that computers have had an impact
on my life, and brainstorming allowed
me to research for the reasons why. I
think I’m ready to move onto the next
stage.

Question :What is the
central idea or
purpose of your
essay?
First Draft
1. Remember all the reasons why
an invention has had an impact in
your life.
2. Write about how these
inventions have changed your
life.
3. When writing your first draft,
remember to include an
introductory paragraph and
incorporate the ideas/reasons from
the brainstorming activity.
4. Each reason should be a
paragraph long and contain
supporting details.
5. Lastly, be sure to
include a strong
conclusion.
Now that
you’ve
completed your
first draft, it’s
time to move
onto the
revision
process.
Revision Focuses On…
Question: Have I
been specific
enough?
Revise Revise Revise
Revising your paper means to improve what you have already written.
Keep in mind what are the key points that can be revised
 Ideas
 Organization
 Word Choice
 Sentence Fluency
1. Rethink: Can you change words, add or
subtract to make your paper even better?
2. Rework: If the answer is yes, then do it! This is
why we revise, to make our paper sound even
better than our first draft.
3. Refine: The process of revision helps
to refine or improve your work. It makes
the paper more accurate.
Editing your
work means
you are
checking for
errors in
spelling and
grammar.
PEER EDITING
Using a three step strategy for peer editing can be a
great way to edit your work. Students should have a
classmate read over their essay’s for any errors they
may have missed themselves.
1.Compliment
2.Suggest
3.Corrections
Reading your work out loud
after the revising and editing
stage can help you to catch
any additional errors that
may have been missed
previously. It is best to take a
short break before reading
your piece.
