The researcher designed novel mixed-mode fracture specimens and conducted finite element modeling to analyze stress intensity factors. Specimen fabrication issues caused delays. Preliminary tension-torsion testing on one specimen failed due to cracks initiating at grip adapters. A revised plan involves qualitative testing of additional aluminum or steel specimens to look for effects of Mode III loading on Mode I-II fracture behavior and transition. Open questions also exist regarding driving forces and mixed-mode loading conditions.

In this webinar, Mr. Ziegler will cover many aspects of Fracture Toughness, including theory, applications, specifications, testing methods, and the effects of various stresses, strains and environmental conditions on your materials.
Piping Stress Analysis of a Hypothetical Oil Refinery Plant Having Separate S...IJSRD
In this study, a hypothetical simulation model is analyzed under varying uncertainty conditions; the key features of overlapping and functional interaction affect the performance measures of development time and effort. Findings indicate that, first and foremost, whether or not overlapping occurs, increasing functional interaction eventually leads to a sound system. A selective overview of group & individual process behaviors of a combined suction & discharge cycles of a hypothetical oil refinery plant is suggested. The pipe material is Carbon fiber reinforced plastic which is chosen because of its excellent length to weight ratio & it serves as an integral part the system which involves tank piping. This model uses psychologically legitimate & theoretically grounded models for time & decision rules. The results of preliminary simulation experiments suggest that the model is sensitive to structural & pay- off density & precisely replicates ideal free distributions. Pipe network models allow the modeling of storage tanks in which the working fluid (here, Naphtha) surface is inconsistent with inflow & outflow. Stress analysis of CFRP material shows that the maximum stresses are within allowable material strength. From the trials, it can be accomplished that, with proper design parameters, CFRP can take the design load similar to that of steel & other alloys
This presentation mainly deals with shape memory alloys which come in a category of smart materials, its description, its properties and an experimental procedure.
There are currently three approaches to characterize and quantify the fatigue behaviour of composite laminates that are, Fatigue Life Modelling and Prediction, Phenomenological and Empirical Modelling, and Progressive Damage Modelling. These approaches constitute the evolution that is driven by ever expanding industrial needs and academic pursuit and assisted by perpetual technological advances in experimentation capabilities. In the first approach of Fatigue Life Modelling and Prediction the individual material degradation mechanisms are not directly concerned with, rather the determination of stress-life relationships based on experimental data is concerned with and the failure criteria or the residual strength determination is established based on these relationships, for the specific composite laminate.
