Georgia McLaughlin produced a music video for her media studies coursework. The video was for the song "So Far (It's Alright)" by 1975. It featured a fragmented narrative that leaves the audience questioning what happens rather than providing resolution. This challenges conventions of clear storylines in indie music videos. Stylistically, it followed conventions like using black and white footage and casual outfits, but did not include a music performance or shots of the artist, unlike many indie music videos. The video was edited in a way that cut between narratives quickly and used shaky handheld camerawork to involve the audience, representing a personalized spin on typical music video conventions and styles.
Study on Suppressive Effect of Anthropogenic Stress and Regulation of Hantavi...Abdullah Mahmud-Al-Rafat
Hantaviruses are primarily rodent-borne pathogens, which have received considerable attention in recent decades due to their high mortality rate. In order to find the causes of emergence of hantavirus-associated diseases anthropogenic changes are a priority. These include urbanization, deforestation, noise pollution, light pollution and electromagnetic fields, all of which have been shown to profoundly affect rodent physiology and immunology. These transformations act as chronic stressors to rodents and cause elevated concentrations of glucocorticoids, which are a major class of immunosuppressive hormone. Glucocorticoids are responsible for altering the immune tolerance of rodents, thereby rendering them susceptible to infection. A perspective of these events affords an insight into the extent to which anthropogenic stressors are responsible for the emergence and persistence of hantaviruses in rodents. Glucocorticoids induce T regulatory (Treg) lymphocytes to reduce inflammatory and antiviral responses and to activate regulatory responses, principally through production of the cytokines interleukin-10 and transforming growth factor-β to support viral persistence. It is concluded that in order to develop a low-cost intervention strategy consideration should be given to a systemic approach to therapy of hantavirus infection. This would target both a reduction of anthropogenic stressors and a greater understanding of host-parasite interactions.

The document summarizes Pathfinder International's Community and Clinical Action for Postpartum Hemorrhage Plus (CCA-PPH+) model for preventing maternal mortality from postpartum hemorrhage (PPH). The model aims to strengthen the continuum of care from community to facility level through community awareness campaigns, training community health workers and facilities. A key component is the non-pneumatic anti-shock garment (Life Wrap) used to stabilize women with PPH and shock before transfer to facilities for treatment. Evaluations found the full CCA-PPH+ model more effectively reduced PPH cases and mortality than any single intervention such as the Life Wrap alone.

While most healthcare leaders believe existing models are sustainable, they expect major changes to systems in the next 5 years. There is a disconnect between perceived need for change at the organizational versus system level. Leaders see integration as critical to improved sustainability but efforts focus more on transactional than transformative changes. Many believe care is structured for organizations, not patients, and patients are not actively engaged in their care despite evidence that engaged patients have better outcomes at lower costs.
Samantha Jones, Director of New Models of Care at NHS England, appealed to the National Primary Care Network for support in implementing new models of care outlined in the NHS Five Year Forward View. The document discusses the rationale for reforming health professions education and systems for health using an ICF framework. It argues this could ultimately result in personalized, predictive healthcare through the use of big data and patient-driven data obtained by utilizing an ICF paradigm. This reform seeks to move towards community-based, holistic care with shared decision-making and reduce institutionalized silos. It is dependent on technology and utilizing the ICF framework could contribute to reaching health equity goals by strengthening systems for universal healthcare coverage.
This document summarizes a report on improving staff engagement in the NHS. It finds that only 27% of nursing staff feel engaged in their work, despite engagement being a priority for most NHS employers. The report identifies four key factors that enable staff engagement: organizational integrity, employee voice, engaged managers, and a clear strategy. It recommends practices like training managers in people skills, providing career development opportunities, and addressing staff feedback. The document also discusses how the Walton Centre NHS Foundation Trust promotes engagement through initiatives like staff summits and support for a strong employee organization. Experts say engaged staff directly improve patient care and outcomes.
- Access to safe and affordable surgical care is lacking for 5 billion people globally, especially in low and middle income countries. An estimated 16.9 million deaths in 2010 could have been prevented with access to surgery.
- India performs only 6 million of the required 26 million annual general surgeries. There is a severe shortage of surgical specialists in India, with only 65,000 specialists available compared to a need for over 600,000.
- Increasing postgraduate medical seats and training doctors in district hospitals could help address the shortage of specialists in India and improve access to essential surgeries.

This report explores the significance of border towns and spaces for strengthening responses to young people on the move. In particular it explores the linkages of young people to local service centres with the aim of further developing service, protection, and support strategies for migrant children in border areas across the region. The report is based on a small-scale fieldwork study in the border towns of Chipata and Katete in Zambia conducted in July 2023. Border towns and spaces provide a rich source of information about issues related to the informal or irregular movement of young people across borders, including smuggling and trafficking. They can help build a picture of the nature and scope of the type of movement young migrants undertake and also the forms of protection available to them. Border towns and spaces also provide a lens through which we can better understand the vulnerabilities of young people on the move and, critically, the strategies they use to navigate challenges and access support.
The findings in this report highlight some of the key factors shaping the experiences and vulnerabilities of young people on the move – particularly their proximity to border spaces and how this affects the risks that they face. The report describes strategies that young people on the move employ to remain below the radar of visibility to state and non-state actors due to fear of arrest, detention, and deportation while also trying to keep themselves safe and access support in border towns. These strategies of (in)visibility provide a way to protect themselves yet at the same time also heighten some of the risks young people face as their vulnerabilities are not always recognised by those who could offer support.
In this report we show that the realities and challenges of life and migration in this region and in Zambia need to be better understood for support to be strengthened and tuned to meet the specific needs of young people on the move. This includes understanding the role of state and non-state stakeholders, the impact of laws and policies and, critically, the experiences of the young people themselves. We provide recommendations for immediate action, recommendations for programming to support young people on the move in the two towns that would reduce risk for young people in this area, and recommendations for longer term policy advocacy.

1. Press release 29th
April 2015
Profession must set expectations high, says WCPT President
The physical therapy profession should set its expectations high as it faces the future, said
WCPT President Marilyn Moffat, addressing the WCPT General Meeting as it opened in
Singapore.
“We all have a responsibility to make the world better for those we serve,” she said. The World
Confederation for Physical Therapy has proved itself “strong and durable” and a potent force
for physical therapy around the world.
But the profession faces many challenges, said Marilyn Moffat, who steps down as WCPT
President this year after an eight-year term. Patterns of disease and traditional models of
service delivery are changing. Physical therapists in many parts of the world are challenged to
provide quality services in the face of limited resources and under pressure to provide more for
less.
“It is essential that physical therapists promote the expansion of our services,” she said. She
added that physical therapists in countries with limited resources had devised very innovative
ways of delivering services and had much to teach others.
The WCPT General Meeting, from 29th April to 1st May, precedes the WCPT Congress. There
are representatives from 74 WCPT member organisations all over the world participating.
Marilyn Moffat gave her prescription for the profession’s way forward:
• re-affirm “our deep sense of commitment” to patients and clients
• face problems collectively – with developed nations gaining knowledge and skills from those
who serve rural and underserved communities
• establish exchange programmes but be sensitive to “brain drain”
• expand the out-of-institution service delivery model
• weave prevention programmes into all that physical therapists do
• ensure functional outcome is the primary reason for service delivery
• use the communications technology available.
“We must be recognised as exercise experts with totally evidence-based interventions,” she
said.
