Conventional music album packaging called Digi-Paks contained lyrics, artist information, and photos. While they were once the primary way fans learned about artists, people now use the internet for information more. Some people still prefer owning physical copies of albums. The document discusses two examples of appealing Digi-Pak album designs: the minimalist, simple design of The XX album with just a logo and no text; and the distinctive, memorable design of SBTRKT's self-titled album reflecting its electronic music style with a unique masked logo and bold colors. The writer hopes to create similarly aesthetically pleasing album packaging.

2.  Conventional Digi-Paks often contain a
booklet inside, containing lyrics of the song
and information about the artist along with
pictures or possibly posters.
 Along with lyrics, some bands/artists explain
the meanings behind the songs so that fans
can relate to them.
 Digi-Paks used to be the prime way that
people found out about their favourite bands
and even though their is information in these
packs, people are far likely to use other
media forms for example the Internet.

3.  So, therefore, more focus has been on the lyrics.
 Audience's and fans often want to know the lyrics
so they can sing along to their favourite songs and
although they are available on the internet it is far
more personal in the booklet that is made.
 Digi-Paks are rarely seen in comparison to past
years and albums from artists as people are more
likely to download them rather than buy physical
forms.
 However, some people like myself prefer to buy
physical copies of albums and digitals so they can
collect them/keep them.

4.  The XX
 An example of a Digi-Pak is an album that I own
myself and find very aesthetically pleasing and I
would like to create something similar too this. The
XX are an Indie/Alternative band and this is
reflected in the album artwork which is very simple
but it is unique.
 No text is needed on the front and there is no band
name either as the bands logo is the main centre-
piece. This minimalistic approach has made it
easily recognisable and this approach is shared on
the inside as well.

5.  The inside reveals that the 'X' on the front cover isn't a
print, it is actually the print on the withdrawable lyric book
on the inside. The back of the Digi-Pak is a plain white
background with the song list written out in small font and
put to the side of the case which makes a very simple
cover.
 The cover may not look like much but it is very appealing
to the eye and this, along with the no identification other
than a letter, makes you want to know what it is.

6. I like this piece very much, but it doesn't
reflect the work of the artist that I hope to
make one for as I would like a very out-
there cover.

7. SBTRKT is the self titled album released
by Aaron Jerome under his Project called
SBTRKT, he uses it as an alter ego for his
music so that he can remain anonymous
as he'd rather 'let the music do the talking'.
The album is classified as 'post-dubstep,
indie pop + electronic' and the Digi-Paks
reflects this.

8. The pak is memorable and as you can see
it is very distinctive, it stands out from the
crowd because of the artwork used on the
front.

9. It works well because this is the bands
logo, (Aaron wears the mask when he
performs on stage) and is unlike anything
else on the market, the consumer if looking
for this particular album will be able to spot
it from a shelf in a store with ease, helping
SBTRKT, and the genre, stay distinctive.

10. Also the use of distinctive colours such as
the yellow, and the black against the white,
all adding to the uniqueness of this Digi-
Paks.

11.  All of the albums released by Aaron Jerom (Hold
On, SBTRKT and Wonder Where We Land)
follow similar suits to each other which lead to an
aesthetic appeal to the product which may entice
customers but most importantly it makes his
product memorable, something that Harry and I
hope to replicate.
