SE 2015 DevOps Risk Mitigation - Test Driven InfrastructureSchlomo Schapiro
DevOps has successfully conquered many IT departments and brought a new era of collaboration. With DevOps developers gain more control over the production environment and can do more on their own. Admins learn to code their infrastruture and to build delivery chains.
But what about the risk of allowing more people to bring changes into production? Advanced automation can also quickly propagate human error to all the platform. How to trust everybody with production level access?
Common wisdom has it that test efforts should be related to the risk of a change. However, the reality is different: Developers build elaborate automated test chains to test every single commit of their application. Admins regularly “test” changes on the live platform in production. But which change carries a higher risk of taking the live platform down?
What about the software that runs at the “lower levels” of your platform, e.g. systems automation, provisioning, proxy configuration, mail server configuration, database systems etc. An outage of any of those systems can have a financial impact that is as severe as a bug in the “main” software!
This talk gives a quick introduction into DevOps and continues to explore how test automation in operations and in infrastructure development helps to mitigate the risks associated with open collaboration between development and operations.
Based on recent developments at ImmobilienScout24 valuable lessons can be learned for every IT environment: How to to combine the goals of stable operations and quickly bringing changes into production through test automation and delivery chains.

The journey toward a self-service data platform at Netflix - sf 2019Karthik Murugesan
The Netflix data platform is a massive-scale, cloud-only suite of tools and technologies. It includes big data tech (Spark and Flink), enabling services (federated metadata management), and machine learning support. But with power comes complexity. Kurt Brown explains how Netflix is working toward an easier, "self-service" data platform without sacrificing any enabling capabilities.
stackconf 2021 | Building the first European open source Edge Computing platf...NETWAYS
Edge Computing is becoming increasingly popular nowadays thanks to the growing availability of cloud, bare-metal and 5G providers offering flexible and affordable access to edge resources around the globe. The idea is based on moving core computational processes and storage to distant locations that are closer to the entities they interact with, like end-users and IoT devices. The benefits come from improving network latency and user experience, reducing security risks, and minimizing data transfers to central cloud locations. Thanks to the €2.1M awarded in 2019 by the European Commission as part of the Horizon 2020 SME Instrument Program, OpenNebula has developed the first open source Edge Computing platform in Europe. This talk analyses the benefits and challenges associated with Edge Computing, introduces the “True Hybrid Cloud” concept, and explores how this new EU-funded Edge Computing platform contributes to consolidate Europe’s digital sovereignty by integrating other relevant European open source technologies and by providing future access to the GAIA-X federated infrastructure.

From Trickle to Flood with Kafka@ING (Filip Yonov & Timor Timuri, ING) Kafka ...confluent
Kafka at ING has a long history. It all started in 2014 when Kafka was introduced to support our use-cases for fraud detection. The following years saw Kafka growing until 2018 when it took the spotlight at ING as the #1 searched-for technology with an unprecedented adoption curve. Suddenly what was a small trickle of niche use-cases, became a flood of customers on-boarding for every imaginable usage pattern. Even more astonishing was that our single cluster configuration saw almost 700% load increase just in 2018. During the explosion our team was so busy with on-boarding, maintenance and ops that it wasn't clear whether we were supporting or sabotaging our long-term success. It was clear that we needed to challenge our view of how we used Kafka. We asked ourselves: given the demand, how can our clients easily manage their streams while not caring about scaling, clusters or technologies. How to provide Kafka to all 40 ING markets with a single experience regardless of country, app or use-case? To answer that we had a to undertake a paradigm shift - from a single-cluster on premise to multi-cluster hybrid cloud, from ops to self-service, from cluster-based to event-first architecture. In this talk we share our journey of how we completely re-imagined Kafka at ING while serving our clients at lightning speed. We would like to discuss our experience of running a single cluster with more than 1000 topics and show how we made Kafka truly self-service via our Streaming Marketplace. Last, but not least, how the past years of success with Kafka have given us the courage to go all-in on the event-first thinking and never think back, putting ING once again one step ahead. CiviCRM for Drupal Developers, Site Builders, and ThemersKevin Reynen
Developers, site builders, and themers who are already familiar with Drupal’s secret handshakes and special sauces may be reluctant to invest time learning how to accomplish similar tasks in CiviCRM, but there are some big advantages to using CiviCRM with Drupal over one of the Drupal native CRM projects or a commercial SaaS solution. This sessions will answer many of the How’s to making Drupal and CiviCRM work well together, but we’ll also get into the Why.
We are working on building Hybrid Cloud for research and development purpose. Our project goal is to realize managing not only Public Cloud but also Private Cloud by making operations even easier. Agile Infrastructure Automation Presentation to Wall Street Technology Associ...Alex Henthorn-Iwane
IT infrastructure is not terribly agile today, but its imperative that it become more so in order to help businesses accelerate their time to market and over agility. This presentation covers a number of key challenges in achieving IT infrastructure agility across traditional, virtual and public cloud, within networked environments, and as self-service that doesn't end up in infrastructure waste. The presentation then introduces four key best practices and then tells a little bit about Quali's automation software solutions that are used by hundreds of customers today for agile infrastructure automation.

Building clouds with apache cloudstack apache roadshow 2018ShapeBlue
Talk given at Apache Roadshow, FOSS Backstage, Berlin, June 2018
Apache CloudStack is open source software designed to deploy and manage large networks of virtual machines, as a highly available, highly scalable Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) cloud computing platform. This talk will give an introduction to the technology, its history and its architecture. It will look common use-cases (and some real production deployments) that are seen across both public and private cloud infrastructures and where CloudStack can be completed by other open source technologies.
The talk will also compare and contrast Apache Cloudstack with other IaaS platforms and why he thinks that the technology, combined with the Apache governance model will see CloudStack become the de-facto open source cloud platform. He will run a live demo of the software and talk about ways that people can get involved in the Apache CloudStack project.

Neuro-symbolic is not enough, we need neuro-*semantic*Frank van Harmelen
Neuro-symbolic (NeSy) AI is on the rise. However, simply machine learning on just any symbolic structure is not sufficient to really harvest the gains of NeSy. These will only be gained when the symbolic structures have an actual semantics. I give an operational definition of semantics as “predictable inference”.
All of this illustrated with link prediction over knowledge graphs, but the argument is general.
JMeter webinar - integration with InfluxDB and GrafanaRTTS
Watch this recorded webinar about real-time monitoring of application performance. See how to integrate Apache JMeter, the open-source leader in performance testing, with InfluxDB, the open-source time-series database, and Grafana, the open-source analytics and visualization application.

"Impact of front-end architecture on development cost", Viktor TurskyiFwdays
I have heard many times that architecture is not important for the front-end. Also, many times I have seen how developers implement features on the front-end just following the standard rules for a framework and think that this is enough to successfully launch the project, and then the project fails. How to prevent this and what approach to choose? I have launched dozens of complex projects and during the talk we will analyze which approaches have worked for me and which have not.
