Students will learn how an author's use of ethos, logos, and pathos affects their overall argument. The teacher will deliver a lecture on these rhetorical devices and provide supplemental materials. Students will then practice identifying these devices in small groups using short passages. For independent practice, students will read an essay and identify the rhetorical devices used. Their understanding will be assessed through an AP style essay analyzing the devices in an argument. Those struggling will receive remediation through pre-teaching or small group sessions.
