Based on "Respectable Sins" by Jerry Bridges, this lesson tackles the subject of being discontent with our circumstances. Specifically, this lesson addresses issues of physical disability and how to glorify God no matter your physical situation.
This document discusses the identity of Christians and what God says is true about them. It states that because of Christ's rescue, Christians are new creations of infinite worth who are deeply loved, completely forgiven, fully pleasing, and totally accepted by God. It also says that nothing can make God love Christians more or less. The document encourages accepting what God says as truth and living it daily, rather than believing lies about one's identity being based on performance or others' opinions.

Living From the Core of Our Being, Letting Go of Legitimacy Propsrfochler
Slides for a talk given by Susan and Russ Fochler at Blazing Fire Church September 20, 2014. The audio is available at http://blazingfire.podbean.com Using personal experience, scripture, and insight about ways we try to "prove" our legitimacy; Susan and Russ talk about finding freedom in God's love to live from our original selves - from the core of our being.
This document summarizes a book about spiritual revolution and living according to God's kingdom rather than human kingdoms. It discusses how people get caught up in asserting their own will through relationships, work, parenting, and past trauma. True spiritual maturity is measured by one's willingness to trust God and let him lead them to become loving and life-giving to others. God's kingdom offers a better way to live through an intimate relationship with him and others.
This document discusses having faith in God. It explains that we learn about God from family and others who teach us to show our faith through daily actions like praying and obeying parents. Having faith means depending on and trusting in God's greater power because he loves us. Faith also means accepting what we don't understand and trusting that God will help us through difficult times. Maintaining faith means working hard and following God's commandments while letting God guide our choices in life. Even when prayers aren't answered, we should not lose hope and keep our faith as God has a better plan.

This document discusses Step 10 of a recovery program and the importance of daily self-examination. It explains that Step 10 involves taking a daily personal inventory, evaluating both positive and negative aspects of the day, and promptly admitting when one is wrong. It encourages keeping a daily journal for a week to identify patterns and areas for growth, and sharing the journal with a sponsor to develop an action plan for overcoming issues. Maintaining a daily journal is presented as a healthy habit that can help sustain long-term recovery.
Having finished the series following Jesus' teaching in Luke we are taking a one week look at the issue of healing and refreshing ourselves of what God has in store for us. Richard lays out a fresh model for seeing healing develop in our church life based on the 'Healing on the Streets' example. Listen out for the illustration of the Lollipop Lady:)
This document discusses divorce and finding comfort through the gospel of Jesus Christ. It begins by acknowledging that while marriage troubles can sometimes be overcome, divorce is sometimes inevitable. It then provides statistics on divorce rates. It discusses what the scriptures say about marriage and divorce. It outlines how divorce affects children and families. It expresses that through following gospel principles like faith, repentance, and seeking personal revelation, individuals can find hope, healing, and comfort during and after divorce. Lastly, it shares the story of one woman who found purpose and joy again after a difficult divorce by applying gospel teachings.
This document discusses how to love God and others through faith, hope and love. It argues that loving God involves three actions: releasing our lives to God by surrendering control, relying on God by trusting his response will make us better even if not happier, and relating to God by deepening our relationship with him through attention and letting go. Loving others involves expressing faith through love by focusing on others' needs and sharing the hope we have in Christ. The greatest of these is love.
This document discusses self-control and how to regain it. It provides biblical passages about self-control and the importance of building "the wall of self-control." It lists triggers that can lead to a lack of self-control like hunger, anger, loneliness, and tiredness. To regain self-control, one should: depend on Jesus, acknowledge issues, forget the past, talk back to feelings, believe change is possible, make oneself accountable, and avoid temptation. Maintaining self-control is important for leadership and living a godly life.
This document outlines several hindrances to arising and shining, including lack of persistence, passion, and familiarity with God. It emphasizes the importance of persistence in pursuing one's dreams and calling despite obstacles. Familiarity with God can breed contempt and cause one to take Him for granted. Additional hindrances mentioned are laziness/slothfulness, a negative mindset, not letting go of the past, and flaws in one's character. Overcoming these hindrances requires diligence, focusing one's passion, maintaining an appropriate fear and excitement about God, and transforming negative thought patterns.
The document discusses confronting the reality of evil and suffering. It examines Jesus' reflection on evil and suffering, noting that he responded quickly, stayed focused, and stayed personal. It suggests responding to evil and suffering by relying on the Lord, resisting growing numb, and remembering that Jesus has overcome. Finally, it encourages finding peace in God and taking courage, as he can bring good out of evil.
The document discusses how human beings can fall if a stronger force collides with them that is not based on principled purpose. It states that the strongest force is the power of love, and immature human beings can fall if influenced by unprincipled love. It emphasizes that God commanded Adam and Eve to maintain absolute sexual purity until marriage, and if they had obeyed this commandment they would have stood as God's equals.

This document provides an overview and introduction to an online Bible study series on dealing with difficult emotions. The series aims to teach how to embrace God's power through the Holy Spirit to overcome anxiety, anger, depression, frustration, and feelings of powerlessness. The introduction focuses on anger, distinguishing between righteous and unrighteous anger. It provides biblical examples and practical tips for controlling anger, including developing listening skills, being slow to speak, understanding other perspectives, and considering consequences before reacting. Participants are encouraged to reflect on passages about anger and discuss how to allow the Holy Spirit's power over their own anger.
Few skills are as important as knowing how to forgive well in a world filling faster up with things that offend. Learn what forgiveness is and isn't, the power of forgiveness, the process and the practice of forgiveness. Thank God we can forgive with His help!
1) The document discusses how, like a parent teaching a child to ride a bike, God is with us and helps us through challenges on our spiritual journey, ensuring we are not alone.
2) It highlights a bible verse, Philippians 2:13, that says God is working in us to fulfill his purposes, giving hope to those struggling with addiction that God, not their own strength, will help them overcome.
3) The conclusion reiterates that readers should not be afraid of failure because God is guiding and upholding them through the power of his spirit.
This document outlines principles for building redemptive relationships in order to bring others to Christ. It discusses that God wants a relationship with humanity and that soulwinning, or bringing others to faith, helps bring them into God's kingdom. It defines atonement as reconciliation with God and soulwinning as "horizontal love." It provides six principles for building redemptive relationships: be proactive, refuse masks, identify common ground, demonstrate God's love, acknowledge feelings and fears, and expect God to use you. The overall message is that relationships are important for fulfilling God's mission and bringing others to faith.
Having a sponsor and accountability partner is important for three main reasons: 1) it is biblically supported as iron sharpens iron, 2) it is a key part of recovery programs by keeping one honest and accountable, and 3) it guards against relapse by quickly confronting old behaviors. A sponsor should have completed their own recovery program, have a strong relationship with God, and be willing to listen without judgment while also providing confrontation when needed. The main differences between a sponsor and accountability partner are that a sponsor guides one through the full program and has completed it, while an accountability partner focuses more on specific accountability and can be at the same recovery level for encouragement.
The document discusses the importance of integrity in relationships with God and others. It emphasizes living consistently according to what one believes and avoiding hypocrisy. It provides examples of a lack of integrity in various relationships like marriage, family, work, church and relationships between genders. It stresses the importance of accountability, respect, trust and communication in building strong relationships based on integrity.
This document discusses worry and its effects. It defines worry as mental distress or agitation and traces the word back to its Old English origin meaning "to strangle or choke." It outlines the physical effects of worry such as increased heart rate, upset stomach, and sleep problems. Spiritually, worry can corrupt one's testimony by leading to mental and physical disorders. The document encourages bringing thoughts into obedience to Christ and cultivating dependence on God to experience perfect peace.
1) The document discusses how believing in God's intimate love for us allows us to see ourselves in a healthy way. It says God loves us unconditionally as his children, just as he loved Jesus.
2) It notes the importance of fathers teaching children about their self-worth and identity, something many lack due to absent fathers.
3) When securely grounded in God's love, we can withstand trials and criticism from others, rather than doubting ourselves. The love validates our identity and empowers us to persist despite failures.
Getting closer to allah through mandatory actsDina Aboubasha
Performing obligatory deeds is essential to truly believing in Allah. Several Quranic verses state that one must have faith and do righteous deeds. Faith requires believing in one's heart, professing with one's tongue, and performing good deeds with one's body. While deeds alone do not guarantee paradise, faith requires fulfilling mandatory duties like the five pillars of Islam, as well as avoiding evil acts. Fulfilling obligations purifies the heart before optional deeds bring one closer to Allah. True believers sincerely perform deeds for Allah's pleasure and become friends of Allah with purified intentions.
This document discusses how to approach a new season of life. It says that often something must die before God's new thing can emerge, and that our calling is unique. It then lists three natural defaults people fall into: using past failures as an excuse, making peace with present dysfunctions, and settling for temporary solutions instead of God's final destination. It quotes that faith never knows where it is being led but knows the one doing the leading. Faith is hearing God say "Go" without knowing where. True faith confidently trusts in God alone.
Paul closes out the book of Galatians by pointing out the motives of the legalists and contrasting his own. Paul points them over and over again to Jesus and the grace God has shown to sinful men and women.
The document discusses Paul's letters to the Galatians about the relationship between God's promise to Abraham and the Mosaic law. It makes four key points:
1) God's promise of salvation by faith preceded the giving of the law by centuries and could not be changed by the law.
2) The law was meant to reveal humanity's sinfulness and need for salvation but was never intended to provide life or justification.
3) Rather than contradicting God's promise, the law acted as a temporary guardian or tutor to guide people until Christ.
4) Only through faith in Christ, not obedience to the law, can people be made heirs of God's promise and freed from sin's power

In this lesson based on "Daniel: Standing Firm for God" by Gene Getz, we examine Daniel 2 and Nebuchadnezzar's dream of the giant statue. Daniel's response to the king's threat is prayer, and he gives God all the credit and glory for the answer to the king's dream.
This document discusses why people make foolish moral decisions and offers advice. It notes that people often think their situations are unique and they can handle moral temptations, but outcomes are predictable and regret usually follows a series of unwise choices. It advises fleeing temptation instead of flirting with moral lines, as sins like adultery have extreme consequences. Wise people establish conservative boundaries and make relationship decisions before facing compromising situations to avoid future regret.
1) Paul uses 6 arguments in Galatians 3-4 to prove that salvation is by grace alone, not works. The personal argument references their experience receiving the Holy Spirit when first believing.
2) Paul questions why they would abandon the Spirit if they began in the Spirit. He references scripture like Genesis 15:6 to show Abraham was justified by faith, not works.
3) Paul argues salvation is for Gentiles too, based on God's promise to Abraham in Genesis 12:3. He cites Habakkuk 2:4 to prove salvation is by faith, not works as outlined in the Law.
The document summarizes several examples from the Bible that are supported by modern scientific discoveries:
1) Passages from Psalms and Ecclesiastes describing ocean currents and wind patterns were validated by Matthew Maury in the 1800s when he mapped these currents, cutting down shipping times.
2) Acts advises against eating blood, supported by research finding blood is toxic.
3) The story of Jonah being swallowed by a whale is plausible given sperm whales' ability to ingest large objects through their throat and stomach.
Joshua gives his last instructions to the nation of Israel. They must choose who they will serve, God or the false gods of the nations they have conquered.
This is an old lesson that was requested by a member of my youth group. It is a list of the names of God in the Old Testament, where they are found, and what they mean.
Based on Respectable Sins by Jerry Bridges, this lesson focuses on impatience and irritability. Impatience is a symptom of selfishness. Irritability is a symptom of both selfishness and anger.
Based on Respectable Sins by Jerry Bridges, this lesson outlines seven general directions for dealing with sin. While specific sins will be addressed in future lessons, these general directions apply to dealing with any and all sin in our lives.
Based on "Why I believe" by D. James Kennedy, this lesson examines the promises God makes to His children. The most important point is that these promises only apply to those who have trusted Christ as Savior. If you have not done this and need more information, please contact me.
The document discusses biblical principles of bearing one another's burdens, not comparing oneself to others, and sharing blessings. It encourages Christians to minister to others in their weaknesses with gentleness and humility rather than pride or condemnation. Believers are instructed to generously share material and spiritual blessings, knowing that they will reap what they sow through ongoing investment in God's kingdom work. The overarching theme is that Christians should display the fruit of the Spirit in their relations with one another.
Worldliness refers to being overly focused on or attached to things of this temporal world rather than spiritual things. It can manifest in an excessive focus on money, acceptance of societal immorality, or idolizing of things like careers, politics, sports, or anything that takes precedence over God. To avoid worldliness, Christians should give at least 10% of their income to God, avoid vicarious immorality, dress modestly, and ensure nothing becomes more important than their relationship with God.
God uses regular, ordinary people to do extraordinary things. Using 1 Corinthians 1:21-28 as a springboard, we look at a few of the people in the Bible God used to do amazing things.
The document discusses acknowledging and dealing with subtle sins in our lives as Christians. It emphasizes the need to be honest about our sins so we can experience forgiveness and Christ's love. It provides a review of sins covered in the study, such as pride, selfishness, gossip, and encourages asking others for evaluation of these sins in our lives to gain awareness of areas we are in denial about. The goal is to humbly acknowledge and put our sins to death so we can display Christ-like character to others.
This document provides guidance on facing trials and suffering in life. It discusses how every trial is a test of faith, hope, or love. Regarding faith, trials call us to actively decide to trust in God even without understanding. Regarding hope, they reveal our fragility and call us to find ultimate security only in God. Regarding love, trials purify our love for God, others, and ourselves. The document advises accepting trials, asking the right questions about how to respond rather than why they occurred, and focusing on discerning the lesson rather than demanding explanations. Trials are opportunities to grow closer to God through deepening faith, hope and love.
This document provides an overview of Immanuel Journaling, a type of spiritual journaling that incorporates writing from God's perspective. The key aspects are:
- It involves a 7-step process to have a conversational dialogue with God through writing, including expressing gratitude, having God describe what He sees/hears, understanding one's situation, and having God provide help.
- The goal is to strengthen one's "iSight" - the recognition of God's presence and goodness. This can help rewire one's brain if past experiences have made it hard to trust God.
- Each step is described in detail using examples of how to write from God's perspective in response to life experiences, struggles,
The document discusses maintaining integrity in relationships and family life. It emphasizes upholding God's word and seeking His kingdom first. To build integrity, it recommends open communication, modeling godly behavior, spending time together in prayer and Bible study, and cultivating an environment of love, honesty and forgiveness. Challenges like compromise, live-in relationships and divorce damage integrity, while repentance, confession and continued obedience can lead to reconciliation.
This document discusses humanity's original relationship with God, the fall from that relationship, and redemption through Christ. It describes how in creation, God was meant to be the source of life, authority, and judge, while humanity was to depend on, obey, and experience God. The fall reversed these roles as humanity tried to be independent and in control. Christ came to redeem humanity and restore the proper roles, with God as source and authority and humanity dependent on and obedient to God. Redemption involves returning to God as source, to right relationships, and to the proper roles assigned by God.
This document discusses self-image and self-esteem. It describes how our self-image is formed based on others' opinions of us and our own beliefs. Negative self-images often originate from childhood experiences. To overcome negative self-images, we must accept ourselves as God created us and see ourselves as God sees us - with worth and purpose. Living according to God's way by having a relationship with Him helps us fulfill our purpose and potential.

The document discusses the criteria for a good relationship. It lists 12 criteria that define a good relationship: approachability and humility, forgiveness, patience, honesty, trust, respect, happiness, lack of control, limits and priorities, feeling understood and validated, safety and security of needs being met, and the ability to exchange differing ideas without drama. It then provides a paragraph of explanation for each criteria, describing what it means to have that aspect in a healthy relationship.
In order to have healthy intimate relationships with others, it helps to have a healthy intimate relationship with God. With God, there is absence of judgment and unconditional acceptance, unlike with a human partner. Through reference to biblical concepts and teachings from the Catholic Catechism, this presentation explains how to form a healthy intimacy with God.
The document provides guidance for avoiding and resolving relational conflicts in marriage. It emphasizes spiritual foundations of being merciful, pure in heart, and a peacemaker. It encourages living out of one's heavenly nature rather than fleshly passions by being filled with the Holy Spirit daily. Specific advice includes getting rid of resentments, limiting retaliation, controlling emotions, practicing tolerance of irritations, focusing on problem-solving rather than blame, and only considering divorce for core issues that undermine the marriage covenant.
The document is a sermon that addresses how Christians can deal with suffering and hardship in the real world. It argues that being totally honest with God, even through lament, is the deepest expression of faith and the only way to heal from past hurts. It notes that while Christians are not promised freedom from pain, the Psalms model lamenting honestly to God as a form of praise. The sermon aims to give permission to admit pain and questions to God, which is necessary for spiritual growth.
This summary provides the key details from the document in 3 sentences or less:
The document discusses reflections on suffering based on passages from Genesis and Job. It explores how Adam and Eve's choice to disobey God led to evil and suffering in the world. Readers are prompted to reflect on times they have chosen their own will over God's and to pray for help in developing positive character traits.
God has made us responsible for certain aspects of ourselves and our lives. It is important to understand what is "me" and what is not, and what we are responsible for versus what we are not. Boundaries help with this by defining our responsibilities and protecting our well-being. Some key aspects we are responsible for include our feelings, attitudes, beliefs, behaviors, choices, thoughts, desires, abilities to give and receive love. Boundaries should allow in what nourishes us while keeping out what harms us. God sets a good example of maintaining boundaries in a loving way.
Enoch's close walk with God resulted in him being taken directly into God's presence without dying. To cultivate a similar close relationship with God, we must pursue reconciliation with God through Jesus, trust God and what he has provided for our walk with him, agree with what scripture teaches, and spend time in fellowship with God. Walking closely with God requires attention to our Christian lives, but God will always direct our paths if we set our course toward him.
Based on "Respectable Sins" by Jerry Bridges, this lesson examines the sin of pride; specifically, pride of moral self-righteousness, doctrinal pride, pride of achievement, and an independent spirit. The fact that God is the source of all our success, that we need to be humble in our doctrine and opinions, and that we need to maintain a teachable spirit are all emphasized.

The document discusses the differences between a soul mate and an eternal companion. A soul mate is described as one's "other half" that they expect to have no problems or hardships with, which is an unrealistic fantasy. An eternal companion is a spouse someone is willing to change and endure hardship for to have an eternal marriage bond. Effective ways to have an equal, sacred eternal companion relationship include drawing closer to God, including Him in the relationship, and obtaining His perspective. Forgiveness, repentance, and enduring hard times or "crucibles" can help heal and strengthen marriages. Keeping temple covenants is essential to having an eternal family.
The document discusses fundamental choices and developing a conscience. It states that we have free will to choose how to live, and our choices will affect our life on Earth and after death. It notes that choosing to lead a God-centered life through conversion, though difficult, leads to happiness and eternal life, while self-centered living leads to unhappiness and eternal punishment. The document also defines conscience as our sense of right and wrong, and discusses how conscience is developed through religious teachings, experience, and community.

In his search towards reality or the unchanging fundamental unit of this universe, a scientist started with the external gross world of solid matter which is simple and easy to see, divide, and do experiments with.
This search led him through steps of understanding of this entire world of matter starting from elements, molecules, atoms, protons, neutrons and electrons;
He further understood that it is all packets of energy.
The atoms conglomerate together to form various chemicals; our body is therefore a permutation and combination of various chemicals. (Packets of energy in various configurations) When they join together they form molecules, cells, tissues organs, etc.
These follow certain well defined laws of nature and are controlled by nervous (electrical) and chemical (hormones) mechanisms to bring about movement and action in each and every cell.
Thus annamaya kosha is the physical frame which the grossest of the five Koshas.
Lucid Dreaming: Understanding the Risks and Benefits
The ability to control one's dreams or for the dreamer to be aware that he or she is dreaming. This process, called lucid dreaming, has some potential risks as well as many fascinating benefits. However, many people are hesitant to try it initially for fear of the potential dangers. This article aims to clarify these concerns by exploring both the risks and benefits of lucid dreaming.
The Benefits of Lucid Dreaming
Lucid dreaming allows a person to take control of their dream world, helping them overcome their fears and eliminate nightmares. This technique is particularly useful for mental health. By taking control of their dreams, individuals can face challenging scenarios in a controlled environment, which can help reduce anxiety and increase self-confidence.
Addressing Common Concerns
Physical Harm in Dreams Lucid dreaming is fundamentally safe. In a lucid dream, everything is a creation of your mind. Therefore, nothing in the dream can physically harm you. Despite the vividness and realness of the dream experience, it remains entirely within your mental landscape, posing no physical danger.
Mental Health Risks Concerns about developing PTSD or other mental illnesses from lucid dreaming are unfounded. As soon as you wake up, it's clear that the events experienced in the dream were not real. On the contrary, lucid dreaming is often seen as a therapeutic tool for conditions like PTSD, as it allows individuals to reframe and manage their thoughts.
Potential Risks of Lucid Dreaming
While generally safe, lucid dreaming does come with a few risks as well:
Mixing Dream Memories with Reality Long-term lucid dreamers might occasionally confuse dream memories with real ones, creating false memories. This issue is rare and preventable by maintaining a dream journal and avoiding lucid dreaming about real-life people or places too frequently.
Escapism Using lucid dreaming to escape reality can be problematic if it interferes with your daily life. While it is sometimes beneficial to escape and relieve the stress of reality, relying on lucid dreaming for happiness can hinder personal growth and productivity.
Feeling Tired After Lucid Dreaming Some people report feeling tired after lucid dreaming. This tiredness is not due to the dreams themselves but often results from not getting enough sleep or using techniques that disrupt sleep patterns. Taking breaks and ensuring adequate sleep can prevent this.
Mental Exhaustion Lucid dreaming can be mentally taxing if practiced excessively without breaks. It’s important to balance lucid dreaming with regular sleep to avoid mental fatigue.
Lucid dreaming is safe and beneficial if done with caution. It has many benefits, such as overcoming fear and improving mental health, and minimal risks. There are many resources and tutorials available for those interested in trying it.

Introduction
Mantra Yoga is an exact science. "Mananat trayate iti mantrah- by the Manana (constant thinking or recollection) of which one is protected or is released from the round of births and deaths, is Mantra." That is called Mantra by the meditation (Manana) on which the Jiva or the individual soul attains freedom from sin, enjoyment in heaven and final liberation, and by the aid of which it attains in full the fourfold fruit (Chaturvarga), i.e., Dharma, Artha, Kama and Moksha. A Mantra is so called because it is achieved by the mental process.
The Revelation Chapter 7 Working Copy.docxFred Gosnell
John witnesses the sealing of God's 144,000 witnesses, and he hears the crying out or shouting of an unnumbered multitude of those who have been saved during the great tribulation.
This is an intermission scene before opening the seventh seal. We have seen six seals opened revealing of the events that would shortly occur. The first 4 reveal what was to occur in the great tribulation during the destruction of Jerusalem by the Romans in AD70.
The fifth seal reveals the question from those slain as to when the Lord would avenge their death. The sixth seal reveals the answer to them from the One on the throne and of the Lamb which would be the punishment of their persecutors and accomplices. John sees four messengers/angels holding back the four winds of the earth & keeping them from blowing on the earth, the sea or any tree. In this figurative language, these are not heavenly messengers/angels. These represent those who are trying to restrain the word of God everywhere. Their efforts are restrained by the messenger in verse 2, preventing them from holding back the 4 winds, the spread of the gospel of Christ by His messengers/angels. These 4 winds stand on the four corners of the earth, Rome’s worldwide influence to stop its spread. But the gospel will be preached in all the earth. See the study for the Bible passages that support this. John hears the commands given relating to the sealing of the servants of God and the figurative number representing them. John sees a great multitude standing before the throne of all nations and kindreds and people and tongues who are clothed with white robes. All the messengers/angels stood around the throne and the elders and the four beasts fell before the throne and worshipped God. One of the elders asks John what those were that were wearing white robes. John said he knew and the elder identifies them. The chapter ends with his explanation.

2. Discontentment often arises from ongoing and
unchanging circumstances that we can do
nothing about.
There are legitimate and non-sinful reasons to be discontent.
We should all be unsatisfied with our spiritual growth and strive to grow more. If
we don’t, we will stop growing and stagnate.
There is also a time and place for being discontent with injustice and evils in
society that is coupled with a desire to see positive change.
Sinful discontentment is something that negatively affects our relationship with
God.
We are going to address the common attitude among Christians triggered by
unchanging circumstances that are trials of our faith.
3. Some examples of unchanging circumstances: an unfulfilling, low-paying job;
being single into middle age; an unhappy marriage; physical disability; continual
poor health.
Sometimes the cause of our discontentment may even be trivial. I hate paperwork,
but it is a necessary and never-ending part of the job.
It is our response to our circumstances rather than the degree of difficulty that
determines whether or not we are discontent.
We are so used to responding to difficult circumstances with fear, anger, or
discontentment that we consider them normal reactions. We need to recognize
these as sin, subtle as they are.
When we respond in this fashion, we are responding no differently from
unbelievers who never factor God into their situations. (And we are back to
ungodliness!)
Discontentment can easily lead to resentment or bitterness toward God or other
people.
Psalm 139:16
4. We used this verse to talk about anger (frustration).
The same truth that God has ordained all our days, with all their ups and downs,
their blessings and disappointments, can help us deal with circumstances that
tempt us to be discontent.
Whatever your circumstances, and however difficult they may be, the truth is they
are ordained by God for you as part of His overall plan for your life.
Jeremiah 29:11
God does nothing and allows nothing without a purpose, and that purpose is His
glory and your good.
If you have a physical disability or a physical appearance issue, Psalm 139:13 can
help.
God so directed the DNA and other biological factors that determine our physical
makeup that the Psalmist says “God formed me in my mother’s womb!”
God made us, and made us the way we are because that is how we can best fulfill
His plan for our lives.
5. For some with severe disabilities, that plan may at times seem meaningless.
If we believe that we are who we are and what we are because that is the way God
made us, then we can learn to accept our disabilities and believe that He can even
use them to glorify Himself.
It is only in acceptance that we find peace in these situations.
Acceptance means that you accept your circumstances from God, trusting that He
unerringly knows what is best for you and that He is love.
You can ask God to let you use your difficult circumstances to glorify Him. This
moves you from an attitude of a victim to an attitude of stewardship.
We are of course invited to pray about our physical circumstances, but we should
always pray in confidence that our loving God knows what is best for us and be
willing to accept His answer.
Job 1:20-22
The underlying theme of this lesson is the importance of a firm belief in the
sovereignty, wisdom, and goodness of God.
6. Whether our circumstances are short-term or long-term, our ability to respond to
them in a way that honors and pleases God depends on our ability and willingness
to bring these truths to bear on them.
This lesson may have touched a few raw nerves, especially when I refer to
discontentment as sin. Both the author of the book and I have dealt with
discontentment and physical issues. I pray that these verses and thoughts will help
you move toward a positive attitude of being stewards of the difficult and
disappointing circumstances God has given us so that we may somehow glorify
Him in all of life.
