DEFINITION:
This is supervisory and administrative work of considerable difficulty including direct supervision of police
line functions in Field Operations.
Work involves assisting in command of a patrol district composed of one or more squads of police officers.
Work involves responsibility for performance of Field Operations patrol functions including preventive
patrol, law enforcement, and investigative duties. Work includes supervision of police field and patrol
duties through one or more subordinate supervisors. Work includes responsibility for scheduling and
assignment of subordinate personnel, to evaluate subordinate performance, and to assist subordinate
personnel in directing and controlling the activities of their subordinates. Work requires the exercise of a
moderate degree of initiative and independent judgment. Work may require considerable public contact.
Work is reviewed through direct observation of results and through appraisal of written and oral reports
concerning activities and assignments.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Assists in commanding district personnel in the delivery of police patrol service.
Plans, assigns, supervises, and evaluates the work of district subordinates including sergeants and patrol
officers.
Determines District scheduling, including schedules for in-service training, court and special assignments.
Manages District facilities to include budget and expenditures for maintenance and operations.
Assists in determining crime patterns.
Coordinates special projects.
Supervises inspection procedures.
Attends CAC, Community Watch, and other community meetings and events.
Assists in training and instructing subordinates through daily roll call.
Coordinates and assigns district personnel for squad, district, and in-service training.

Assists in conducting investigations of any allegations or complaints of police misconduct by subordinate

Operates a law enforcement vehicle during both the day and night under a variety of conditions and speeds.
