• The success of drug therapy depends upon the correct route of
administration to enable the drug to reach the target site at the earliest.
• Several routes of drug administration are available & each one confers
some advantages &disadvantages.
• Deciding factors for choosing needed route of drug administration depends
upon:
a) The urgency to start the treatment
b) Physical status of patients
c) Severity of disease condition
d) Patient compliance

• Ex: tablets, capsules, syrups etc.
• Advantages
• Non-invasive, convenient, economical, safe
• Disadvantages:
• Not the choice in emergency condition
