Recent Christmas Ads
John Lewis & Waitrose
Give a Little More
This year the highly anticipated advert from
Waitrose and John Lewis celebrates kindness and
how the world would be a better place if we all
gave a little more love.
The two-minute campaign titled Give A Little Love
displays how acts of kindness, no matter the size
can positively impact the world.
Directed by the British director Oscar Hudson, the
advert captures different moments of kindness
through different scenes.
Sainsbury
Sainsbury’s released a trilogy of adverts, making it
the first time that the Big 4 grocer has produced
more than one Christmas advert for a single festive
season.
All three adverts, entitled Gravy Song, Perfect
Portions and Big Sarnie, celebrate culinary
memories with loved ones and festive nostalgia.

Sports Direct
Sports Direct’s first ever Christmas advert was
directed by VMA winner Henry Schofield and is a
celebration of sport and fitness wrapped up into a
magical mashup.
The advert follows a female protagonist being
asked “what do you want for Christmas?” by her
mum, before exploring the realms of sport in every
sense of the word.
Argos
Argos was perhaps the first of all major retailers in
the UK to drop its Christmas advert shortly after
Halloween.
It’s advert stars two sisters, Lucy and Daisy, who
perform as mini magicians for their parents and
family.
It also marks the return of Argos’ Book of Dreams
theme from last year, which saw the retailer put its
catalogue at the forefront of its Christmas
campaign for the first time in over decade.
BRANDS HAVE FUN WITH
'THIS CLAIM IS DISPUTED' TWITTER MEME
Background
The latest Twitter meme has been brewing for
some time. This past summer, Twitter began
putting flags on sitting president Donald Trump’s
tweets, warning users that his messages of voter
fraud and claims about mail-in ballots might not be
entirely accurate, with the “This claim about voter
fraud is disputed” label.
Since then, brands saw an opportunity to take part
in the pop culture conversation, even with the
meme’s political nature. Brands, especially food
brands like Oreo, Burger King and Snickers, have
added their own humor, often saying that their
statements are actually not disputed by anyone.

virtual live concert held by
Stray Kids a South Korean
boy band. The band held a
virtual live concert on the
22nd of November 2020. Fans
of the band praised them for
an amazing 3 hours concert.

Nigerian artiste 9ice, was found cheating
on his wife in his third marriage, in a video
leaked by his side chick.
The artiste released a video admitting to
cheating and asked the public to beg his
wife to forgive him. The caption on this
video was “Save a sinking vessel”. An old
video of his interview with the hosts of
Moments (EbonyLife) resurfaced. In the
video he stated how he desired to have
20 children from different wives.
There were mixed reactions to his video,
considering the artiste has a history with
cheating on his wives. With most people
asking him to take a break from marriage,
while others pleaded with his wife to
forgive him.
Twitter Fleets
Fleets is the latest Twitter feature. It
allows the user to share fleeting or
transitory thoughts, and after 24 hours,
they'll disappear from view.
The audience response to this feature
were both positive and negative.
Some of the users felt that as long as
their privacy is assured then the
feature was acceptable while others
felt there was no need for the feature.
There were also some technical issues
with the feature allowing users Fleets
to run for more than 24hrs.
Erica X Cardi B X Dynasty
BBN Star Erica, stepped out in a custom
made white and plaid suit by Mai Atafo. This
was to announce the collaboration with Star
Radler and Legend Nigeria.
Twitter influencer, D1 Dynasty took to twitter
to compare the Erica’s outfit with that of
Cardi B, mainly because of the similarity in
style. He tagged Cardi’s outfit Grammy style
while that of Erica was Grandma style.
The interesting part was that Cardi B
responded saying “I like it tho. It's different
and classy, mines is different and edgy.
This gave the Elites, Erica’s more bragging
rights.

Belkin
The Belkin BOOST CHARGE UV Sanitizer +
Wireless Charger was developed with
post-pandemic lifestyles in mind and it is a
product that's useful for keeping essential
devices both clean and charged.
The all-in-one wireless charger uses a simple
four-step system that begins with opening the
lid, placing an item inside, closing the lid and
then pushing the button to begin the
sanitization process. Unlike some comparable
products, this one operates without noisy fans
or buzzing sounds, plus it quickly and
effectively sanitizes objects without heat, liquid
or chemicals.
BMW
The MINI Vision Urbanaut has been shown off by
the BMW Group as a next-generation transportation
concept that would work to enhance the
socialization capabilities of drivers and passengers
alike.
The vehicle features expansive space on the interior
which are all focused on providing a living room-like
experience. This would provide travelers with a way
to interact with friends and family or even with fellow
travelers they encounter along the way.
The MINI Vision Urbanaut conceptual minivan builds
on the popularity of van life and the increasing
demand to travel domestically to explore nearby
sights as consumers seek to make the most of all
their weekends or vacation time.
Marketing Trends
HBO
HBO's new limited series, The Flight Attendant, is
being promoted with a unique virtual 'Coffee-ology'
experience, that serves as part barista classes, part
murder mystery.
With the pandemic still in full swing, brands have to get
creative to engage with their consumers. In lieu of
branded in-person events, many are taking to the
virtual world to create unique experiences.
Coffee-ology is a perfect example, as it provided
shareable moments, while engaging the player. The
event was branded as a coffee-making class, available
only to a limited audience of media and press. What
the audience didn't know, was the murder mystery
twist, in which an intruder breaks in and kidnaps the
barista, leaving the audience to solve the rest.
The Grinch & Kylie Holiday Collection
The fifth holiday collection from Kylie
Cosmetics features one of the most
well-known holiday-hating curmudgeons.
The holiday cosmetics collection includes
everything from eyeshadow palettes and
highlighters to lipsticks, which are available in
a range of shades from wearable nudes to
signature green tones.
Inside the collection, fans of the Dr. Seuss
character will find shades like Littlest of
Who’s and Max the Reindeer. Across the
packaging for the collection, the Grinch is
prominently featured, alongside other
beloved characters from Dr. Seuss' Whoville.
Frito-Lay’s
Frito-Lay's ugly sweaters are giving hungry
consumers something to lounge around in this
holiday season.
According to the brand's svp and chief marketing
officer, Rachel Ferdinando said “an absolute must,
especially at a time when we’re all looking to add
some joy and cheer to our everyday lives.” The line
is comprised of sweaters, fuzzy socks, scarves,
and more.
To promote the clothes in the most convenient
way possible, the brand launched a holiday shop
that's filled with branded gift ideas. In addition to
the clothing, the snack brand has also committed
$500,000 in proceeds to Toys for Tots.

John Lewis & Waitrose Give a Little More This year the highly anticipated advert from Waitrose and John Lewis celebrates kindness and how the world would be a better place if we all gave a little more love. The two-minute campaign titled Give A Little Love displays how acts of kindness, no matter the size can positively impact the world. Directed by the British director Oscar Hudson, the advert captures different moments of kindness through different scenes.
  • 6. Sainsbury Sainsbury’s released a trilogy of adverts, making it the first time that the Big 4 grocer has produced more than one Christmas advert for a single festive season. All three adverts, entitled Gravy Song, Perfect Portions and Big Sarnie, celebrate culinary memories with loved ones and festive nostalgia.
  • 8. Sports Direct Sports Direct’s first ever Christmas advert was directed by VMA winner Henry Schofield and is a celebration of sport and fitness wrapped up into a magical mashup. The advert follows a female protagonist being asked “what do you want for Christmas?” by her mum, before exploring the realms of sport in every sense of the word.
  • 9. Argos Argos was perhaps the first of all major retailers in the UK to drop its Christmas advert shortly after Halloween. It’s advert stars two sisters, Lucy and Daisy, who perform as mini magicians for their parents and family. It also marks the return of Argos’ Book of Dreams theme from last year, which saw the retailer put its catalogue at the forefront of its Christmas campaign for the first time in over decade.

This past summer, Twitter began putting flags on sitting president Donald Trump’s tweets, warning users that his messages of voter fraud and claims about mail-in ballots might not be entirely accurate, with the “This claim about voter fraud is disputed” label. Since then, brands saw an opportunity to take part in the pop culture conversation, even with the meme’s political nature. Brands, especially food brands like Oreo, Burger King and Snickers, have added their own humor, often saying that their statements are actually not disputed by anyone.

The 2020 event held on the 22nd of November. Winners for this event were Justin Bieber, Cardi B X Megan Thee Stallion, Taylor Swift, The Weeknd, Nicki Minaj, Jonas Brothers and many more

This hashtag is a response to pro-democracy protest against the monarchy in Thailand. This protests started in February 2020 and has gained momentum in November 2020, with protesters as young as 15 years old, demanding a change in government.
  • 17. Trending Hashtags - Longest Trending This snapshot records the longest trending hashtags in the last 24 hours, globally. #これだけで何のゲームか分 かってしまう This is a hashtag trending in Japan, it is about a game. Another to note is that the #AMAs takes the 4th place on the list.

It is response to the virtual live concert held by Stray Kids a South Korean boy band. The band held a virtual live concert on the 22nd of November 2020. Fans of the band praised them for an amazing 3 hours concert.
  • 20. 9ice Nigerian artiste 9ice, was found cheating on his wife in his third marriage, in a video leaked by his side chick. The artiste released a video admitting to cheating and asked the public to beg his wife to forgive him. The caption on this video was “Save a sinking vessel”. An old video of his interview with the hosts of Moments (EbonyLife) resurfaced. In the video he stated how he desired to have 20 children from different wives. There were mixed reactions to his video, considering the artiste has a history with cheating on his wives. With most people asking him to take a break from marriage, while others pleaded with his wife to forgive him.
  • 21. Twitter Fleets Fleets is the latest Twitter feature. It allows the user to share fleeting or transitory thoughts, and after 24 hours, they'll disappear from view. The audience response to this feature were both positive and negative. Some of the users felt that as long as their privacy is assured then the feature was acceptable while others felt there was no need for the feature. There were also some technical issues with the feature allowing users Fleets to run for more than 24hrs.
  • 22. Erica X Cardi B X Dynasty BBN Star Erica, stepped out in a custom made white and plaid suit by Mai Atafo. This was to announce the collaboration with Star Radler and Legend Nigeria. Twitter influencer, D1 Dynasty took to twitter to compare the Erica’s outfit with that of Cardi B, mainly because of the similarity in style. He tagged Cardi’s outfit Grammy style while that of Erica was Grandma style. The interesting part was that Cardi B responded saying “I like it tho. It's different and classy, mines is different and edgy. This gave the Elites, Erica’s more bragging rights.

BMW The MINI Vision Urbanaut has been shown off by the BMW Group as a next-generation transportation concept that would work to enhance the socialization capabilities of drivers and passengers alike. The vehicle features expansive space on the interior which are all focused on providing a living room-like experience. This would provide travelers with a way to interact with friends and family or even with fellow travelers they encounter along the way. The MINI Vision Urbanaut conceptual minivan builds on the popularity of van life and the increasing demand to travel domestically to explore nearby sights as consumers seek to make the most of all their weekends or vacation time.
  • 28. HBO HBO's new limited series, The Flight Attendant, is being promoted with a unique virtual 'Coffee-ology' experience, that serves as part barista classes, part murder mystery. With the pandemic still in full swing, brands have to get creative to engage with their consumers. In lieu of branded in-person events, many are taking to the virtual world to create unique experiences. Coffee-ology is a perfect example, as it provided shareable moments, while engaging the player. The event was branded as a coffee-making class, available only to a limited audience of media and press. What the audience didn't know, was the murder mystery twist, in which an intruder breaks in and kidnaps the barista, leaving the audience to solve the rest.
  • 29. The Grinch & Kylie Holiday Collection The fifth holiday collection from Kylie Cosmetics features one of the most well-known holiday-hating curmudgeons. The holiday cosmetics collection includes everything from eyeshadow palettes and highlighters to lipsticks, which are available in a range of shades from wearable nudes to signature green tones. Inside the collection, fans of the Dr. Seuss character will find shades like Littlest of Who’s and Max the Reindeer. Across the packaging for the collection, the Grinch is prominently featured, alongside other beloved characters from Dr. Seuss' Whoville.
  • 30. Frito-Lay’s Frito-Lay's ugly sweaters are giving hungry consumers something to lounge around in this holiday season. According to the brand's svp and chief marketing officer, Rachel Ferdinando said “an absolute must, especially at a time when we’re all looking to add some joy and cheer to our everyday lives.” The line is comprised of sweaters, fuzzy socks, scarves, and more. To promote the clothes in the most convenient way possible, the brand launched a holiday shop that's filled with branded gift ideas. In addition to the clothing, the snack brand has also committed $500,000 in proceeds to Toys for Tots.
