Since Joe Biden took office in 2021, bold steps have been taken to address climate change and reengage in international diplomacy. But on December 19, 2021, Senator Manchin torpedoed Biden’s signature $1.9 trillion Build Back Better bill. So, what’s next? What can be done now to heighten urgency around the climate change crisis and accelerate transformation to a clean energy future in the U.S.? Learn how bold leadership and increased grassroots efforts can make a difference.
The Green New Deal is designed to convert the grey economy into an “environmentally sound, economically viable and socially responsible” sustainable economy. Yet, the Green New Deal has not been so welcomed due to its “unrealistic” socio-economic program and it is left to be seen whether its realization will be achieved.
A summary of the climate change protection movement in the U.S. and action needed to further reduce greenhouse gasses and create a clean energy future. Progress has been inadequate. The war against the climate change crisis demands higher priority and more urgent attention by U.S. policy makers, law makers, the business community and citizens.

Climate change’s impacts are already being felt and will only worsen without drastic action. A carbon price reflects the true price of fossil fuels and is the type of aggressive measure needed to transition a carbon-free economy. Unless we begin to take steps to reduce the amount of carbon emission the world’s climate will not be sustainable within this century.
The implementation of the Energy Innovation and Carbon Dividend Bill, HR 753, if passed has the possibility of being the first act of policy the create a market driven solution to move away from fossil fuel by pricing carbon.

Progressive companies around the world are developing products and services that will revolutionise industries and deliver transformative change for society and our planet. These solutions are driving new business growth while significantly reducing emissions towards a low-carbon, sustainable future for all.
Accelerating and scaling up implementation across sectors and borders, however, will require a higher level of collaboration than we have ever seen before, between business, government, and NGOs. The Business for the Environment (B4E) COP17 Dialogue aims to facilitate this, bringing stakeholders together to forge new partnerships and take real action on climate change. Leading the way and powering ahead for a clean industrial revolution.

This presentation explores how climate change alters the pursuit of economic development: the transformation of poor economies and their people into prosperous ones.
This is hardly the first attempt to reconcile the climate agenda with that of economic development. The United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals are significant for defining a dual agenda where development targets for people and planet sit alongside each other in a unifying framework.1 Much commentary focuses on the compatibility of the two agendas. A radical and specious view pits progress on climate change and economic development as strict substitutes and calls for no less than the unravelling of economic development to save the planet.2 Cooler heads point instead to their complementarity: the critical role of economic development in supporting adaptation and the recognition that investments in the green transition will propel economies rather than sacrifice living standards.3
In contrast, this essay takes as its starting point that the goals and salience of economic development are immutable. The question posed here is how the quest for economic development changes in a world gripped by a changing climate. The essay argues that climate change will force three major changes: a reappraisal of the causes of and prospects for development, the rebirth of the economics of transition, and a reformulation of the problem development is trying to solve. In a final section, it asks what these changes could mean for international security and for the community of national and global actors who set policy and strategy in this field.

The United States should rejoin The Paris Agreement
INTRODUCTION
I. Attention Getter: Do you want your future children to suffer from our inability to
take care of our environment? According to the United Nations Framework
Convention on Climate Change (unfccc), the Paris Agreement is a pact made by
countries within this convention to fight against climate change through investments
in sustainability and certain requirements such as a global cap on carbon emissions.
Our country, the United States was one of the countries that signed on until President
Trump withdrew us.
II. Specific Purpose Statement: Today I will persuade you that President Trump should
rejoin the Paris Agreement.
III. Identification of Opposition Statement (Fair Hearing): Some of you may argue
that the Paris Agreement is a waste of America’s money, but the effects of Global
Warming are becoming increasingly more life threatening, and if America officially
rejected the agreement, then the economy of other countries would be damaged.
IV. Significance: This issue applies to everyone around the world. If we ignore the
effects of Climate Change, then our home will continue to become less and less
inhabitable.
V. Credibility: I am extremely passionate about Global Climate Change and the efforts
to reduce its harmful effects and I have participated in a program that taught me the
many ways Global Warming has become an issue. I have also done extensive
research on the consequences that will rise from the withdrawal from the agreement.
VI. Preview Statement: Today we will look at the potential problems that our
withdrawal will cause. Then I will propose a solution.
MAJOR TRANSITION: First, let me explain the problems created by the United States’ lack
of participation in the effort to fight against Climate Change.
BODY
I. Main Point: A withdraw will inevitably reduce the United States’ efforts to remain an
environmentally sustainable country.
A. Environmental issues
1. The reason this is such an important issue is because of the dangers of our
unsustainable habits as a country.
a. These habits include burning fossil fuels, deforestation, inefficient
waste management, and overproduction of non-biodegradable
products.
b. The continuous burning of fossil fuels emits a variety of greenhouse
gases. These gases make their way to the Earth’s atmosphere where
they act as a “blanket” around the Earth because of their heat retaining
properties.
ii. One of the greenhouse gases, CO2, which is the
primary focus of the Paris Agreement, is recycled by
nature through the ability of plants to absorb it.
a) You may be thinking, “well that’s good because we
have a lot of trees,” but this is no longer the case due to
mass deforestation for products such as palm oil,
rubber, and crop land. Instead of the CO2 being
absorbed by the plants, it is added to ...

In a May 9, 2024 paper, Juri Opitz from the University of Zurich, along with Shira Wein and Nathan Schneider form Georgetown University, discussed the importance of linguistic expertise in natural language processing (NLP) in an era dominated by large language models (LLMs).
The authors explained that while machine translation (MT) previously relied heavily on linguists, the landscape has shifted. “Linguistics is no longer front and center in the way we build NLP systems,” they said. With the emergence of LLMs, which can generate fluent text without the need for specialized modules to handle grammar or semantic coherence, the need for linguistic expertise in NLP is being questioned.

Document- "Talking Points for Governor Christine Whitman" 2.12.02
1. Talking Points for Governor Christine Todd Whitman
Administrator of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency
at the
White House Climate Change Event
Washington, D.C.
February 12, 2002
* Thank youL Secretary Abraham for that introduction.
* I'm pleased to be here to highlight the important efforts that are underway within the
federal goverrnment and the private sector to address the serious issue of global climate
change.
* Last February, President Bush announced an aggressive climate change policy designed
to reduce the greenhouse gas intensity of the U.S. economy by 18% over the next ten
years.
* When the President made this commitment, he knew it would take building strong
partnerships to achieve our aim, and the partnerships we are announcing today are exactly
what he had in mind.
* The leaders of American industry are answering the President's call to work with the
federal government and take voluntary actions to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions,
* I commend you for your initiative and leadership on this issue.
* I would like to take a moment to highlight the several partnerships in which EPA plays a
direct role.
* You know there are some who would have us believe that addressing greenhouse gas
emissions is solely about carbon dioxide, but there are in fact six greenhouse gases of
concern.
* Perfluorocarbons havelI0,000 times the global warming impact of carbon dioxide, and for
sulfur hexafluoride that number rises to 20,000.
* That's why it's imperative we not fall victim to tunnel vision when addressing this issue.
We must act in a comprehensive manner that focuses on all the various emissions that
contribute to global climate change.
* EPA has worked closely with the Semiconductor Industry Association and Aluminum
Association over the past few years to reduce perfluorocarbon emissions, with both
industries setting aggressive reduction goals.
2. * Our partners in the U.S. magnesium industry have agreed to completely~
sulfur hexafluoride emissions by the end of 2010.
* Of course, reducing carbon dioxide emissions is still integral to our efforts on this front,
and EPA is working closely with the Portland Cement Association to reduce their carbon
dioxide emissions by 10 percent per ton of cement product produced from a 1990
baseline by 2020.
* All of these industry sector partnerships are helping us make bold strides towards
improving our environment.
* Unfortunately, there is a perception by many that if environmental programs aren't
mandated then they aren't real - but I'm here to tell you that these voluntary partnerships
are not only real, they are getting real results.
* You don't have to look any further than the Energy Star program to see the type of real
results I'm talking about.
* In 2001 alone, Americans - with the help of ENTERGY STAR - saved 36 billion dollars
on their energy bills, saved enough energy to power 10 million homes, and reduced
greenhouse gas emissions equivalent to taking 12 million cars off the road.
* These are real results.
* Through voluntary programs such as the Landfill Methane Outreach Program and the
Coalbed Methane Outreach Program, we have had success in reducing the emissions of
methane, another harmful greenhouse gas.
* Methane emissions today are actually 5 percent lower than they were in 1990, and are
expected to remain at this level through 2020, even as our economy continues to grow.
* Again, real results.
* We are reaching our goals and improving our environment, while at the same time
allowing our economy to grow mid our quality of life to endure.
* We aren't just talking about what to do about global climate change, we are moving
forward quickly and aggressively and actually doing something about it.
* This Administration is fully committed to working with our nation's industries and
building successful partnerships with them as we pursue our environmental goals.
* The dedication and decision of the industries here today to play an integral role in our
efforts to reduce greenhouse gases will stand as a noteworthy legacy of environmental
3. stewardship.
* And by continuing our work together we can ensure a clean and healthy
environment for our generation and future generations to come.
* Thank you.
