For testing and training applications, the only affordable way to represent the required environment is to introduce simulated systems into live cockpits or with a synthetic, immersive environment due to limitations in physical range space and the number of physical assets available to represent realistic friendly and threat force densities. In some cases, M&S environments can be used to assess test issues that cannot be easily addressed in the real-world environment due to financial, operational security, and/or environmental considerations. Creating augmented live training and synthetic environments for training and exercises also promises to reduce operation tempos while still allowing realistic training at home stations and reducing the wear and tear on valuable equipment.
For almost a decade I (and I am sure, all ABAPers) have been happily using the loop holes in SAP security to access the forbidden transactions, with no malicious intension though, only for speedy analysis and ethical debugging.
But today I am wondering, is it really a loop hole or has SAP provided these small windows to the developers knowingly?

All the World's a Stage (Unless you are in the Military)Andy Fawkes
Presented at the RAeS "Simulation Based Training: The Key to Military Operational Capability" Conference, London 22 November 2016 - If military mission training, planning, preparation, command and control, and after action analysis/debriefing were life then there would not be one world or “stage” but many. Military personnel are typically required to carry out their activities singularly and together on a number of different training, simulation and C4ISTAR systems that may work together but have different human interfaces, processes, and digital content that may not be easily shared across systems. This puts additional workloads on the personnel and runs the risk of confusion and reduced operational agility. What if there was only one world or “stage” to support the complete mission cycle? This talk will discuss the challenges in achieving one “stage” when most if not all simulation/C4ISTAR component elements are procured and operated by different teams and sourced from different companies. However, if the organisational and technological challenges can be overcome, might there be additional operational benefits going forward?

Future Armoured Vehicles Weapon Systems - Extended RealitiesAndy Fawkes
Presented at 4th Annual SMi Future Armoured Vehicles Weapon Systems Conference, London - 6 June 2019 - A Training & Simulation Perspective on VR, AR & Related Technologies in Armoured Warfare
Currently, warfighters are trained predominantly through live events, but live training is expensive and can not be provided at a frequency to maintain optimal performance among staffs. Additionally, Gen Y will be entering the joint staff workforce by 2014. Recent advances in virtual world technologies may be used to improve the situation. This paper discusses some work to train small staffs in a collaborative environment. It aims to increase customer contact hours and reinforces skills learned in traditional face-to-face training courses without additional travel costs.
The Effects of Marine Simulators on TrainingIJERA Editor
Simulators have increased its usefulness in marine training over the years. Literature cites its many advantages which should ultimately lead to the increase in sea safety. However, more remarked than the discomfort felt by the trainee due to the lack of human interaction, simulation-training was noted to be costly and does not provide a clear indication of its value in organizations as no information supports this. A comparison of other technology which could be used for training is shown to provide an insight to the probable technology-based alternatives for simulators. In the search for the effects of marine-simulators on training, a few literature indicated its effects. Studies indeed specify favorable effects of simulators to training. However, no definite or quantifiable explanations were shown to relate training to its ultimate purpose of improving sea safety. Studies reviewed explored the effects of training to teamwork and the effects of training on the cognitive abilities of trainees. The Lewin study on the effects of CRM training indicated positive outcomes but was unclear about the link of training effectiveness with safety. The perception study revealed significant results in the perceived change of attitude, knowledge, and skills. The other study was on determining the physiological response related to cognitive activities which revealed that a rise in frequency values was observed during problemsolving in navigational situations. Simulator systems in training institutions were examined to provide a glimpse of how training may be made more effective

Development of a mechanical maintenance training simulator in OpenSimulator f...Gonçalo Cruz Matos
Mechanical maintenance of F-16 engines is carried out as a team effort involving 3 to 4 skilled engine technicians. This paper presents the development of a mechanical maintenance simulator for their training. This simulator aims to enable technician training to be enhanced with cooperation and context prior to the training phase with actual physical engines. We describe the requirements that were identified with the Portuguese Air Force, the overall software architecture of the system, the current stage of the prototype, and the outcomes of the first field tests with users.
The use of Projective Analysis (PAN) modeling tools to establish the value of increased agility in responding to increasingly multi-sided demands being made on operational capabilities. The approach addresses the need to reduce cohesion costs by creating economies of alignment as well as economies of scale and scope.
Mini Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (MUAVs) are becoming popular research platform and drawing
considerable attention, particularly during the last decade due to their multi-dimensional applications in
almost every walk of life. MUAVs range from simple toys found at electronic supermarkets for
entertainment purpose to highly sophisticated commercial platforms performing novel assignments like
offshore wind power station inspection and 3D modelling of buildings. This paper presents an overview of
the main aspects in the domain of distributed control of cooperating MUAVs to facilitate the potential users
in this fascinating field. Furthermore it gives an overview on state of the art in MUAV technologies e.g.
Photonic Mixer Devices (PMD) camera, distributed control methods and on-going work and challenges,
which is the motivation for many researchers all over the world to work in this field.
