We built a disk-based parallel graph system, Graspan, that uses a novel edge-pair centric computation model to compute dynamic transitive closures on very large program graphs.
We implement context-sensitive pointer/alias and dataflow analyses on Graspan. An evaluation of these analyses on large codebases such as Linux shows that their Graspan implementations scale to millions of lines of code and are much simpler than their original implementations.

Todays journey will hopefully provide a good educational introduction to many key document and paperless process management concepts, use cases and integrating those processes to your ERP system.
We will provide a brief introduction to HelpSystems and the HelpSystems document management solutions that help businesses implement paperless process.
Then we will review some key ERP bottleneck areas that might be good places to start when you begin thinking about automating your paper based processes.

Let’s talk about some of the common manufacturing and distribution business use cases for paperless process.
Businesses generate all kinds of documents that need signatures applied.
From sales proposals and orders to bills of lading and invoices and more, the one common denominator is that signatures need to be captured and the resulting documents need to be filed.
Then associated business systems need to be updated based on those signatures.
Proof of Delivery, loan and insurance documents and health care records are among the many documents that need to get signed that can have a great impact on the business.
For missing signed proofs of delivery, businesses cannot bill for merchandise and may not get paid.
For unsigned loan documents, a new homeowner may not be able to close on their mortgage.
And for unsigned healthcare records, a patient may not receive a service or procedure they desperately need.
Electronic signature software has made these processes much easier to manage.
Businesses are also slowed down by having to comply with government regulations.
Over the past several years digital signatures have become widely accepted in all industries as a way to quickly sign documents.
This has paved the way for business process improvement by implementing digital signature capture software to streamline the capture and dissemination of signed documents.

Why is it so hard to capture document signatures ?
In todays world many businesses still manually print paperwork for signing.
Often multiple copies are printed, signed and then manually re-filed in paper filing cabinets.
In some scenarios Many people many need to sign documents.
When approvers are located in remote office locations this can compound the problem because documents need to be printed, shipped, signed and shipped again.
With all this manual process, lots of costs are incurred for shipping costs, employee labor and wait times when delivery drivers need to sign multiple pages on a bill of lading document which could be hundreds of pages long.

Production signing processes. (There are many products geared for one-off document signing, but few are geared for high volume document production environments which is where SignHere excels.
We’re going to cover some use cases in today that can be quickly automated with SignHere to improve processes and save time and money.
Signing documents with SignHere is as easy as 1.2.3.
Your daily business processes can simply:
Generate PC documents or IBM i spool files as PDF or TIFF documents for signing.
Automated processes can then be used to launch documents for signing at the press of a button from a browser based or windows application or function key if you happen to be using 5250 applications.
After signing, documents can be Printed if needed and then emailed, and filed automatically to network folders, Sharepoint, or WebDocs.
By implementing an integrated electronic signing process, chances of losing or misfiling are greatly reduced.
Also think of the ability for signed documents to be immediately available across the company.
The benefits are many and the only drawback is that you might miss the opportunity to visit the filing room on a regular basis to get your daily exercise.
Often delivery drivers have to take printed paperwork with them to a customer site to capture their signatures.
Imagine a process where in the morning a driver pushes a button to load up their tablet with the days orders in PDF format.
Then they go out in the field for their daily delivery rounds where WiFi/MiFi/Cell connectivity may be spotty.
At each stop they capture a signature on the appropriate shipping documents.
And if all pages need signing, they only need to make the signer enter their signature one time.
At lunch time, end of day or whenever connectivity is available, signed documents are synced back to the corporate ERP system and automatically filed in PDF format.
And the delivery info in the ERP system is also updated with signature status so invoices can be generated right away and a customer copy of the signed documents can be emailed or printed for mailing if paper is required.
This is a use case that any company with delivery drivers or employees who work in remote locations around the property where online access may be spotty can still get their documents signed.
When truck drivers pull up to a loading dock, load their shipments and are ready to go, often they are delayed by paperwork issues.
There may be someone standing in line ahead of them reviewing and signing a 100 page Bill of Lading document.
Or the printer may be out of paper so they have to wait until the paper is flowing once again to print multiple copies of a Bill of Lading for signing.
What if the process could be as easy as quickly reviewing the bill of lading and then signing all pages with a single signature and heading out the door so your important deliveries can be completed on time.

What kind of devices does Signhere support ?
In many cases with a small tablet, a process can be used to load up documents for signing on a device. Then the device can be taken offline and documents signed throughout the day and synced back to the network later as we discussed in our use case scenarios.
Signhere supports several methods of capturing signatures.
Windows desktop, laptop or standalone Windows tablets are supported.
Today’s touch screen Windows devices allow anybody to sign a document using SignHere and their finger.
Topaz signature capture devices can also be used,
However with touch screen devices available now, Topaz devices are really no longer required and the cost of a small fully functional touch screen Windows device allows existing Windows apps to be loaded on the device as well.
Standalone touch screen monitors or integrated all in one PCs with touch screen monitors are also supported as well.
Winbook and other vendors now offer full Windows 8.1 and 10 tablets from 7” at $59 to 10” ~$179-199. And Microsoft has the new surface devices for around $500.
We’ve seen the prices for these devices come down dramatically over the past few years dramatically reducing the potential capital expenditure if a company needs to purchase many devices for drivers or remote workers.
One example of this. I talked to a customer recently who had been looking at paying $1000 per device for 80 devices for a total expenditure of $80,000. With $200 devices available that expenditure can be reduced to $16,000 making it easier to get budget approved because the devices can be used for more than just signature capture.

This is an overview of our integrated document signature capture process.
An automated signature capture process can usually go like this:
A user or background job can generate an IBM i spool file document or PC applications can generate PDF or TIFF documents that need to be signed.
In many cases a customer may use our iForms electronic forms product to first generate a form document from an IBMi spool file or database for signing.
Then a function key can be pressed from within a 5250 screen or a PC application may generate a PDF document that needs to be signed.
After the document gets generated it can be automatically launched for signing in SignHere.
We have various methods to seamlessly launch interactive signing such as calling a CL command from IBMi or calling the SignHere application from a PC command line.
After signing, a document can be automatically printed, emailed or sent over to be archived in a network directory, or document management system such as Sharepoint or WebDocs.
This is a great way to create a seamless, integrated signature capture process for your critical production documents such as order, shipments, bills of lading, HR documents and more.
SignHere also has office addins for Word and Excel that can be used for signing documents.
Users can also print from any desktop or laptop application to a PDF for automatic signing using one of the many free or low cost PDF print drivers available. Windows 10 also has print to PDF built-in.
After signing, a final document can be printed, emailed or sent over to be archived in a network directory, or document management system such as Sharepoint or WebDocs.
Integrated PC application document signing is a great way to eliminate steps and streamline capture processes without any changes to your existing applications.
Pretty much any application that can print can generate documents quickly for signing.
We would be remiss is we didn’t mention that SignHere can be integrated with most of the existing HelpSystems products.
SEQUEL or Showcase are used to generate reports and documents. PDFs can be generated and routed for signatures electronically.
Capture signatures on PowerTech or Skyview audit reports that can be routed for electronic signature capture.
Robot, Halcyon, Bytware, CCSS and system generated reports from any of our IBM i or non-i software can be integrated into a SignHere document signing process. These could be job checklists, job reports and any of the output generated as reports.
AutoMate, our Windows process automation software can generate, burst and stage documents for signing or capture to WebDocs or Sharepoint for filing..
iForms can be used to generate business forms and documents such as invoices, bills of lading, proofs of delivery and more for signature capture processes.

How easy is it to integrate signature capture into an existing paperwork process ?
When getting started with your initial proof of concept for usage, you can start capturing signatures by simply installing the SignHere software and opening any existing PDF or TIFF document. We also have an output queue interface where IBMi users can select an existing spool file for signing by simply clicking to select the report to be signed.
Can I sign all pages of a document all at once ?
Yes, a single signature can be applied to all pages of a document at once. Many times when shipments are picked up by delivery drivers they may have large bill of lading documents where every page needs to be signed. SignHere can optionally apply signatures to all pages of a document from a single signature to save drivers time and help them get on the road.
Can I place other information on a document rather than just a signature ?
Signed documents often have other items that need to be filled in such as check boxes to answer questions or possibly a note added to denote broken merchandise or some other comment. SignHere fully supports check boxes and additional text annotations as well as automated date stamping when a signature is added to a document to help insure document information scan be completed without printing. Then and only then is the final copy saved, filed, printed (if needed) and archived. Users can also design where the information lands on the document page to insure each document type that needs to be signed automatically drops information in the correct location on the document.
Can I sign plain IBM i spool file documents ?
Yes, no form overlays are required. As we mentioned earlier any spool file can be converted to a PDF document via CPYSPLF on V7R1 and above and with other methods such as our native PDF converters or other 3rd party PDF creation software you may have already in place.
Can signing be launched from another application ?
Yes signature capture can be launched by calling the SignHere EXE from a PC command line or via our native CL command processes.
Can I update a table in my ERP system after a signature is captured on a document ?
Yes, using the exit points in SignHere you can implement any additional processing such as calling a web service, updating a database or anything else a. Net application can do. You can also integrate singhere to existing RPG and CL processes which covers pretty much anything on IBMi.
Can I customize the signature capture process ?
SignHere has exit points that can be created in .Net on the PC or CL and RPG can be used to integrate with IBMi applications.
Can I do web based signing of documents ?
If you need to implement a web based signature capture process, you will probably want to consider taking a look at our web forms software. Web forms allows companies to take a paper based form process and turn it into an online form where the document can be sent out over the web for signing. Can I generate a document, call a signature capture process and file a signed document all in one action?
Yes, if you want the process to be very simple and simply pop up a signature dialog and then automatically save, file and print the signed document if needed. You can make the process that simple.
Can I sign documents from a PC application?
Yes, as mentioned you can sign documents from pretty much any PC application that generates a PDF or TIFF document or that can print to a printer driver. Users can print a document to PDF and automatically call it up for signing.
Are electronically signed documents legal ?
Yes absolutely. We talked about it in our slide at the beginning. If you visit helpsystems.com/rjs you can also download our whitepaper titled: Electronic Signatures – Are They Legal ?
Why not use Adobe Acrobat or other signing software ?
Adobe acrobat, DocuSign and other applications of this nature are typically used for one-off signing of documents. While it’s convenient to sign documents using these type applications for one-off captures, they aren’t very efficient when trying to create a high volume signing process that is integrated to a core ERP or other business application. The goal of SignHere is to make the signing process as transparent as possible when capturing signatures. Generate document, push button to sign, auto-file and print as needed. Our mantra is to help people who use our software make it feel as if it’s integrated to their daily applications so they can focus on getting work done, not on spending 1-5 minutes getting a document signed using another one-off document tool.
What about iOS or Android document signing ?
Our main option for mobile signing centers around our WebForms software which we talked about earlier. With webforms a web based form is created and a URL can be sent out to a vendor, employee or customer for completing data entry and signing. Then the data and signatures are stored with the form. And if needed we can still generated PDF output documents. WebForms can be completed and signed using any desktop PC, laptop or mobile phone or tablet including iOS and Android devices.
If mobile device users need to get PDF documents signed, we recommend using the available mobile device signing software (such as Adobe Acrobat) which is usually free or low cost. Since mobile document apps are already integrated to email, dropbox, google drive, onedrive or other file sharing applications to send out documents for signing, our software can be used to stage the documents for distribution to the mobile devices and for capturing the signed documents as they are returned via email or one of the file sharing application. After a document is received we can integrate it into an automated business process that can capture the document, store it and kick off additional business processes as we talked about with SignHere. It doesn’t make sense for us to provide a true mobile signing app when there are apps already freely available. In these scenarios we simply handle the documents as they are received and automate the back-end processes.
