Discuss botulism and the different types of toxins produced by the different strains
Solution
Botulism is a fatal disease caused by toxins produced by bacteria Clostridium botulinum. This
disease is transmitted or the major source if this disease is food and is type of food poisobing.
This bacteria is an anaerobic pathogen, therefore the food which is packed with anaerobic
conditions can make its contamination, like canned food.
The toxins produced by Clostridium botulinum is called botulinum toxin or BTX. Six
phylogenetically distinct strains of Clostridium botulinum are producing seven serotypically
distinct botulinum toxins. Among these, human disease is caused by types A,B,E and F.
