This document discusses the transition from analog to digital cities and societies. It notes that as technology has advanced, computers and digital devices have become more networked, mobile, and hidden. It also discusses how people now learn and work differently in digital environments compared to analog, emphasizing immediacy over memorization. The document argues that cities need to organize themselves around knowledge production to keep up with replacement rates. It advocates for open and participatory systems that allow people to create their own environments and enhance communication between life, work and place both physically and virtually.

What’s up with the physical dimension in the digital world?Luis Borges Gouveia
The document discusses how the rise of digital technologies has changed our notions of physical place and time and space. While the digital world has made time and space more flexible, the physical space remains central to human activity. There is a paradox: as the digital world expands, the importance of physical place for learning, work and social interaction persists. Those who can attract people to their physical locations will be successful, so territories remain a key factor.
The document discusses the future of learning (i-Learning) from 2013 to 2050. It defines i-Learning as innovative, inclusive, and imaginative learning that utilizes technology to enhance learning globally. By 2050, technologies like augmented reality, brain-computer interfaces, and immersive social media will be commonplace. Students will need to learn critically and collaborate globally to solve problems. Educational models will need to change to support transformative, self-directed learning across environments to prepare students for a connected world and society that does not yet exist.
Spot the Future is a project to figure out what is happening at the edge of change in Armenia, Egypt and Georgia. It is a collaboration between UNDP-CIS Innovation Unit and Edgeryders. In this presentation I explain why we do it, how we do it, and some early results.
The Smart City World Expo 2016 was held in Barcelona from November 15-17 and brought together innovators in smart cities and future urban development. The consulting firm TGAC attended to research innovations that will shape cities and mobility in the future, such as for their work on the 2020 Dubai World Expo. Over three days, TGAC attended talks from thought leaders and interacted with technologies. Key topics discussed included the challenges of rapid urbanization, taking a human-centered approach to development, and ensuring new technologies actually improve quality of life.
Work is universal. But, how, why, where and when we work has never been so open to individual interpretation. The certainties of the past have been replaced by ambiguity, questions and the steady hum of technology. Now, in a groundbreaking research project covering 21 global companies and more than 200 executives, Lynda Gratton is making sense of the future of work. In this exclusive article she provides a preview of the real world of 21st century work.
Digital technologies have transformed how people experience and share their lives. Many users actively curate their social media profiles to portray idealized versions of their lives. However, this has led to a world of "unreality" where people confuse simulated online representations for reality. New technologies like augmented reality, virtual reality, and mixed reality increasingly blur the lines between real and virtual, allowing people to immerse themselves in simulated experiences. While these technologies provide opportunities to experience the impossible, they also risk further detachment from true reality and increased digital addiction if not approached carefully.
This document summarizes a white paper about major trends impacting content industries, including the disappearance of physical space due to ubiquitous connectivity, the asynchronicity of time in global collaboration, consumers becoming producers of content, consumers raising corporate consciousness through social media, and the blending of personal and professional lives online. It also announces a series of webinars discussing these trends and their implications.
The Industrial Age and the Information Age document discusses three major ages in human history - the Pre-Industrial Age, the Industrial Age, and the Information Age. It explains how each age had different effects on mankind's intellectual, social, and economic development. The Pre-Industrial Age focused on agriculture and limited education. The Industrial Age brought mass production and growing literacy. Now in the Information Age, technology has advanced education and improved lives overall.
The document discusses the future of mobile technologies and locative media. It predicts that in 10 years, mobile technologies will be integrated into every aspect of life, with personalised services accessible via mobile cloud computing networks. Businesses and individuals will rely heavily on information and services provided through mobile phones. The boundaries between physical and virtual spaces will continue to blur as mobile technologies become more integrated into our environments and daily interactions.
This document discusses how humans can distinguish themselves from artificial intelligence and robots in the future. It argues that humans have capabilities like multi-dimensional thinking, out-of-the-box thinking, drawing from unstructured experiences, and dreaming that allow for creativity and innovation in a way that AI and robots cannot match. While machines can emulate human physical and cognitive tasks through programming, they are limited by their programming and inability to think in the flexible, creative ways that define human intelligence.

Placemaking is the art of arranging spaces to enrich the urban experience. Continuities and changes will impact that experience. Changes might include more sustainable ways of living and new social networks but greater polarisation. Expect more of the same from globalisation, information technologies and demographic change. Cities could become more gated and ghettoized or more compact, integrated and cohesive.

Prof. Flavia Marzano discusses opportunities for digital and open transformation following the coronavirus pandemic. She argues that digital transformation should involve redefining processes rather than just adapting technologies. Public administrations should focus on open data, open source, simplifying regulations and services, and digital inclusiveness. The current situation presents an opportunity to move from "digital first" to "digital only" and implement long-needed changes to vision and planning. Common mistakes to avoid include the "not invented here" syndrome and working in silos. Digital transformation must consider users and involve co-design, and should promote diversity, accessibility, and human rights.

The 10 Megatrends of 2022 are the global list of topics that our experts consider will change technology, business models, and society in the medium term. These Megatrends aim to anticipate the answers to the main questions about the future and help us steer our actions and strategies.
The document discusses the increasing connectivity of digital systems and how they are reaching into various living environments like homes, schools, and public spaces. It argues that this trend is empowering users and changing what it means to be connected. The presentation envisions a future of networked augmented society where concepts like virtual reality, centralized control, and mass media are giving way to augmented reality, participatory media, and more decentralized models of sharing information and democratic participation online.

Emerging alternatives to leadership and governance in a digital ecosystemLuis Borges Gouveia
The last decade brings us a quite global, complex and complete digital ecosystem, the so called VUCA world were volatility, uncertainty, complexity and ambiguity is a common setting for any organization. Digital data and information, appliances, information artifacts and any sort of products and applications emerge, more connective due to its digital nature. Even considering different contexts, almost any economic sector, social or work setting was affected by a common digital base. Thus, whatever perspective that we can take on, this digital base made some sort of impact both in the way we work, and organize ourselves. It also alters the ways we interact and support human relationships both as individuals and as organizations.
It is expected that such a digital ecosystem enhances and transforms hard skills related with information and communication technologies and the same with information based skills. Not so clear, the same happens to soft skills and the need to address new challenges in how we deal with human activity. In particular, concerning leadership and governance, there is a need to discuss emerging alternatives in a digital ecosystem.

THE SACRIFICE HOW PRO-PALESTINE PROTESTS STUDENTS ARE SACRIFICING TO CHANGE T...indexPub
The recent surge in pro-Palestine student activism has prompted significant responses from universities, ranging from negotiations and divestment commitments to increased transparency about investments in companies supporting the war on Gaza. This activism has led to the cessation of student encampments but also highlighted the substantial sacrifices made by students, including academic disruptions and personal risks. The primary drivers of these protests are poor university administration, lack of transparency, and inadequate communication between officials and students. This study examines the profound emotional, psychological, and professional impacts on students engaged in pro-Palestine protests, focusing on Generation Z's (Gen-Z) activism dynamics. This paper explores the significant sacrifices made by these students and even the professors supporting the pro-Palestine movement, with a focus on recent global movements. Through an in-depth analysis of printed and electronic media, the study examines the impacts of these sacrifices on the academic and personal lives of those involved. The paper highlights examples from various universities, demonstrating student activism's long-term and short-term effects, including disciplinary actions, social backlash, and career implications. The researchers also explore the broader implications of student sacrifices. The findings reveal that these sacrifices are driven by a profound commitment to justice and human rights, and are influenced by the increasing availability of information, peer interactions, and personal convictions. The study also discusses the broader implications of this activism, comparing it to historical precedents and assessing its potential to influence policy and public opinion. The emotional and psychological toll on student activists is significant, but their sense of purpose and community support mitigates some of these challenges. However, the researchers call for acknowledging the broader Impact of these sacrifices on the future global movement of FreePalestine.

This document provides an overview of wound healing, its functions, stages, mechanisms, factors affecting it, and complications.
A wound is a break in the integrity of the skin or tissues, which may be associated with disruption of the structure and function.
Healing is the body’s response to injury in an attempt to restore normal structure and functions.
Healing can occur in two ways: Regeneration and Repair
There are 4 phases of wound healing: hemostasis, inflammation, proliferation, and remodeling. This document also describes the mechanism of wound healing. Factors that affect healing include infection, uncontrolled diabetes, poor nutrition, age, anemia, the presence of foreign bodies, etc.
Complications of wound healing like infection, hyperpigmentation of scar, contractures, and keloid formation.
Digital Paradox: why place matters, putting place in its place!

ConsideringtheKnowledgeandInformationSocietyandthegrowingpressuresthatbothglobalizationandthe financial & economic crises make emerge, newformsoforganizingandthinkinghumanactivity are needed. Thisisthecontext to presentthe digital paradox as a perspective onhow to assistthe social andeconomicdevelopmentof a territory.
12. For centuries, we human beings live in a world where physical locations are common and stable references Our main references of time and space put us many challenges but were part of us as human beings!
13. Same time & same space: We! Same time & different space: There! Different time & different space: Them! Different time & same space: Place!
14. Place is a very important notion for us It is were human activity takes place… (or is located…) It is central for live, learning, work and fun… (be there!)
15. YES, BUT… With computers and networks come the digital and things change Time and space are not the same…
16. Digital T&S: more independent You can twist time or space even without any relation between them (try some form of video recording or co-location devices to turn it possible)
17. Digital T&S; Elastic What you can do is a lot more and provides some control behavior of how time and space work (for instance, we can get more time using a globalization approach to business or providing digital multimedia to transform a place)
18. Digital T&S: But… be aware! Time: more time to do, less time to react Space: almost impossible to control, easy to reach
19. Digital T&S: No more just four alternatives! Different times & spaces possible We can have digital overlays and they can be present in different ways … although we still are physical beings (and must pay the price!)
20. As a result: Place gets larger and the world suddenly becomes our place We no longer have borders at human scale!
21. Reinventtime & space We can be in more spaces at more times We can not be where we are or be at another time
27. YES places have now more components and the digital is part of any place
28. BUT Well, I love a lot computers but love more life & people
