Value Stream Map (VSM) the current state.
Select a product family, VSM current process, and calculate metrics. (MEASURE)
Analyze the current state VSM.
Review sources of waste and identify opportunities for improvement.
(ANALYZE)
Develop a future state vision.
Use Lean concepts like visual management, continuous flow,
error proofing, and standardized work. (IMPROVE)

10. Benefits of the VSM Process
“We See together, we learn together, we grow together”
•
Accurate understanding of what actually is occurring in the process and
what steps are adding or directly impacting Student Value along with which
ones are “wasteful”
•
The cross functional team ensures that required inputs/ outputs are received
and met
•
Increases understanding of cross department processes
•
Gets immediate buy-in to improvements
•
Reduces the need for extensive training

14. Measurement is Key to the LEAN Frog LSMS
All Key Process Outcomes, across at least four perspectives:
Measuring across

allows for the MOST
accurate view of how
your district is
performing, it’s ability
to continue to perform,
and where
improvements can be
made.
Lots of Tools…. All Centered on Learning to See… Value Stream Mapping… one of best… not only technically easy to learn, addresses change management issues.
The District Management System applies to both the instructional and non-instructional departments within the School System. Any procedure, form, and/or work instruction within the District Management System is not intended to replace the authorized School District Policy. While the intent of the School District Policy is to ensure that the School District operates in accordance with State and Federal Law, the intent of the District Management System is to provide detailed, standardized procedures and processes to ensure that Policy is met while the most prudent use of existing resources is made in order to provide an exceptional education for students. If in any instance there exists a conflict between the two sets of documents the School District Policy takes precedent and, once noted, the District Management System should be revised to eliminate aforementioned conflict.
