Social Media, Big Data, and the Public SphereAxel Bruns
This document discusses the promise and challenges of using social media data and big data analytics to study public discourse and online communities. It provides three key points:
1. Social media generates large amounts of user data that can provide new insights when analyzed at scale, but also raises ethical issues regarding user profiling and content ownership.
2. Twitter is a useful platform to study due to its large user base and public data, but hashtag analysis only captures part of discussions and multiple overlapping networks and public spheres exist.
3. Researchers need interdisciplinary skills to effectively analyze social media data but developing common methods and addressing precarity issues remains a challenge.
Presentation for #media2012 launch 4.10.2010 (Archiving Megaevents and Altern...Jennifer Jones
This document discusses the importance of proactively archiving one's own data as no one else will do it for you. It recommends selecting the important context and variables to archive from infinite data sets like mega events. It also suggests experimenting with free archiving tools but warns against complacency, even for large companies, in effectively archiving data.
The document provides tips for dressing professionally for interviews and the workplace. It discusses the importance of visual communication through one's wardrobe. Key recommendations include purchasing well-fitting clothing made from quality fabrics, ensuring clothes are clean and pressed, and dressing for the job one wants next rather than just their current role. Specific tips are provided for both men and women on incorporating current trends appropriately while still maintaining a professional appearance. The presentation emphasizes how one's clothing and visual first impression can positively influence others.

Managing with VUCA: Breaking the Corporate Addiction to Luck and HopeDavid Sypnieski
The value from traditional principles related to analyzing market or social environments is becoming extremely limited. Current and emerging issues facing the world today are more complex and dynamic in nature than in decades and generations past. Traditional, simple, and historic demographic based data isn't sophisticated enough to properly quantify the characteristics of these more complex and dynamic market and social environments.
An evolved set of skills, tools and processes are required to develop successful corporate strategies and thrive in the "Social Economy". In the Social Economy, principles that drove business strategy now expose companies to a tremendous amount of risk due to what is known as the VUCA context. Successfully navigating VUCA with Traditional Strategies requires a significant amount of Hope and Luck. Evolved leaders and strategies engage in activities that on the surface counter the intuition of Traditional Strategists, but ultimately drive out an organization's reliance on Hope and Luck to survive.

Harbor Research - Introduction to Smart Business & M2MHarbor Research
The Pervasive Internet and the new world of Smart Systems are ushering in an era where people, machines, devices, sensors, and businesses are all connected and able to interact with one another. As these previously disaggregated parties come together, new modes of collaboration and intelligence will abound fostering a trend that we call “Smart Business.” Machine-to- Machine communication (M2M) systems are merely the starting point. The development of the Pervasive Internet and the evolution toward Smart Business practices will enable a truly connected world. Inputs from machines, people, video streams, maps, newsfeeds, and sensors will be digitized and placed onto networks. This will lead to the convergence of the physical & virtual worlds, thus enabling collective awareness, creativity, and better decision making capabilities for societies that increasingly rely on real-time information and interactions. Many observers believe that this phenomenon will drive the largest growth opportunity in the history of business.
The document discusses strategies for effective knowledge management. It outlines timeless business principles like increasing productivity and reducing costs. It also discusses identifying, creating, storing, sharing and using knowledge. Modern tools like web portals and semantic technologies can help manage knowledge better and increase productivity of knowledge workers substantially. The key challenges are to share knowledge globally and continuously create and innovate using the best strategies and technologies.

This document summarizes trends in social networking and applications from December 2009. It discusses the power of social networks and how search has become primary. It also examines prosumers who both produce and consume media, and how the technographics of social media vary by age. Additional sections explore the reverse sales funnel model and solution spaces for social networking, providing examples from Dell and Barack Obama's presidential campaign. The document concludes by considering digital ecosystems, roles within ecosystems, and emerging trends in nowism and liquid modernity.

This document summarizes trends in social networking and applications from December 2009. It discusses the power of social networks and how search has become primary. It also examines prosumers who both produce and consume media, and how the technographics of social media vary by age. Key concepts covered include the reverse sales funnel, social objects, transaction costs, collaboration and informal network roles in digital ecosystems.
The document discusses knowledge management principles and trends over time. It notes that knowledge work will need to increase 50-fold in productivity. Key challenges for the next decade include globally sharing knowledge networks, innovating, improving quality, and aligning leadership to timeless principles. The presentation also contrasts old and new knowledge paradigms with the new being rich communications and an ocean of knowledge.
This document discusses how collaborative and social technologies can help unlock tacit knowledge in organizations and better channel the collective strengths of knowledge workers. It notes that while these technologies show great potential, simply implementing them is not enough - organizations must also rethink traditional processes and ways of working to fully realize the benefits. Providing guidelines for focusing collaborative technologies on business opportunities can help organizations better harness tacit knowledge for creating future opportunities.

Digital Banking in the Cloud: How Citizens Bank Unlocked Their MainframePrecisely
Inconsistent user experience and siloed data, high costs, and changing customer expectations – Citizens Bank was experiencing these challenges while it was attempting to deliver a superior digital banking experience for its clients. Its core banking applications run on the mainframe and Citizens was using legacy utilities to get the critical mainframe data to feed customer-facing channels, like call centers, web, and mobile. Ultimately, this led to higher operating costs (MIPS), delayed response times, and longer time to market.
Ever-changing customer expectations demand more modern digital experiences, and the bank needed to find a solution that could provide real-time data to its customer channels with low latency and operating costs. Join this session to learn how Citizens is leveraging Precisely to replicate mainframe data to its customer channels and deliver on their “modern digital bank” experiences.

zkStudyClub - LatticeFold: A Lattice-based Folding Scheme and its Application...Alex Pruden
Folding is a recent technique for building efficient recursive SNARKs. Several elegant folding protocols have been proposed, such as Nova, Supernova, Hypernova, Protostar, and others. However, all of them rely on an additively homomorphic commitment scheme based on discrete log, and are therefore not post-quantum secure. In this work we present LatticeFold, the first lattice-based folding protocol based on the Module SIS problem. This folding protocol naturally leads to an efficient recursive lattice-based SNARK and an efficient PCD scheme. LatticeFold supports folding low-degree relations, such as R1CS, as well as high-degree relations, such as CCS. The key challenge is to construct a secure folding protocol that works with the Ajtai commitment scheme. The difficulty, is ensuring that extracted witnesses are low norm through many rounds of folding. We present a novel technique using the sumcheck protocol to ensure that extracted witnesses are always low norm no matter how many rounds of folding are used. Our evaluation of the final proof system suggests that it is as performant as Hypernova, while providing post-quantum security.

Introduction of Cybersecurity with OSS at Code Europe 2024Hiroshi SHIBATA
I develop the Ruby programming language, RubyGems, and Bundler, which are package managers for Ruby. Today, I will introduce how to enhance the security of your application using open-source software (OSS) examples from Ruby and RubyGems.
The first topic is CVE (Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures). I have published CVEs many times. But what exactly is a CVE? I'll provide a basic understanding of CVEs and explain how to detect and handle vulnerabilities in OSS.
Next, let's discuss package managers. Package managers play a critical role in the OSS ecosystem. I'll explain how to manage library dependencies in your application.
I'll share insights into how the Ruby and RubyGems core team works to keep our ecosystem safe. By the end of this talk, you'll have a better understanding of how to safeguard your code.
