The document discusses lead users and the lead user innovation process. It defines lead users as individuals who face needs that will become general in the future and benefit from finding solutions. They experience needs months or years before the mainstream market. The lead user process involves identifying trends, exploring lead user needs and solutions, and refining concepts. Lead users can help identify future needs and develop solutions before mass adoption.

This presentation is about engaging mainstream users for OSS ecosystem sustainability. Open source is becoming mainstream but there are still looming uncertainties about the sustainability of its ecosystem made of some keystone projects and many SMEs. The user is the missing component of the OSS ecosystem’s sustainability. We must put the user back into the equation.
This presentation introduces the Market Readiness Levels index, the OW2 OSS Good Governance initiative and the ReachOut beta-testing platform. three initiatives leveraging the resources and experience of OW2’s European community of open source projects with the ambition to engage mainstream users and make them more comfortable and more committed to the long-term term sustainability and success of the European open source ecosystem.
Produsage and Beyond: Exploring the Pro-Am InterfaceAxel Bruns
Staff Seminar
Thursday 29 Oct., 2-4 p.m.
Seminar Room, Journalism & Media Research Centre, 1-3 Eurimbla St (corner High St), Randwick
The concept of produsage (Bruns 2008) describes the user-led collaborative approach to content creation which is prevalent in open source, citizen journalism, and the Wikipedia, as well as many other social media spaces. While many produsage projects have emerged initially to challenge dominant players in industry, their successful establishment as viable and sustainable alternatives also opens the door for an exploration of manageable cooperative arrangements between industry and community. Many challenges remain for such Pro-Am (Leadbeater & Miller 2004) models, however - not least an often deep-seated sense of mutual distrust -, and successful Pro-Am models may be most likely to succeed when sponsored by trusted third parties (public broadcasters, NGOs). This presentation explores pitfalls and possibilities in the Pro-Am space.
This slide deck was used at my presentation during PM Labs in Moscow on Nov 18th 2010.
The purpose of this session was to demonstrate best in class practices for IT product and service development. It showed tools and techniques that allow project and product managers to select most promising idea, develop, and successfully launch it in the market
Introduction to Implementing the Balanced Value Impact Model - Workshop for N...Simon Tanner
The Balanced Value Impact Model is intended to aid the thinking and decision making of those wishing to engage in Impact Assessment. It also acts as a guide through the process of Impact Assessment to enable the core values most appropriate to the assessment to be brought to the fore and given a balanced consideration when evaluating outcomes. It presumes that the assessment will be measuring change within an ecosystem for a digital resource.
For the purposes of this Model, the definition of Impact is: The measurable outcomes arising from the existence of a digital resource that demonstrate a change in the life or life opportunities of the community.
Who should use the BVI Model?
The aim of this workshop is to provide key information and a strong model for the following primary communities of use:
Memory institutions and cultural heritage organizations, such as libraries, museums and archives.
Funding bodies who wish to promote evidence-based impact assessment of activities they support.
Holders and custodians of special collections.
Managers, project managers and fundraisers who are seeking to justify further investment in digital resources.
Academics looking to establish digital projects and digital scholarship collaborations with collection owners.
Publishing, media and business sectors which may be considering the best means to measure the impact of their digital resources and are looking to collaborate and align with collection owners, with academia or with memory institutions.
Impact Assessment practitioners considering an Impact Assessment of a digital resource.
What the workshop will cover:
Where the value and impact can be found in digital resources,
Who are the beneficiaries gaining from the impact and value,
How to measure change and impact for digital resources,
How to do an Impact Assessment using the Balanced Value Impact Model, and
How to present a convincing evidence-based argument for digital resources?
The Workshop will include case studies of how the BVI Model is being implemented at present.
Dr. Isaksen and I collaborated to develop and present this study at the 10th Annual European Conference on Innovation in Copenhagen, Denemark in October 2008

Epistemic Interaction - tuning interfaces to provide information for AI supportAlan Dix
Paper presented at SYNERGY workshop at AVI 2024, Genoa, Italy. 3rd June 2024
https://alandix.com/academic/papers/synergy2024-epistemic/
As machine learning integrates deeper into human-computer interactions, the concept of epistemic interaction emerges, aiming to refine these interactions to enhance system adaptability. This approach encourages minor, intentional adjustments in user behaviour to enrich the data available for system learning. This paper introduces epistemic interaction within the context of human-system communication, illustrating how deliberate interaction design can improve system understanding and adaptation. Through concrete examples, we demonstrate the potential of epistemic interaction to significantly advance human-computer interaction by leveraging intuitive human communication strategies to inform system design and functionality, offering a novel pathway for enriching user-system engagements.
