Apply your skills
Use divisibility rules to help you solve the following problems.
1. Frances has a collection of 672 stamps. She wants to place the stamps in 2
envelopes .Can she place the same number of stamps in each envelope?
2. The number of books in Karla’s collection is divisible by 2,5 and 10. She has
more than 11 books and fewer than 25 books. How many books does Karla
have?

1. Frances has a collection of 672 stamps. She wants to place the stamps in 2
envelopes .Can she place the same number of stamps in each envelope?
Yes. Using the divisibility rule for 2, Frances can place the same number
of stamps in each envelope (2 envelopes). Because the last digit of the number
of stamps (672) is 2.

have?
Using divisibility rules for 2, 5, and 10 and the statement that the number
of books is more than 11 and fewer than 25 books we will know how many
books does Karla have. From 12 to 24, we can tell that number 20 is the only
number divisible to 2, 5 and 10. Thus, Karla has 20 books.
Is this number divisible by 2, 5, and 10?
12 2 only 19 no
13 no 20 2, 5, and 10
14 2 only 21 no
15 5 only 22 2 only
16 2 only 23 no
17 no 24 2 only
18 2 only
From 12 to 24, we can tell that number 20 is the only number divisible to 2, 5 and 10. Thus,
Karla has 20 books.
