DrupalCon 2012 focused on mobile, Drupal 8, and CSS preprocessors. Drupal powers over 1.5 million sites and 6.7% of the CMS market. Strengths include flexibility and theming, while weaknesses include a steep learning curve. Drupal is moving to a mobile-first approach in Drupal 8 with Symfony replacing parts of the core, HTML5 as default output, and a focus on responsive design. Views and view modes were discussed as ways to build layouts with less code by querying content and customizing displays.
