predictive analytics, and integrated organization-wide systems allows organizations to optimize performance, manage risks, and achieve excellence in asset management. Integrating building information modeling (BIM) and asset management through the project lifecycle can improve long-term performance and reduce whole-life costs beyond what standards alone require. Adopting open standards for spatial data and common data protocols facilitates sharing of information and integration across organizations for better decision-making.

Victorian period in England from 1837 to 1901 during the reign of Queen Victoria. It was a period of huge population growth, technological advances, and social changes brought on by the Industrial Revolution. There were emerging scientific views like Darwin's theory of evolution that challenged traditional worldviews. The growing gap between social classes was exacerbated by poor working conditions. Famous Victorian writers included the Bronte sisters, Charles Dickens, Robert Browning, and William Wordsworth. Dickens wrote vivid novels about the struggle between right and wrong that drew on his own experiences of poverty as a child. The Victorians helped establish the concept of childhood through efforts to end child labor and introduce education, spurring a new genre of children's literature.

This document summarizes NetApp's journey implementing self-service analytics. It began in 2009 by building an enterprise data warehouse and BI platform, which enabled a single source of truth but did not support discovery or self-service. In 2013, NetApp deployed Tableau and built a tier 2 data warehouse to enable self-service analytics with data mashing and faster turnaround. Today NetApp uses a dual environment with a top-down traditional BI approach for enterprise reporting and a bottom-up self-service model enabling departments to answer new questions quickly. The key is establishing governance over the self-service model through community involvement and processes for content certification, data governance, and publishing guidelines.

5 Keys to Improved IT Operation ManagementPrecisely
IT Operations Management (ITOM) is more important than ever in today’s fast-changing world. It helps IT to ensure availability, maintenance, and deployment of hardware, software, services, and processes. Companies who rely on ServiceNow have invested in solving this challenge and trying to get a comprehensive view of their entire infrastructure.
However, for many of them, there is one crucial area of missing data. ServiceNow does not natively discover critical infrastructure resources from IBM Power Systems and IBM Z mainframes. This can leave them vulnerable to blind spots, their ITOM initiatives can go awry, and periods of downtime can be extended.
Join us for this webinar we will cover:
· The five key ITOM enablers to gain complete visibility into all areas of the infrastructure.
· How Ironstream for ServiceNow can fill the gaps in ITOM coverage
· How Discovery, Service Mapping, and Event Management work together to deliver ITOM success
Getting Data Quality Right
High quality data is important for organizational success, but achieving good data quality requires a programmatic approach. Data quality challenges are often the root cause of IT and business failures. To improve, organizations need to take a systems thinking approach, understand data issues over time, and not underestimate the role of culture. Developing repeatable data quality capabilities and expertise can help organizations identify problems, determine causes, and prevent future issues. Effective data quality engineering provides a framework for utilizing data to support business strategy and goals.
This document discusses disaster recovery best practices from Plan B Disaster Recovery Ltd. It emphasizes the importance of testing disaster recovery plans regularly, as most failures occur during initial tests. It also recommends automating recovery plans as much as possible and prioritizing a fast recovery time. The document discusses how Plan B's pre-recovery service can provide a tested hot standby system to enable recovery within minutes at a lower cost than traditional disaster recovery methods. It provides two case studies where Plan B's pre-recovery system successfully enabled fast recovery and minimal business disruption following an IT disaster.

Digital transformation promises benefits like reduced costs and improved efficiency, but many organizations struggle to realize these benefits due to issues with technology adoption, inconsistent processes, and a lack of trust in new systems. To truly achieve results, digital transformation requires changes to both technology and behaviors within an organization's performance culture. Leaders must clearly communicate the strategy, define roles and responsibilities, and provide change management support to address issues like alarm fatigue or fears about new technologies. When implemented successfully through partnerships between technology and behaviors, digital transformation can deliver impressive cost savings through improvements like reduced project cycle times, increased uptime, and coordinated asset management.
DRILLING EFFICIENCY AND RELIABILITY – JOURNEY FROM BIG DATA TO AUTOMATIONiQHub
This document discusses improving drilling efficiency and reliability through automation. It outlines current strategies for automation focused on maximizing rate of penetration (ROP) and identifies alternative strategies focused on holistic cycle time improvement. The alternative approach involves benchmarking, analyzing drilling parameters, fast learning through big data and machine learning to predict trends and enable automation once cycle times are consistent. The goal of automation should be reducing operational costs by improving cycle time, not just maximizing ROP.

HijackLoader Evolution: Interactive Process HollowingDonato Onofri
CrowdStrike researchers have identified a HijackLoader (aka IDAT Loader) sample that employs sophisticated evasion techniques to enhance the complexity of the threat. HijackLoader, an increasingly popular tool among adversaries for deploying additional payloads and tooling, continues to evolve as its developers experiment and enhance its capabilities.
In their analysis of a recent HijackLoader sample, CrowdStrike researchers discovered new techniques designed to increase the defense evasion capabilities of the loader. The malware developer used a standard process hollowing technique coupled with an additional trigger that was activated by the parent process writing to a pipe. This new approach, called "Interactive Process Hollowing", has the potential to make defense evasion stealthier.

The inspiration for Tiers in a data centre comes originally from The Uptime Institute. And the general principles of the different Tier levels are given here.
However, whereas the Uptime Institute definition is more of an engineering philosophy, the TIA 942 gives a detailed and prescriptive list of design criteria to meet a particular Tier level. We will see examples of this throughout the course.
