2. Netiquette on Social Media Sites When you accept friends on social sites, make sure you know them. Do not update your information every 30 minutes. Never use words that will offend others. Do not make fun of or bully others on the websites. If you upload pictures, make sure they are appropriate. Remember social sites are for you to share information and communicate with friends. It is not used vocalize negative thoughts or opinions.

3. Copyright and Fair Use Be careful when copying an image. Make sure that the image is free to public domain. Never download any graphics, software, music or movies without the artist’s permission. When you take words, music, or images without the person’s consent, it is stealing!!!! If you find work that is protected by copyright, then you will have to get permission or use the Law of Fair Use. Under the fair use rule of copyright law, you may use work without asking permission. Of course, it depends on the work and the intentions of the person “borrowing” the item.

4. Plagiarism Plagiarism is work that has been taken from someone else and is presented as your own work. Discuss what plagiarism is with your students! To help stop plagiarism you can discuss the writing process in detail. This will help your students become aware on how to create and accurate paper. If it continues to be a problem, there is computer software that you can purchase and your students will submit their paper through the website. It will automatically check for plagiarism.

5. Safety on the Internet Internet Safety Laws A federal law, the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), was created to help protect kids online. It's designed to keep anyone from obtaining a child's personal information without a parent knowing about it and agreeing to it first (www.kidshealth.org). A child’s best protection on the internet is from your safety tips and monitoring them while on-line. Many internet providers provide parent control options to block certain cites. Make sure to have your student’s computer monitors in eye view.

6. Safety on your Computer:Tips to Help Your Computer Use antivirus and spyware software. Use a firewall to help protect against unauthorized assess to your network. Be careful when opening your e-mail. Many times viruses are sent via e-mail. Be aware of internet scams!
