A Library’s Community Role
• Libraries Provide Access
Libraries level the playing field. As great democratic institutions, they serve people of every age, income level, location, ethnicity, and physical ability, and provide the
full range of information resources needed to live, learn, govern, and work.
• Libraries Build Community
Libraries are community hubs. They connect people to information and connect people to people. They are safe havens for kids, providing after-school homework help,
games, and book clubs. They offer computer classes, allowing older adults to stay engaged in a digital world. And library bookmobiles and community outreach programs
help those living in remote areas and those who are home bound to remain connected to the world.
• Libraries Promote Literacy
Libraries are committed to helping children and adults develop the skills needed to survive and thrive in a global information society. The ability to read and use
computers are at the forefront of these skills.

Collaboration
Collaboration is like carbonation for fresh
ideas. Working together bubbles up ideas you
would not have come up with solo, which gets
you further faster.

4. Collaboration: How to use
successfully
• Open communication, let all participate and create a
comfortable environment.
• Set clear goals and objectives agreed on by the
group. Stay on topic and have accountability.
• Share knowledge and encourage everyone to share
their expertise.
• Stay curious and keep an open mind. Try not to
automatically say no.
• By listening and treating the others with respect your
group will work with trust in each other.
