God uses regular, ordinary people to do extraordinary things. Using 1 Corinthians 1:21-28 as a springboard, we look at a few of the people in the Bible God used to do amazing things.
2. › What are they like?
› God likes using ordinary people, just simple, everyday
ordinary people. God uses people that had plans for the
future, but set them aside to follow God’s plan when He
called on them.
› One song I heard said it this way: “He specializes in us
nothing specials.”
› I Corinthians 1:27-28. God uses the foolish things and the
weak things. Does that describe you?
› “The base things” means those of “mean birth, education,
and business; low in value or estimation.”
› Want an example or two?
3. › Ehud was a left-handed assassin (Judges 3:21)
› Deborah was a woman God used because no men
would step into the gap (Judges 4)
› Gideon was a coward (Judges 6:11)
› Samson was a disobedient, irreverent, lecherous,
drunken brute (Judges 13-17)
› God used these men and women to deliver His
people when no one else was willing to stand up.
› Are you willing to stand in the gap like these?
4. › I Samuel 3:1-10; 21
› Samuel was just a little kid, but God used him to
minister in the temple, to deliver a message to Eli, and
to speak to the people of Israel.
› You may be just a teenager, but God can use you to
do some amazing things.
› Who are you supposed to speak to about God? To
whom are you supposed to minister?
5. › I Samuel 16: 11-13
› David was the youngest of seven. In Jewish culture, the
youngest was the least valuable and received the
smallest inheritance.
› Even his brothers had issues with David initially.
› David became king of Israel, grew the kingdom, and was
a man after God’s own heart.
› He wasn’t perfect, but God used David to punish the
Philistines and other peoples, and to protect His people.
› David loved God with all his heart. Do you?
6. › Matthew 10:1-4
› Peter, Andrew, James, and John were all fishermen –
not the most well-thought-of profession and definitely
not the most educated men.
› Peter was a racist. James and John were arrogant
little rich boys.
› Matthew and Judas Iscariot were thieves. Thomas
was a cynic. Simon was a zealot (a violent rebel).
› If God can use men like these, don’t you think He can
use you, too?
7. › This is just a quick little list of some of the ordinary
people God used in the Bible to do extraordinary
things.
› You and I are nothing special, yet God can use us to
do something amazing IF we are willing to give up our
plans and follow God’s plan.
› What do you want to do with your life? Have you
asked God what HE wants you to do with your life?
› Are you willing to set aside your plans for the future for
the chance to be used by God?
