Seuss was still able to make reading fun and enjoyable to children. Along the lines of his illustrations, Theodor Geisel was among the first authors to put
illustrations equal with text, enabling his readers to follow the action and the story simultaneously. True to his eccentric character and unique
perspective, Seuss basically drew things as he saw them. Surprisingly, he had strict guidelines on how to write children's books. There was only one
illustration per page and nothing could describe anything pictured. That way, children can work out the story from the illustrations. In addition, his

Being able to relate to something or someone is the best thing that can happen to us. Reading a book can bring us memories of how we used to be
and how we felt when we first read something we were able to relate too. In most books we are able to relate to the characters. Not only are we able
to relate ourselves to a character and now that we are not the only ones like that but we can relate the other characters with our surroundings. In the book

similar to the children. They both do not know how to have fun but the children do not do any action they just sit unlike the Things they make a mess.
The cat describes Thing 1 and Thing 2 by telling the fish, "They are tame. Oh so tame! They have come here to play..." (Seuss 37). The Things turn out
not to be so disciplined nor tame they were a total disaster. They were like little monsters running around the house destroying everything near them, not
knowing how to domestically have fun. Even though they were illustrated as a child they had different qualities that distinguished them from a human.
Since they are designated as Things it indicates that they are not human (MacDonald 115). Also the narrator–the boy –described them as some wild

Theodor Seuss Geisel, or as he is better known as, Dr. Seuss, was a great American writer best known for authoring many popular children's books.
His books, which include such classics as The Cat in the Hat, The Lorax, and How the Grinch stole Christmas, all had strong commercial success and
stood out from others at the time due to his new simplified vocabulary style in his writings. Dr. Seuss's unique writing technique influenced by his own
mother, helped children throughout America learn how to read with its energizing, repetitive, and innovative style, which was something new and
refreshing at the time.

He was inspired to write his first children's book when he was on a ship headed to Europe with his wife during a storm breakout. While on the
ship, Seuss heard the choppy waters hitting against the ship and noticed a particular rhythm that the waters were making. As he listened to the
waters, he would think of words to match the rhythm. A couple of days later, he started to come up with a story with the words he was thinking of
on the ship. The book, And to Think That I Saw It on Mulberry Street, had taken him awhile to get published, but when it did it sold millions of

Dr. Seuss or Theodor Seuss Gressel was a children's writer. He wrote many award–winning books that made him one of the greatest American writers
in history. Along with writing books, he wrote quotes, created sculptures, and some of his books have been turned into movies. For example, How The
Grinch Stole Christmas, The Lorax, and the most famous work of his, The Cat In The Hat. Throughout his life, he was a successful man, but had a few
obstacles to overcome.
On March 2, 1904, Theodor was born to two people named Theodor Robert Gressel also known as, Ted and Henrietta Seuss Gressel. He had two
older sisters, Marina and Henrietta. Henrietta died at age five from pneumonia. In 1909, Ted was appointed one of the board of the parks, which
was over 500 acres. In those 500 acres was the Springfield zoo. Whenever he went to the zoo, which was frequently, he would take supplies to
draw with, and draw the animals in odd ways that made them look nothing like they were. Henrietta talked him into hanging them on his bedroom
wall. Ted and Henrietta were also master brewers in Springfield, Massachusetts. After Henrietta died in 1919, he and Ted built the biggest brewery
in New England, which made over three hundred thousand buckets a day. He went to public school his whole life and graduated from Springfield
High in 1921. He attended Dartmouth College and graduated in 1925. While he was in college, he was chief editor. He decided to try Oxford but he

Adaptations
At our school district, we strive to meet the instructional needs of Joshua by adapting our lessons. These adaptations will help Joshua comprehend
the lessons, focus and content. Joshua will spend at least 95% of his time in my general education classroom. He has qualified for assistance through
our Title one reading program. He will also visit Mrs. Brown our Learning support teacher to help reinforce lesson content. Joshua struggles with
reading in general; to have him succeed in class I will offer strategies for Joshua to acquire. Through our team effort we will help make sure Joshua has
success in reading comprehension.
Prior to our lesson I will explain why Earth day is observed and the book for the lesson "The Lorax" by Dr. Seuss. Our Title one Reading teacher Mrs.
Rupert will introduce this book to Joshua before we read and discussion it in class. She will introduce a technique called TRAP. TRAP is a
wonderful technique to aid students with reading comprehension. T, the think step asks Joshua to use prior knowledge and define the purpose for
the reading. If Joshua can relate to the reading in some way the reading material will gain a purpose. The R refers to reading a paragraph. Joshua will
read a paragraph with Mrs. Rupert. A, is the ask step of gathering details. What is the main idea and important details of the paragraph? Lastly P refers
to using paraphrasing or having Joshua put the main idea in his own words.

Geisel was only 11 years old when the Lusitania was sunk and America joined World War I (Pease). During World War One Geisel was bullied by
other children because he was German and Germany was seen as the cause of the war (Peterson 17). This is believed to be the reason that Geisel
became so involved in equality movements later on in life. After the war, his father's brewery was shut down because of new prohibition laws
(Peterson 17). After World War One, Germany had rebuilt its military under the rule of Adolf Hitler and began conquering Europe while America sat
on the sidelines and watched. Geisel was much older now and wanted to help by making pro–war propaganda for the United States Treasury and war
department board ("Dr. Seuss"). He even made training videos for the U.S. military to use during the war ("Dr. Seuss"). Geisel was an
interventionist, meaning he wanted to join the war which was represented in his political cartoons (Fea). One of his main targets for his cartoons
was Charles Lindbergh, the leader of a political group that wanted to remain neutral called the isolationists (Peterson 43). During the war, Geisel
continued his cartoons in order to keep America motivated by showing them what would happen if Hitler conquered Europe (Peterson 42). These
cartoons played a major role in maintaining America's motivation in the war (Peterson 42). This war effort was an eye opener for Geisel as he even
said "I had no great causes or interests in social issues until Hitler" which may have led to him to put some political ideas in his books. One of those
books being The Butter Battle Book which corresponds with the Cold War between the U.S. and the Soviet Union (Hamilton and Jones "The Butter
