Turtles have protective shells and leathery skin, can grow over six feet long, and come in various shapes and sizes. They lay eggs and leave their young to hatch on their own while they search for food. Turtles live on every continent except Antarctica, can prefer water or land, and have diverse diets as herbivores or carnivores that may include other animals. To survive, turtles create safe nests for their eggs and babies on beaches or elsewhere until the young hatch and go their separate ways.

Giraffes can grow up to 14-19 feet tall, with their legs being up to 6 feet and their necks even longer. An alien trying to adapt to Earth would need things like hands and claws to move and grab prey, defenses against predators and the elements, and teeth to eat. If a crocodile evolved hands and feet, it would likely starve because it could no longer catch prey or swim efficiently. While humans can jump higher on planets with lower gravity, creating a single perfect habitat for 10 very different animals from cheetahs to fish would be impossible, but they may be able to adapt to a environment with varied landscapes and resources.

Gerbils spend the hottest part of the day in underground burrows to escape the heat, while darkling beetles catch drops of moisture on their legs and lift them into their mouths. Rattlesnakes eat small animals like mice and chipmunks, and can survive for over a year without eating, while camels can go up to ten months without drinking water and get moisture from desert plants.

Hermit crabs do not have their own shells and live in empty snail shells for protection. They hatch from eggs laid in the ocean and live there until they resemble adults. Hermit crabs have soft abdomens so they seek shelter in shells to avoid predators. They use one claw to seal themselves in the shell and the other to eat. Hermit crabs are crustaceans that molt their exoskeletons to grow, and they live in groups both in the ocean and on land.

Adaptation allows animals and plants to survive in their habitats by changing to suit the climate. Camels are well-adapted to desert life by storing water in their stomachs and humps and having wide feet to walk on sand and long eyelashes to protect their eyes from sun and sand. Penguins are adapted to swim efficiently by having streamlined bodies. Habitats provide the resources animals need, like deserts for camels and oceans for sharks.

It is difficult to find the exact population numbers for sea turtles because male and young sea turtles do not return to shore once they hatch and reach the ocean, which makes it hard to keep track of them. However, all around the world countries have set up turtle sanctuaries. Take the Maldives, five of the seven species of sea turtles can be with the two most common being the Hawksbill and the Green Leatherback.

Frogs are a diverse group of mostly carnivorous amphibians found around bodies of fresh water worldwide except Antarctica. They are cold-blooded animals whose temperature matches their surroundings. Frog reproduction begins when females lay thousands of jelly-coated eggs in water. The eggs hatch into tadpoles, which have gills and tails. Over several weeks, tadpoles grow legs and lungs through metamorphosis and emerge from the water as juvenile frogs.

Desert animals have developed various adaptations to survive in the harsh desert climate with high heat and little water. Their bodies and behaviors allow them to go long periods without water, getting it instead from the food they eat or by metabolizing seeds. Many desert animals are nocturnal, seeking shade during the day to avoid the hottest temperatures. Common desert animals like camels, kangaroo rats, red kangaroos, desert larks and elf owls have specialized physical and behavioral traits for living in the desert.
