Ankle Sprain Case Study—AvicennaLaser.com

Complex regional pain syndrome
Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS) is a debilitating painful condition affecting a limb. It is associated with sensory, motor, autonomic, skin and bone abnormalities. The leading symptom is pain, which is often associated with limb dysfunction and psychological distress. CRPS arises after an injury to a limb and is classified into two types depending on whether there is a major nerve lesion present. Management involves a multidisciplinary approach with four pillars - pain relief through medications, procedures, physical and vocational therapy, and psychological therapy. Early diagnosis and treatment are important to help patients.

It introduces five key questions to guide a situation analysis: 1) How well is the present strategy working? 2) What are the company's strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats? 3) Are prices and costs competitive? 4) Is the company stronger or weaker than rivals? 5) What issues need attention? It then provides frameworks and approaches to answer each question, including assessing strategy performance, conducting a SWOT analysis, using value chain analysis and benchmarking to evaluate costs, and comparing the company to rivals on key success factors.
High performance fibres
High performance fibers are fibers that provide higher strength and functionality compared to commodity fibers like nylon and polyester. They have unique properties such as high tensile strength, heat resistance, and chemical resistance that make them suitable for demanding applications. Examples of high performance fibers include aramid fibers like Kevlar and Nomex, which have very high tensile strength and heat resistance. These fibers are made through solution polymerization or interfacial polymerization of monomers like paraphenylene diamine and terephthaloyl chloride. The resulting polymers have aromatic rings in their backbone, providing properties like strength, stiffness, and thermal and chemical resistance.

Manual therapy techniques were found to be the most effective treatment for musculoskeletal pain compared to other treatments like NSAIDs, joint injections, topical applicants, TENS, and acupuncture. Patients receiving manual therapy saw pain relief after 2 weeks of treatment and less reoccurrence of pain compared to other groups. Manual therapy was found to resolve the underlying causes of musculoskeletal pain rather than just temporarily reducing symptoms like other treatments.

Myofascial trigger points are hypersensitive areas within muscles that can cause pain or referred pain elsewhere. Self-myofascial release using foam rollers helps to break up adhesions in the fascia and elongate and soften connective tissues, providing pain relief and improved flexibility and movement. Specific foam rolling techniques are demonstrated to target key muscle groups like the hips, quads, hamstrings, and low back.

Myofascial pain syndrome
Myofascial pain syndrome is characterized by painful muscle trigger points that cause pain in the affected muscle and potentially other referred pain in distant areas. Trigger points form due to muscle injury or overuse and maintain a contracted knot within the muscle via a positive feedback loop. Examination involves identifying a taut band within the muscle and locating the most tender point, which may elicit a local twitch response when pressed. Diagnosis is based on identifying a trigger point and reproducing the patient's pain. Treatment involves education, medications, and non-pharmacological therapies like exercise, massage, and dry needling of trigger points.

Client: DJO Global Location: Frenchs Forest Time Scale: 5 weeks Area: 800 m2 Client Profile: DJO Global enables people to live their lives to the fullest by providing intelligent medical devices and services. Scope of Works: Construct a new open plan office environment including training and breakout facilities that would highlight DJO Global’s brand. Works Included: ▲ New Workstations for both administration and sales staff including seating and storage. ▲ Creation of a new training room complete with an integrated audio visual solution. ▲ Installation of high speed cat 6 communication cabling and a built in access control system. ▲ Construction of a new reception area to create a welcoming environment for visitors. ▲ Installation of wall art throughout the fitout to showcase DJO Global’s brand to visitors and create an aesthetically pleasing atmosphere for employees. Challenges: Our schedule had to be completed in a time frame that had been compressed from 6 to 5 weeks. The look and feel needed to comply to DJO Global’s brand. Solution: Through careful planning and utilising the flexibility of our team of tradesmen we were able to complete the project by the promised date. Working closely with the Marketing Manager ensured the fitout complied with DJO Global’s brand identity. The fitout looks fantastic, the colour combinations between the workstations and the inspirational wall graphics are superb. Our new office reflects our brand to all our staff and visitors.
